It was 41 years ago today
The Mets traded Seaver away
If that wasn't enough to make you sad
The Kingman trade was equally bad
So let me introduce the thread
In which we'll realize that the Mets are dead
Sgt. Mickey's Shitty Baseball Clan!

Every year, when I notice that it's June 15, my first thought is of Tom Seaver being traded to the Reds.

But then, a moment later, I recall it's also the day that Keith Hernandez came over from the Cardinals.

We're Sgt. Mickey's Shitty Baseball Team
It's hard to hit and field and throw
We're Sgt. Mickey's Shitty Baseball Team
We're old and we are white and slow!

Miserable day for the Mets!

Another thing that was odd about the old trade deadline was that you didn’t just have to get the deal done, but you had to get the player physically with the team by midnight. At least I think that was the case.

I'm embracing the west coast swing, it gives me more of a reason to miss 2/3 of these awful games, without feeling like I am forsaking the team or my fandom. I mean, I need SLEEP, I got stuff to do!

Gonna be hard to get this tune out of my head.

I'm trying to see progress.

Two weeks ago, it was, "Hey, the starting pitching has really stabilized, and the bullpen is, you know, less bleedy."

Last night, it was, "Look, they scored in multiple innings for the first time in living memory, and any good game for Rosario needs to be celebrated, because it could be a corner turned."

In two or three weeks, they might be ready to win a game or two.

Rosario and Conforto home runs are good signs! Gotta figure they string some of this stuff together soon.

Tired of the Seaverversary notes every year. As played out as the Bonilla and Seinfeld bits.

That's because you're too young to remember. June 15, 1977 was the Mets version of December 7, 1941.

Sure, but like, I'm not young at all. This is sorta my point.

If that's what you think, you don't get it one iota. Not one.

Well I don't really wanna jack the thread
But I still cannot believe I read
That Mickey sent the lineup wrong
Batting men where they didn't belong
From Gonzo to Blevins to Bruce
This group really knows how to lose!
Sgt. Mickey's Shitty Baseball Team!

Right there with you. This was traumatizing. The franchise icon ripped from the team for no reason other than spite and hubris from the management. It was betrayal.

What would you do if we bat out of turn?
Would you stand and turn off the TV?
We'll give you a start of 11 and one
Then we'll up and we'll lose 33
We'll lose ties and catch hell from the fans
Drop flies and catch hell from the fans
Pull thighs and catch hell from the fans

DO YOU NEED ANYBODY?!
We'll claim anyone with a glove
COULD IT BE ANYBODY?!
Just a bat and some spikes and a glove

Nothing to do save this game, call Robles in
Nothing to say but what's up Jay, how's your back been
Nothing to do we're totally screwed
I've got nothing to say but they can't play
Good God, Mets
Good God, Mets
Good God, Mets

Hard to puuuuut....runs on the board
Tough to win, when we can't score
Some guys too old, some guys too green

Our team's sinking like a leaky submarine
leaky submarine, leaky submarine

I read the news today, oh boy
About a fucking man who made a trade
And as I read it with my dad
I was a psychopa-a-ath
Ripped up the photogra-a-aph
