This "Dark Knight" shit has to stop. He was the worst pitcher in the league last year. Let's get his act together before we come up with a branding campaign. I expect a very good year from Harvey, FWIW, but this nonsense hype is undeserved.

disagree. baseball is fun. Obviously a guy has to be contributing to really be celebrated, but I don't need any of that "only the unmarred player can show emotion" nonsense.

I mean, you get this sorta silliness over crappy players plenty of times. Super Joe, Sal's Pals for crappy Sal Fasano spring to mind.

Hell, I hear in Japan they have all sorts of silly celebrations for basically every player. It's fun, it's a game, it's entertainment. Like it or not, everyone knows who The Dark Knight is and it will always be his nickname. Even if he sucks you can't erase the whole 'part of a World Series Mets team' and his great 2013. He's still a Met. I'm still gonna celebrate him.

And then there was the "Make this world a better place for John Pregenzer to pitch in" Fan Club which was started in Sf when he was put on waivers (which at that time was $100).

It would be wonderful if Matt Harvey developed some of that.

it absolutely wasn't.

It's not at all, but I'm kind of declaring this the first #BigGame of the season. With the Matz letdown yesterday, a resurgent Harvey getting us to 3-1 would seem to carry a lot of really good psychological juju for this club. OTOH, a disappointing start by Harv, a quick drop to .500 and Lugo vs the young, dumb Phils ace Aaron Nola tomorrow could set us on a week long, CAHN-fidence starved tailspin with the Nats coming up this weekend. I'd love to hit Washington at 4-2 (or 5-1!) and have the dudes just brimming entering the weekend series.

Cmon, dudes. Kick some ass today.

Ceetar is all about the absolutes.

I've never seen any similarity between Matt Harvey and Batman, and have no idea why that name caught on.

I do see how Noah Syndergaard can resemble Thor, but I've never embraced that nickname either. If I want to save on typing and refer to him with only four letters, I'll call him "Noah."

That being said, while these superhero nicknames make me roll my eyes, I don't get worked up over them. If some fans think they're fun, then let it be. Although there is an argument that they may be having a detrimental effect on the players. I don't know if I believe that, but I do acknowledge it's possible. If Syndergaard's nickname was "Synderella" instead of "Thor" would he have bulked up the way he did last year? Would he have missed all those games? Who knows?

I thought "Super Joe" came from the fact that he was like 99 for 100 off Randy Johnson with like 70 home runs. (I could be slightly off on the stats.)

Specifically he was 4/6 with 1 HR, 3 doubles, 2 sacrifices and 4 RBI in 2000.

for his career he was 11/44 with 1 HR, 5 doubles, 2 sacrifices and 4 RBI.

You'll notice how similar those counting stats are.

April sucks

Even though the snow stopped well in advance of scheduled first pitch, I applaud the postponement. An early April night at Citi Field is no joke. Plus Gary can give his full attention to the NCAA finals, which seems important to him.

That branding campaign ship took off years ago (the graphic done in 2015-I always look to re-use stuff that a lot of work went into), and at the start it was the best. And I most certainly would like to see him rise again. If he ends up sucking mooseb___s I will change my approach, but before he even takes the mound I have nothing but faith and confidence in him. I go with the positive outlook. That's just the way I roll.
