Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 Amed RosarioInjury/Malady: Knee irritationCurrent Activity: Pulled from gamePrognosis: Day to day.had an MRI that was clean.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 8, 2018 Author Posted March 8, 2018 There's reportedly some concern that neither Rosario nor Smith will be ready for opening day.It could be like 2010, when vets Mike Jacobs and Gary Matthews, Jr. appeared in the opening day lineup, but cleared out for younger players shortly after.I think Smith has already sunk to darkhorse status for opening day.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Yeah I don't like the smell of the Rosario injury. Already writing off Smith to start the year.Let's say Rosario misses 2-3 weeks out of the gate. Who's the starting SS? Guillorme? Reyes? Cabrera?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Yeah, probably. And he's hit well so far. But I'd like to see Guillorme, perhaps at second base.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Life is funny. Our young shortstop phenom can't stay on the field because of leg injuries. Good thing we have Jose Reyes.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Reyes at SS, Guilorme at 2B.Might be that way for some time. Its not like Rosario has looked all that terrific anyhow.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 8, 2018 Author Posted March 8, 2018 Unless something unexpected happens, the second baseman is going to be Cabrera.Guillorme hasn't even reached AAA yet.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 Someone sez Smith is now likely to start the year not ready for the major league roster, due to his quad. I think the writing's been on the wall for this since Yo Adrian got signed. He's got options and hit below the Mendoza line last year, they were jumping at any excuse to get him more "seasoning."
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Hey look: Here's another article about the Mets revamping their training and nutrition regimen.I have to say, good luck, but this is such a troubling pattern with them. Every few years (2005, 2010) they seem to admit they were half-assing it the year before and make a show of the new methods designed to prevent last year's calamities from happening this year. Remember when they adorned the clubhouse with the PREVENTON & RECOVERY signs? When their equipment staff was a pharmacy? When they screwed up Church's concussion treatment then made a gigantic show of how much they learned? They finally whacked Ramirez -- he was hired in 2005 after the Reyes-needs-to-learn-how-to run fiasco -- but still employ a controversial strength trainer.I feel like, baseball players guys are world-class athletes, and it ought to be an article of faith that the club is doing right by their training but it's always something. They seem incapable of balancing fitness and pushing-the-envelope training.Anyway, meet the new nutritionist: is a firefighter you might recognize from your paper towel packaging. Another high-profile Michigan person, making me think this is a Jeff-Barwis thing:rxK_6k84jcs
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 11, 2018 Author Posted March 11, 2018 Yeah, I'm sure there are new minds in the front office offering a wholistic and systemic approach, and that's great, but whacking Ramirez while (a) promoting his longtime assistant, and ( retaining Barwis did not fluff my cahnfidence.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 11, 2018 Author Posted March 11, 2018 I'm sure she's an impressive person, but I want our organization and our nation to get past the reality show culture where we believe that people who are good at promoting themselves should make for good administrators.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 The latest...Yo with a sore wrist he kept quiet for a few games, in keeping with Ray Ramirez's evergreen advice.Dom's quad not seeing game action yet.Anthony Swarzak is still a thing.David Wright fades further into the cornfield with shoulder and back issues. Refraining from baseball activities for eight weeks. Advised to turn in his revolver and take that desk job, but he still has criminals to nab.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Is there anyone who thinks Wright plays ever again? I'm not saying he should walk away or anything like that because he has a lot of money guaranteed to him and deserves to collect it but it would be nice of him the Mets and the insurance company could just figure stuff out without continuing the rehab charade and the use of a 40 man spot
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 I don't. I truly admire his tenacity, but I'd have to think the chances of him being able to play in a major league game are awfully slim.

Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 these things always seem to sort themselves out (usually due to injury). That's why i'm never concerned about having "too many starters". A surplus is rarely a problem; most often, its the lack from which a team will suffer.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 Vargas' salary wouldn't pay for even one Arrieta. Arrieta is making $25 million this year from the Phillies.
