From SNY. We do seem to have a surplus of middle infielders: While no deal is considered close at this time, Rosenthal notes that the Mets would appear to have the edge in the sweepstakes due to the surplus of young talent they could offer, and the White Sox looking for big-league-ready hitters in exchange. With Chicago's farm system lacking up-the-middle talent, youngsters such as Luisangel Acuna, Jett Williams, Drew Gilbert, Brett Baty, and Ronny Mauricio could potentially be of interest. Crochet certainly would cost the Mets a pretty penny in any deal, but adding a young and controllable talent -- under team control for the next two seasons -- would certainly be an excellent way for David Stearns to round out a starting rotation that's still missing the top-of-the-line arm needed.
