  1. He's a free agent after the season. We'd have to give up some decent prospects to get him. But we do seem to have a glut of infield prospects.
  2. This is what happens when I obsessively check the MLB alerts that pop up on my phone. MLB, by the way, puts out a lot of crappy alerts. Stuff like, "Squad up! Here's a team made up of the best player at each position entering the 2025 season." I wish the app had a setting where I could select "actual news" and not "Offseason filler copy."
  3. Former Met Max Scherzer signs a one-year, $15.5 million deal with the Jays, per MLB.com reports. Not confirmed by the team.
  4. The two posts ahead of yours.
  5. The Mets might have told Pete, "Go out and get the best deal you can, then bring it back to us." Other teams might think that and not want to get used. In the absence of other offers, he might just need to take what the Mets are offering.
  6. You guys proved his point.
  7. I didn't think we parted on the best of terms.
  8. What would be Pete's role with the Blue Jays? Vlady has first base, unless there is a plan to trade him. Santander seems like a DH type unless they are going to throw him in the outfield.
  9. That design is on the road batting practice caps, too!
  10. I don't hate that as long as it is in addition to, and not replacing, the gray version.
  11. That’s gotta help Andruw Jones and Beltran!
  12. Supposedly the Mets have checked in on Guerrero. The Jays need to decide whether they will build around him and sign to a long-term deal, or watch him walk after the season. Story said Mets could offer a nice prospect package to the Jays. He's just 25. I'd want to trade then extend rather than watch him walk. But who knows? Might be a reason they are in no rush to sign Pete.
  13. Duquette should know that it's tough to wait for a guy like Sterns to become available, hire him because he's super smart and trust him to do what's best for the team, then overrule him because one player stubbornly refuses to read the market. Looks like the Astros have moved away from Bregman and the Orioles from Santander, so it's not like Pete's the only one waiting things out.
  14. These two are punks and I have no problem banning them. But how is that enforced? What's to stop them from showing up at Wrigley or something for a random Cubs game?
  15. Danny Abriano of SNY weighs in on who might next have their number retired at Citi Field on No. 5 takes its rightful place. https://sny.tv/articles/two-more-mets-number-retirement-david-wrighthttps://sny.tv/articles/two-more-mets-number-retirement-david-wright
  16. As much as I would love to have this wrapped up yesterday, spring training doesn’t even start for six weeks. Pete’s earned the right to try and get the best deal he can for what he thinks his talents are worth. He also has an agent who has demonstrated patience with signing contracts - thought that seemed to backfire for four of them last year. If Pete thinks his talents are worth X dollars over X years, I don’t have a problem with him trying to get that. And as much as I love Pete and want him back, if the Mets brass feels it can’t wait any more and need to move on, I respect that, too.

  18. Saw a report that the Mets are offering a three-year, $90 million deal with a player opt out after each year. Same report says Boras is asking for $200 million.
  19. Fascinating! Thanks, Edgy!
  20. Frayed Knot wrote: =batmagadanleadoff post_id=181608 time=1734895492 user_id=68] He was named after Rickey Nelson. The fact that he played for nine different clubs, including the Yanquis twice, the Padres twice, and Oakland four times ... kind of made him a Travelin' Man, didn't it?
  21. I think he was born on Christmas. I remember reading a story where he was being interviewed about Billy Martin and got very emotional when talking about him passing away and how much he meant to him and his career. Way too young.
  22. The Cohen tongue bath is tough to take. This guy racked up more terrible hires in the first couple of years than most teams do in a decade. Nevermind that he looked at all the terrible Wilpon hires, the abusers, and was like "LET'S BRING THOSE GUYS BACK". Then he followed up that "culture change" by chasing after Trevor Bauer, acquired Brooks Raley, etc. What's wrong with Brooks Raley in terms of culture issues? It takes time to build a culture and develop a new staff. You can't fire everyone on Day One. Certainly took him a little time get up and running in the right direction, but it seems to have stabilized.
  23. Got it: Lenny DiNardo.
  24. I remember the Mets lost a Rule 5 pitcher to the Red Sox a while back and the Sox kept him on the IL most of the season claiming he had “blisters” and the Mets started beefing about it. Can't for the life of me remember the players name - which means he must not have panned out.
