  2. Good for him! I'm pulling for him!
  3. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/xVwAAOSwd6pghzRG/s-l1600.jpg> A thing of beauty. Apparently trading cards are hot again. Local retailers have been limiting the days cards are available and limiting purchases, even selling them from behind the electronics counter. I was in one store on the allowed day, and was pleased to see boxes of Topps' Opening Day set, and some of the Heritage packs, were on the shelves. There was also a case of boxes of some basketball cards just put on the shelf. I don't care about basketball cards at all. But some guy sees this, pushes his cart up against the shelf, reaches in with both hands and tries to scoop them all into his cart, then grabs all the cello packs. Keep in mind, the boxes were $26 each. There must have been 15 or 20 of them. Who has that kind of money? Another guy came up and asked if he was buying all of them, and the hoarder let the other guy have a couple of the cello packs. Incredible. A store employee came by after the hoarder left, and another guy asked about the limits. He said the cashiers are afraid to confront people who are breaking the rules, and the cards would probably be going back to behind the electronics desk next time they came in. I enjoy the cards and like putting together sets. But the hoarders and speculators take some of the fun out of it.
  4. Looks fantastic. I love the orange! Thank you very much for all you do!
  5. "Quietly"--were they supposed to call a press conference? Maybe they'd cry on camera? A tweet with Sad Mr. Met? Hell of a job, BVW! Good call. I suspect we've seen the last of Mr. Betances.
  6. I had no idea what to expect from Stroman this year. But he's been awesome. A walk year is a good thing for him!
  7. Good for Matz! I hope he wins the AL Cy Young -- especially if he can rough up the Yankees along the way.
  8. I like saying NcNeil drives home two!
  9. I've always thought Carter's value to the Mets was greater than his stats. Just like Casey Stengel, who presumably had his number retired for reasons other than his won-loss percentage. I'd like to see Carter's number retired. I also think it's a little late. Honoring the 1986 team has always been a little complicated. Here's a nice story about Carter: https://metsmerizedonline.com/2021/04/gary-carter-sometimes-there-is-crying-in-baseball.html/https://metsmerizedonline.com/2021/04/gary-carter-sometimes-there-is-crying-in-baseball.html/
  10. I guess Jeter doesn't make the umpires better. Later The truth is that if Jeter did what Conforto did, he'd be praised for "doing whatever it takes to win." Remember when he pretended to get hit when the ball actually hit the bat, but rolled around in agony to get the walk? What knucklehead reporter asked if there was anything that could be done to "make it right" for the Marlins?

  12. Cool point made in the booth -- deGrom is the first Mets pitcher to get the team's first hit on Opening Day. And he might be the only one ever if the league goes to the DH next year,
  13. Missed a chance to give Jake a nice, early lead.
  14. Odd column by Davidoff, who I just can't figure out: Poor start won't stop Braves from winning World Series Is there anyone out there really saying that the Braves are toast because of an 0-3 start? https://nypost.com/2021/04/05/poor-start-wont-stop-braves-from-winning-world-series/https://nypost.com/2021/04/05/poor-start-wont-stop-braves-from-winning-world-series/
  15. The guys are looking a little rusty -- but that play by Lindor was sweet!
  16. Why would any team want this All-Star Game, having been pulled from another team with few of the benefits that go with hosting a game? It might have been a better solution to have the Braves keep the game, but allow or even encourage, the players to wear some kind of personal statement on their jerseys. Why would another team want to host a future game, knowing it takes at least a year of preparation and could be pulled away at nearly the last minute for reasons that have nothing to do with the team?
