  1. As he ages and, presumably, he starts to slow down a little, deGrom is worth more to the Mets than another team. Then again, Frank Cashen thought that about Seaver in 1984, too. (And deGrom is actually getting better as he gets older.) Sandy and Cohen said they weren't going to spend like drunken sailors on free agents older than 30. But I would not be shocked by an over-payment to deGrom to recognize he was underpaid beforehand and to keep him a Met through the end of his career -- which I'd love! The problem is each contract sets the standard for the next, hence Lindor's $341 million after Tatis' $340 million.

But because there are going to be a lot of doubleheaders, that's not at all likely to happen. Maybe he'll have 18? In that case, he currently projects to 174 innings, 15-6 record, 24 walks and 279 strikeouts. Oh, and an 0.62 ERA. I know it's tough for a pitcher to win MVP. But if he had those numbers, and -- fingers crossed -- the Mets win the division, you can make a strong case for deGrom.
  3. =bmfc1 post_id=67112 time=1623022329 user_id=73] Helluva win. Have a safe flight to Charm City, boys. Get some crab cakes for dinner and then win the two games.
  4. Looks like such a nice stadium. Would love to see a game there.
  5. If only Williams had been able to hang on to that ball... so close.
  6. I bet they were still using linotype machines at that time. Tough to make changes on the fly with those machines!
  7. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I like Fammy but he rarely strikes guys out anymore He heard you. I confess I thought for sure the guy on second with no outs was coming in.
  8. Need a closer in there! Familia, from when he was good.
  9. Am I the only one who enjoys keeping score at games? I've been to three games in Florida this week, and two of the parks did not sell programs and scorecards. I almost felt a little lost. I like keeping track of who is in the game and what they are doing. I know it's all available online, but it's a fun thing to do. For instance, I had to wait until after the game to learn St. Lucie walked 15 batters in the game. I knew they had a bunch, but it's fun to keep track of that as it's happening. I asked staff at both ballparks where the programs were being sold. Most acted as if I was the first to ask. One in each park said they stopped selling them due to COVID. Not sure why programs spread COVID and caps don't. Maybe scorecards are one of those things never to come back, like media in the clubhouses.
  10. We need Marshmallowmilkshake to provide an update! https://twitter.com/timbhealey/status/1397322585055105024 https://twitter.com/SteveGelbs/status/1397334565472161802 Not good. Got slower as inning progressed. BTW, St.Lucie is horribly run. No programs or scoreboard. None of the people working here knows anything about anything - “Beats me. I just watch the elevator.” Gift store doesn't have the passport stamp. The renovations are nice.
  11. We are headed to St Lucie to see Thor pitching tonight.
  12. https://www.tcdb.com/Images/Cards/Baseball/125/125-54086RepFr.jpg> I always thought his card was one of the best-looking in the set. Better if he had not been wearing just an ugly uniform.
  13. Edgy MD wrote: Terrific thread, guys. Marshmallowmilkshake, don't leave the park. Just find a nice dark corner to crash in. Or, better yet, break into Jeter's box. Freaking Jeter sucked the color out of that park! Heading back to Jupiter. Planning to see St Lucie Mets on Tuesday!
  14. Come on. Just one more. Long drive back home.

  16. Marlins have used a different pitcher each inning so far.
  17. Marlins don't sell programs, scorecards or a yearbook. Freaking Jeter.
