  3. Chipper Jones, with 998 of those rbi coming against the Mets.
  4. Sandy issued a statement saying the gesture is unacceptable and he will be addressing it with the players.
  5. Jerry Koosman as a Met on cardboard https://www.tcdb.com/List.cfm/lid/10202/New-York-Mets-Hall-of-Fame-Honorees-Jerry-Koosmanhttps://www.tcdb.com/List.cfm/lid/10202/New-York-Mets-Hall-of-Fame-Honorees-Jerry-Koosman Good find! I like how the 1970, 1973 and 1974 have virtually the same pose, but definitely taken at different times and places.
  6. Lindor swinging at pitches at his ankles.
  7. The damn Nationals aren't even trying to win, and we still can't beat them.
  8. I don't think Sandy's going anywhere, and I don't think he should have to. I think the same about Rojas. It's not Zack Scott's fault you can't remember his name. There are some years where you are just killed by by injuries. It wasn't just that the front-line guys were lost, it was all the depth behind them -- Lucchesi Yamomoto -- also got hurt. Is there anyone who hasn't been on the IL this season? Dom, maybe? You can predict that some of these guys are going to get hurt. Heck, they couldn't even hold on to the depth signings because they kept getting claimed off waivers. But you can't predict they all would get hurt. Just like you can predict that some of them might have an off year, but you can't predict they all would have off years. I don't want to let Conforto walk away and have him get his head back on straight and become a monster player for another team. We know how good Syndergaard is when he is going well. The Shea Anything podcast made it seem like everyone is getting tired of McNeil's inability to control his temper so I wouldn't be surprised if he is part of a trade package.
  9. Yogi wasn't lying! It ain't over till it's over!
  10. Shane Green is a punk. Hit two of our guys in a row!
  11. I have every Topps base set from 1970 to present, and I think the end of the Topps run will be the last set collected for me. I have a company in Iowa that mails me Mets team sets, and I'll keep that up. But no more set building. Honestly, I think Topps has become lazy in recent years with the base set. Seem like a slight variation of the same bland design for the last five years. And the company issues way too many sets and variations of the same sets.

  13. The most-watched regular season game in 16 years!
  14. My wife noted that when Anderson's blast sailed into the corn, Yankee-loving Verducci's tears must have fallen like soft rain.
  15. Redemption is certainly a theme, but not just for Joe and the Kinsellas. One of my favorite parts of the movie was when Archie Graham first sees the field, is excited by seeing the players and calls out three players by name: Smoky Joe Wood, Mel Ott, and Gil Hodges. One player who had his career -- and life -- change dramatically because of a slip on wet grass and two who were lost far, far too young. Any day Gil is recalled with such reverence is a good day in my book. I also love that the obit they read in the Chisholm newspaper office is Graham's actual obit. They took some artistic license with his playing -- he played in the minors a bit before hanging them up -- and fudged the year of his death, but the details in the obit are accurate. "And there were times when children could not afford eyeglasses or milk or clothing. Yet no child was ever denied these essentials because in the background there was always Dr. Graham. Without any fanfare or publicity, the glasses or the milk or the ticket to the ballgame found their way into the child's pocket."
  16. OK, NOW it's heaven! Thank you, Tim Anderson, American hero.
  17. Trying to think of other potential places for such a baseball game in the US. They've already played in Williamsport and Fort Bragg. I know there was the exhibition game on Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, but ever a game that counted? Maybe Omaha, where the College World Series is played every year? Maybe a really cool minor-league stadium? A game in Alaska where the Goldpanners play, or in Hawaii?
  18. I'm liking this game more and more. 7-3 Sox!!
  19. MLB messes up a lot of stuff, but they are doing a good job with the Field of Dreams game -- choice of visiting team not withstanding. I thought they did a good job with the Williamsport game, too. I've been to the field -- the set, not this new field -- and it was really neat. We have a nice family photo in the field with the corn and white house in the background.

  21. You have data showing a Major League umpire is making calls based on a pitcher's skin color? https://twitter.com/HSnowdon5/status/1424817013000654849 I don't see anything in there particular to Barber.
  22. =Ceetar post_id=74199 time=1628784869 user_id=102] =Ceetar post_id=74193 time=1628774424 user_id=102] wonder which home plate umpire we get for Stroman.
  23. How come this is a suspended game? I always thought that if the rains came prior to the finish of the fifth inning it was considered a rain out, the stats were wiped out, and the game rescheduled and started fresh. Was there a rule change on this?
