Sometimes, I think I'm thinking about John Sterling, but I'm actually thinking about Michael Kay. I conflate. But when I think, what I think is that it's a ridiculously bad situation that this staggeringly successful franchise has not only employed such poor broadcasters, but they've allowed them to stick around and become insinuated into the Yankee brand, so everybody has to pretend these guys are real assets to the brand when they aren't, and generations don't realize that they're playing out "The Emporer's New Clothes" on a nightly basis, and things don't have to stink this much. Making a change would be the organization admitting that they've been feeding folks garbage all these years. So instead, they keep feeding it, thinking maybe they can try to council these guys into retirement some day, but knowing that if they even try, some columnist would get wind of it and whip up a woefully misinformed fan rebellion. The same thing happened with Rizzuto for two-plus generations. Folks were convinced they were lucky to have him when they in fact deserved far better. Was it Kay or Sterling who was featured in Fman's KTEs with Suzyn Waldman? Which one does the horrible "It's high, it's far ..... it's caught by the second baseman" call?
