  1. August 1. Look at him like trade deadline help for the rotation.
  2. Assuming they are joking about the No. 1 choice, and the No. 2 is their real No. 1?
  3. That is so cool! Have fun! I'm going to see them the day before in Miami!
  4. Padres extend him for 11 years, $350 million. https://nypost.com/2023/02/26/manny-machado-signs-350-million-contract-extension-with-padres/https://nypost.com/2023/02/26/manny-machado-signs-350-million-contract-extension-with-padres/
  5. Buster Olney had some podcast guest making some interesting points about some of the changes. Alex Anthopoulos of the Braves was saying that in those long extra-inning games, relievers would be asked to pitcher more innings that usual, meaning they would be unable for several games after that. He said teams would need to option players to the minors right after that or even DFA them so they could get fresh arms up for the next few games. Another guest, I think it was Karl Ravitch, noted that when the rules about barreling over the catcher and shortstop came out there was similar outrage and people got over it pretty quickly. I think many of the speed-of-game rules are different than the safety rules, so I don't think he's quite on the mark on this one.
  6. That's an awesome story!
  7. Very distinctive voice and delivery. You always knew it was him.
  8. Benjamin Grimm wrote: If the people that the author is quoting are actually saying the word "shitshow" then it would be misleading to swap that for some other term. "s---show" seems like the best alternative to me. Then use the word.
  9. I've never understood the use of something like "S---." If you are going to use the word, then use the word. What are you protecting me from of you use the three dashes? If the publication has a prohibition against using profanity, the write around it. Call it a dumpster fire or something else along those lines. I don't understand the point of easing rule changes in gradually. Of course there will be a period of adjustment. But teams had the pitch clock in their minor league systems this past year and surely had to have been planning for adjustments. It's not like everyone didn't know this was coming.
  10. I disagree with the selection -- but the photo of the reception desk is well worth it. Trying to figure out the elements. Who is that sleeping on the floor?
  11. If there is a balanced schedule, is there any real reason to blow up the leagues and have the location based clusters? If the biggest reason to do this is to eliminate extensive travel, but the Mets will be playing the Mariners as often as they play the Red Sox or Phillies, then what is the benefit?
  12. I actually got blocked from Wikipedia two weeks ago -- for deleting long outdated an inaccurate information about my employer and replacing it with updated and accurate information. A seemingly self-appointed Wikipedia cop/troll accused me and a team member of being "sock puppets" and deleted all that we added, then reported us to the Wikipedia brass, such as it is, which then blocked us from posting on the page. Apparently you don't want people who actually know things about topics posting about it. I looked on the troll's "talk" page and it looks like he spends his days attacking people who post, especially about education. We'll wait a month, create new accounts, then add the right info a little at a time.

  14. Sounds like someone in the Mets office listened to the excellent episode of the National League Town podcast that suggested Mets who should be enshrined. I thought the team would hold off on Gary and Howie until they retired. Nice to see them get recognition.
  15. Mike Puma, when he wants to, can turn a phrase. Carlos Correa opted for the Land of 10,000 Lakes over Flushing Bay, leaving the Mets' lineup without a big winter splash. But general manager Billy Eppler doesn't necessarily share his boss' view that another hitter was needed this offseason.
  16. Well, if losing Steven Matz sparked Cohen to go out and sign Max, imagine what losing Correa will prompt him to do?
  17. Filling the speedy outfielder role this year is Tim Locastro, formerly of some team on the other side of town. With the rule changes, this might be helpful. But with a .188 stick, he's not going to get on base much by himself. https://nypost.com/2023/01/09/mets-sign-speedy-outfielder-tim-locastro-away-from-yankees/https://nypost.com/2023/01/09/mets-sign-speedy-outfielder-tim-locastro-away-from-yankees/
  18. =MFS62 post_id=116243 time=1673026972 user_id=60] =metsmarathon post_id=116242 time=1673025765 user_id=83] looks like boras isn't the only one who can play this game.
  19. Pete's cover is a strong contender to go all the way!
  20. Might be the first time a Kiss song has been used as a Mets tabloid headline!
  21. I like Ace Bandage, which perfectly describes Tylor stepping up to take that Opener!
  22. I found his Wikipedia interesting, especially the personal part https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Barretthttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Barrett Barrett is also heavily involved with Christian ministry, and has earned a master's degree in Biblical Studies from Trinity College and Seminary. In 2013, he earned a doctorate in theology, with an emphasis in Pastoral Ministry, from Trinity; his dissertation was "An Investigation of Faith As a Life Principle in the Lives of Major League Umpires".[11] This is really neat!
  23. The HOF Ballot Tracker is wonderful if you care about these things -- and I do -- because you can see the trends developing. One of the ESPN people, I think Olney, was lamenting the tracker because he said takes the surprise out of announcement day. I can live with that. Buster missing the point that having discussions about baseball's best players throughout December and January and not just one day is actually a good thing. The downside is that you get to see some of these ballots and it drives you crazy. Steve Wine, a recently retired, Miami-based AP writer, cast just one vote, for Carlos Beltran. At least he made a good choice. Because Philadelphia-based AP writer Dan Gelston also voted for just one player, only his was Jimmy Rollins, who polishes an MVP Awards that should rightfully have David Wright's name on it. And Boston-area sports editor Art Davidson, too, voted just once, and for K-Rod. Another Boston guy, Jimmy Golen, voted for three players - Andruw Jones, Gary Sheffield and Billy Wagner. And New Hampshire guy Alan Greenwood voted for just two, ARod and Manny Ramirez. So did the Post's Mark Hale. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette columnist Ron Cook didn't think anyone was worthy, turning in a blank ballot, and apparently hasn't filled one out in years because he can't support modern players. https://omny.fm/shows/starkey-mueller/ron-cook-hasnt-filled-in-his-mlb-hall-of-fame-ballhttps://omny.fm/shows/starkey-mueller/ron-cook-hasnt-filled-in-his-mlb-hall-of-fame-ball Maybe that outs him as the one guy who didn't vote for Jeter. I predict no one gets elected this year. Fred McGriff goes in all alone.
