  3. I didn't like the "Know your place, rook" sign he put on Lastings Milledge's locker. A better leader would have tried to sit down with the young player and try to help him adjust, and help the team overall. Instead he came off as a red-assed, cranky old timer. But on the mound he got the job done and probably will get in the Hall of Fame.
  4. https://twitter.com/WFAN660/status/1605624231366381568 Cry more The owner of the New York Yankees complaining about another team spending money is funny. Considering he has spent in the neighborhood of $1 billion on Cole, Judge and Rodon in the last couple seasons and his ballpark is called a "mallpark" for sticking it to the fans. More effective would be to ask the teams who think they have no chance -- or refuse to invest in their product -- why that is the case. Does the luxury tax Cohen will pay get distributed to the teams that don't spend?

  6. I heard this on the radio while driving in to work and couldn't believe it! What was the medical issue that scared the Giants - and why doesn't it scare us?
  7. The ChiSox reliever is allegedly a trade target. https://nypost.com/2022/12/20/mets-interested-in-white-sox-all-star-closer-liam-hendriks/https://nypost.com/2022/12/20/mets-interested-in-white-sox-all-star-closer-liam-hendriks/ After the Otto and Robertson deals, this seems redundant. The story doesn't say who the Sox might want in return, but I would not want to see Baty or Vientos or Cookie go out for him.
  8. Gotta go with something in the 40s!
  9. Per SNY: Senga will become the 14th Japanese-born player to appear in at least one game for the Mets, the most by any major league team. I would never have guessed that the Mets have had more Japanese-born players than any other team.
  10. I saw this box of the new Topps Stadium Club issue in the store with Pete wearing No. 44. I know that's not his number. Was bugging me all day. But when I saw a photo of the box online and had more time to study it, it looks like he's wearing a belt from the All-Star Game. Then I saw he's not wearing a batting helmet, so it must be from the Home Run Derby. Was that the game that was intended to be the tribute to Hank Aaron, and did all players in the derby wear 44? https://fanatics.frgimages.com/mlb-merchandise/2022-topps-stadium-club-factory-sealed-8-pack-retail-box_pi4647000_ff_4647817-90d5c68f14796ce55ba5_full.jpg?_hv=2&w=900>
  11. I think agents are going to leak that the Mets are interested to drive up prices whether the Mets are interested or not.
  12. =roger_that post_id=114676 time=1670940931 user_id=128] Are we moving (we = baseball, not Mets or CPF) in the direction of teams having higher turnover of starting pitchers, so that every team will experience 70 or 80% turnover every year or two? When we will be literally able to ID team/years by who the starting pitchers were? In other words, am I overreacting to the Mets' sudden high turnover rate? Am I glorifying the stability of my youth, when the Mets' starters of Craig/Jackson/Willey/Fisher/Cisco seemed to last forever, but in reality had the same turnover rate of later Mets/ teams? Is this reality or just a fantasy?
  13. He was on the hill when I made my pilgrimage to Citi Firld this year. Marlins win that night, but it was great to be at Citi and see him. I wish him well in Toronto.
  14. Good point about the scouting reports. One thing I found interesting is the booth said one night that while Nimmo has decent speed, he doesn't steal many bases. The thought is that he worries about getting hurt.
  15. =vtmet7 post_id=114545 time=1670796463 user_id=80] I guess that I don't understand the drama but... how much of this thread is actually about Nimmo?

  17. Would Ottovino be too expensive at this point?
  18. I can't put a finger on why, but the Lindor photo for some reason looks like something from an early 1970s yearbook. Maybe just the way the uniform looks in that light.
  19. He's pointing to the heavens tonight! Great news!!

I can't imagine they'll get much back for him. Probably just prospects to save some money and clear a roster spot for Baty or Vientos. I get that JD needed the change of scenery, but would love to have been able to hold on to some of the pitchers we gave up in that deal.
  21. Makes me wonder if they think they won't have a shot at keeping Soto when his contract is up. They already have a crazy long-term deal for Tatis, and a 10-year, $300 million deal for Manny Machado. Soto is going to command something like 14 years and $400 million+, right?
