  1. Will be tough to beat Carroll, but a nice tip of the cap to Senga! https://www.mlb.com/mets/news/kodai-senga-named-finalist-for-2023-nl-rookie-of-the-year-awardhttps://www.mlb.com/mets/news/kodai-senga-named-finalist-for-2023-nl-rookie-of-the-year-award

It's a factual question, and not particularly concerned with how much you care or don't care about it. I find it very odd, damned peculiar in fact, that the Mets have hired so many former Yankees managers, coaches, players to manage their team over the decades, especially considering the animosity that has consistently existed between the teams' fans. It's almost an admission of the Mets' inferiority to the Yankees, a confession that they would, to paraphrase Willie Randolph, like to export the Yankees' winning ways to their sad losing franchise. Just as a matter of policy, I'd rather they had far fewer ex-Yankees managing the Mets rather than far more than you might expect. Have the Yankees ever hired a former Mets' manager, coach, or player to manage their team? Probably once or twice, which would merely be what the odds would dictate, given the number of major league teams. I'd prefer a policy that promotes former Mets, and former ex-other MLB teams, before hiring so extensively managers with a Yankee pedigree. Maybe that's just me. Joe Torre. Started his managerial career with the Mets, then lowered his standards.
  3. Pretty good week until Max screwed it up! "This much" is a classic!
  4. The Cubs' statement doesn't make a lot of sense. If all this is true .... then why did they fire him? I know they have to say nice things. But usually you throw a line in there with "we needed to go in a different direction.." or something. Here is the full statement from Cubs President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer: “Today we made the difficult decision to dismiss David Ross as our Major League manager. On behalf of the Cubs organization, we express our deep gratitude for David's contributions to our club, both on and off the field. First as a player and then as a manager, David continually showcased his ability to lead. David's legacy will be felt in Chicago for generations and his impact to our organization will stack up with the legends that came before him.”
  5. I like to lean positive! I was at the Senga game in Miami, so those are special to me!
  6. It's the CUBS -- who I guess are firing David Ross? https://sny.tv/articles/mets-not-hiring-craig-counsellhttps://sny.tv/articles/mets-not-hiring-craig-counsell
  7. =MFS62 post_id=140581 time=1699296162 user_id=60] From the same place we got Showalter (after a few stops)and Randolph. Because of that winning tradition I guess. If you can make it there You can make it anywhere It's up to you New York New York Later
  8. For some reason I thought Cahna was a free agent at the end of the season. Why did we deal him if we still had a year? Detroit pizza is *OK.* We are all spoiled be New York pizza.
  9. =G-Fafif post_id=140401 time=1698948382 user_id=55] Former Mets farmhand and no longer on-the-hook Rangers right fielder Nelson Cruz has announced his retirement.

Oh well, doesn't look like AZ had much fight left Not sure about that one. Zack Gallen took a no-hitter into the seventh, and it was 1-0 heading into the ninth inning. The wheels came off in the ninth with a costly error and a homer off Sewald.
  11. Congrats, Rangers. Jake and Max get rings.
  12. And the Rangers score two on an error, then a two-run blast off Seward.
  13. There goes the no-hitter, the shutout, the lead and maybe the series.
  14. I love the $162 Million Smile" cover, which brought a smile to my face today. I also like how Verlander's upraised arms play into the Plan V cover. Many wonderful ones to choose from today!
  15. I met Frank Howard, and he was so nice. The local minor league team is a Tigers affiliate and it brings former Tigers in, usually with a bobble head and autograph night. The bobblehead is really cool, but I wanted Frank to sign my Mets book. I asked him how he liked coaching with the Mets, and he looked up and said, "Best years of my life!" By contrast, Richie Hebner said, "Hated it." He looked a little frail. Usually the former Tiger throws out the ceremonial first pitch. Howard went out to the mound with a kid and had the kid throw it. I work with some of the people in the front office, and they said Howard was extraordinarily gracious the whole night.

  17. Taijuan Walker unhappy about not pitching an inning in the playoffs. https://nypost.com/2023/10/25/sports/taijuan-walker-shreds-phillies-after-being-ignored-in-playoffs/https://nypost.com/2023/10/25/sports/taijuan-walker-shreds-phillies-after-being-ignored-in-playoffs/

  19. Russo's agent likely reminded him that he has a contract…..
  20. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I'm officially rooting against Craig Counsell. I just don't see the argument for it Do you have a favorite? I'm OK with Counsell if that's who Stearns best thinks will get us across the line. Seeing reports that Buck is the favorite to land the Angels job.
  21. I confess I did not see this one coming!
