  3. Bump.
  4. Gary said in the post game that Pedro is not hurt.
  5. That's a ballsy umpire.
  6. Galvine in the thread title. For posterity and all.
  7. The way Hampton started the year, Smoltz, Hampton, and Hudson is a pretty nasty top of the rotation. That's still my main problem with last year's Benson/Zambrano trades. If you don't believe in Kazmir, he could've been the main piece in a deal for Hudson or Mulder this past offseason.
  8. To clarify, what I meant was that 33 seven game World Series have gone the distance, while none of the nine game ones did.____________________________This post was made under the posting designation 200) Larry Elliot

  10. 33 World Series have gone 7 games (no series ever ended 5-4). That's more than I expected.____________________________This post was made under the posting designation 200) Larry Elliot

  12. Edgy DC wrote:It's become a truism that catcher is the most physically demanding position. But that's only because we tacitly agree to leave out the pitcher. Even after a century of protecting the pitcher by dividing up his workload (the top catchers catch 75-85% of their teams innings, while few pitchers pitch more than 18% of their team's innings), I'd bet there are more sugeries per capita, and more career ending injuries per capita, in the pitching fraternity than among catchers.True. But, the pitching fraternity is also a lot larger too. I'm not sure how that would affect the statistics, and whether it supports or takes away from your argument.
  13. 1.4 million to a 16-year old. One of the things that doesn't show up in the payroll disparity yet further keeps down the Pittsburghs of baseball. Just like the Yank fans did with Soriano, the denser Met fans will praise their scouts and homegrown talent without mentioning (or even realizing) that he essentially was signed as a free agent and several other teams noticed him but were simply outbid.
  14. Who was/is The Crimson Chin?
  15. ]Give any manager in baseball a choice between Mark Mulder and Brian Fuentes. I'd rather see Tom Glavine or Greg Maddux. With your life on the line, you would rather depend on Maddux, right? I agree 100 percent. The only way a closer should make an all-star team is if he's having in the midst of a 60+ saves converted streak. That way he can give up the winning run in the ninth.
  16. Spacemans Bong wrote:Guess he's let up. Which makes me wonder what he does now anyway, as he continues to bat a .278 OBP at the top of the order. FFS.That's the last thing to be concerned about, esp considering Jose has done more than his share tearing up the basepaths and taking walks the past couple of days. Can we lay off Willie? Can any of this game really be considered his fault?
  17. I think it's also because every single radio call-in person and every single media member went on and on about how important it was that the Mets spent the big money on the biggest stud in the free agent market. Now they have to give him time before they take back what they said.Actually that's probably not true, because most of such morons can say one thing and something completely the opposite in the next breath without realizing it.
  18. ScarletKnight41 wrote:They're not established enough to talk trash. And they've never had a particular rivalry with the Mets.I'm fine with them being excited about having a team after a 35 year absence - go to town. But the should do it by cheering on their own team, not trash talking about mine.Fuck 'em!I see your point. But I've also seen people (not necessarily you, CookieMom) grumping that they go nuts at every little thing. I see all of this: the trash-talk, the t-shirts, and the cheering a 2-out single when down 8-1 as exuberance at having baseball in town. Considering how many people don't like baseball, I see this as a good thing.
  19. Love the afternoon win, but hate no night game on a weeknight. Let's play two.
  20. I've seen a lot of angry posts because of those T-shirts. Doesn't really bother me that much. They're excited to have a team is all. They're not allowed to be overly excited about having a team after a few decades? Saying that they can't have t-shirts because they just got a team smacks of Yanqui fans telling Red Sock fans that they only have 18 more championships to catch up.
  21. Rotblatt wrote:So here's the question: is this the beginning of the end for the Nationals, the beginning of the Mets' resurgance, both, or neither? Perhaps I'll start a poll . . .They're still not hitting. Take away Piazza's three hits and Beltran's two hits and they don't score today.
  22. Yancy Street Gang wrote:Officially, that would be a 6-2-9-2-6 double play. I don't think so, I think Gameday got it wrong. Didn't Floyd make the last out at the plate? I think it was Guillen straight to the catcher on the fly, to Carroll, back home.
  23. Edgy DC wrote:Gameday says:Top 11TH B:1 S:0 O:3Mike Piazza singles on a fly ball to right fielder Jose Guillen. Carlos Beltran scores. Double play, shortstop Jamey Carroll to catcher Brian Schneider to right fielder Jose Guillen to catcher Brian Schneider to shortstop Jamey Carroll. Cliff Floyd out at home. Mike Piazza out at 2nd.Huh? Wow!Piazza is always hitting into those 9-2-6-2 DPs.On edit 2: And after 10 posts (3010 for the books) I'm still David Wright? It's cool to be in the levels where you get to be someone for more than 10 posts.
