Unless they take Kaz back in the trade, I don't see how this works. We could just stick Kaz on the bench I guess. I'd rather buy a thumping first baseman in the offseason.
I've said it before, I'll say it again. If Piazza can be signed cheaply, he should be brought back and stuck behind the plate for next year. He'll hit average for a catcher, and we can put him at seventh in the lineup. I know the main argument against this "B-b-b-but, he's an awful catcher. EVERYONE steals bases off of him! Why don't we sign a guy to bat seventh who is a better defensive catcher?" I guess that's a valid argument, but I am the charter member of TORVO (Throwing Out Runners is Vastly Overrated). I think throwing out runners is the last thing on a baseball diamond that a team should be worried about. But that's me. And Piazza does the rest of the defensive stuff well.Of course, it's easier to make this post the day after Piazza doubles, homers, and drives in three.

Get tossed! Get fired up!Did anyone see this? The ump gave the ball to Willie, apparently for the old shoe polish evidence, and then the cameras caught Willie back in the dugout, looking over the ball and then looking out into the field. The look on his face was hysterical.
Spacemans Bong wrote:But his in-game tactics drive me nuts. Please, please, stop leading off with Reyes. It kills the team to have a .280 OBP leading off. Yes, he's talented, but bat him 8th. He's 21, he'll handle it.Who would you rather bat first? Let the kid hit there until there is a viable alternative. This is a .500 team which will only be in the playoffs through an incredible hot streak. It doesn't matter if he learns to take pitches in the eighth hole or the leadoff spot. And believe it or not, right now, he gives us the best chance to win when he hits leadoff because of his speed, regardless of how low his OBP is.
The Nats just gave the Rockies their first road series victory of the season, and Livan is upset, though apparently no one knows why.[url]http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=250720120"I'm not happy for three years. After the season, I'm going to tell you" why, said Hernandez, 12-4 with a 3.44 ERA and the unquestioned staff ace."It's 99.9 percent I'm not going to pitch no more" this season, he said. "I'm done, I think, so let's see what happens. ... I'll go to sleep and I'm going to make a decision tonight."
What exactly would we do with Matsui? Replace Floyd next year? An OF is not something we need, I'd rather have the Yanquis prospects, or another teams' prospects if the Yankees' prospects suck.

He hustles, he knows how to run the bases, he's cheap, and he can play the infield. That's four strikes against him on this screwed up club.Oh, yeah, and he led the Mets in Runs Scored and RBIs two years ago. Six strikes.IMHO, this is silly. Ty would be a great player for Norfolk, there is no use for him on the Mets now.
]Michael Kay, the Yankees play-by-play announcer, is one of the most outspoken on the subject. He's even gone so far as to question the accuracy of some of baseball's all-time records, noting that one or two undeserved hits could make significant impacts. Not surprising that Kay thinks he knows more than someone else.
I remember that, vaguely. I think they paid him to select their hat for his plaque in the HOF, which led to baseball deciding to not leave the choice up to the player anymore.
