  4. ]In Adam Rubin's article in the Daily News this morning, he mentions that Cliff Floyd is speculating that he might be dealt by July 31 to make room for Lastings. Could happen. I hope it doesn't. We don't NEED to make room for Lastings for this year. We really, really, don't. And having Floyd around for the stretch run and any possible playoff series is a good thing. The only way this makes sense is if we get a #2 or better starter in the deal. And I don't see a team that is willing to give up a #2 or better starter wanting to take on Floyd.

  6. The only team in the AL West with a record over .500....Texas. What a strange world we live in.
  7. Just finished the most recent book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin. Pretty good stuff. I still think I like the The Wheel of Time series better.
  8. KC wrote: What sucks about it? I want this stuff to come to a head and exposed and dealt with and removed from the game like the boil on it's ass it's been. The part that sucks is that the boil exists at all.
  9. Milledge's double was all about his hustle out of the box and Gonzalez's throwing arm. Actually Gonzo made a pretty good throw.
  10. Basically this sucks.
  11. Chavez batting before Milledge? Must be because of the RHP?
  12. What the...
  13. Thanks. I still like the sound of it.
  14. The first few times I heard that guy I thought it acutally was Sterling. Like the guy who does Letterman for Howard Stern's show.
  15. It's less dickheaded with the second part attached.
  16. Maybe this was already mentioned, but to expand upon FK's remark: ]NEW YORK -- The First-Year Player Draft began at 1 p.m. ET on Tuesday. The Mets, first-round wallflowers, made the 62nd selection after 2 p.m. By 3:30 p.m., a 21-year-old right-handed pitcher from Villanova University was at a Modell's not far from his home in the Paulin section of Sayreville, N.J., buying Mets gear -- caps and T-shirts -- and thinking "Mets, Mets, Mets." The pitcher is Kevin Mulvey, who had some allegiance to the Mets before they used the 62nd choice to select him Tuesday. His allegiance seemed a tad stronger after the pick and the purchases. "Thank God I'm a Met," he said. If he wore a poker face, it wasn't evident by telephone. "I'm ecstatic," he said. "This up there, a 10 out of 10."
  17. ]Asked before the Philly series whether Valverde or Julio would be used in save situations, Bob Melvin said "When the [bullpen] gate opens, you'll see." Just seems like a dickheaded thing to say.
  18. Thanks. Double digits would be nice. Edit: So, technically, everyone's magic number on Opening Day is 163?
  19. Heard an interesting theory on Monday before the game. The Mets have the west coast trip, 3 games in Philly, a 7-game homestand including 4 with the red hot Reds, and then Interleague away games in Toronto, Boston, and the Bronx. 26 games total. The theory I heard was that if the Mets go 13-13 (or better) then they will be in great position to win the division in a walk. 13-13 would put them at 46-35 at the exact halfway mark of the year. The theory did not say that they couldn't win the division if they went under .500 in that stretch, and it wasn't that it would be extremely difficult if they went under .500. The theory was just: Go 13-13, and the playoffs will come easily.
  20. What's the quick and easy way to calculate magic number?
  21. Just do a recap of last year's four game series in Arizona.
