  1. Also, Gary Cohen says "Koonz". I figure he's got better info on the matter then I do.
  2. Scoreless inning with the big club last night! I couldn't be prouder.
  3. Saith John Sickels in his recent review of his Mets prospect rankings from last season: 6) Eddie Kunz, RHP, Grade B 3.00 ERA with 38/23 K/BB in 45 innings for Binghamton, 26 saves. Strong ground ball ratio, looks like he should be ready to help in the pen soon. Good stuff. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2008/7/29/581798/top-20-new-york-mets-prosp (Also, I've been pronouncing his name like buns, but I can't seem to find a definitive ruling on the matter.)
  4. I'm Giuseppe Franco'd out. Ask me again in a few months. Incidentally, I think Giuseppe says, "I don't own anything about it."
  5. I read somewhere back in spring training or something (very specific source, I know) that "strain" is MLB euphemism for "tear." IIRC, this was specifically in a hamstring context. I can't decide whether I'm terrified or if I just don't have a point here.

'Teenage Dirtbag' takes me back to a special time. So does 'Bitchin' Camaro,' actually. Different special times, though. Who knew how influential the Camaro had been on my special times?
  7. Looks like the blue might be Pantone 288, though that's from by no means as definitive a source.
  8. I have it on good authority that the orange is Pantone 1655 C (same as the Orioles, incidentally). Not sure about the blue.
  9. Article in the post has my boy's name being kicked around as a possible call-up if the big club needs a bullpen arm. http://www.nypost.com/seven/07152008/sports/mets/amazin_plans_120019.htm
  10. Recap for those of us whose workplaces don't accommodate streaming audio?
  11. I went with Modest Disapproval. Nieto didn't do anything wrong that I saw/heard about. They could have thrown Oberkfell someone else's bone.
  12. Strong Approval. 'Approval Like a Motherfucker' wasn't one of the options.
  13. I went with indifference because I've never been sure how much I think all but the very best pitching coaches matter. I do like his glasses, though. It occurs to me that some lucky team could now hire Peterson and Buck Showalter and start an all jacket-wearing coaching staff. Best if it were someplace really hot and/or humid. Houston, maybe?
  14. Modest approval at the time. I'm drifting toward strong approval.
  15. Eddie didn't exactly take professional baseball by storm last season, posting a 6.75 ERA in 12.0 IP at Brooklyn. As a sports parent, I feel secure calling that statistically insignificant sample size. He did whiff 9 batters in those same 12 innings, which ain't bad. Also, his OSU Beavers won back-to-back College World Series. This year at Bingo, he's got 15 saves with a less-ugly 4.13 ERA and a more-ugly 1.59 WHIP. I vaguely recall an article about Billy Wagner taking him under his wing at spring training, but I can't find it. I wonder just how many wings my boy can fit under at once. I reckon he's likely to get slightly more mileage out of Billy's than mine, though, if it comes down to one wing at a time.
  16. I've been meaning to do this for a while. Today seems like a good day. Eddie's from Oregon, I'm from Oregon. Now we both live on the east coast and pull for the Mets. We're practically the same guy, if you factor out age, salary, and physical fitness. So I'll take him under my wing.
  17. .383 Looks like for his career, he's actually a better hitter post-ASB. Better than this, though? I think not.
  18. Pelfrey 4 Beltran 2.5 Wagner 2 Tatis 1 Sanchez .5
  19. Maybe they didn't understand that metal bat companies are continually testing and upgrading their alloys and the shapes of their bats to create a bigger and much more powerful sweet spot than a wooden bat could ever dream of having. Metal bats today aren't like the metal bats of the '90s, which weren't like the metal bats of the '80s, which weren't like the metal bats of the '70s. Far from stupid, this was pretty much inevitable. Really, everyone in the bat industry knew this was coming sooner or later. I think most of them figured it would be a dead college kid, though.
  20. Santana 3 Wright 1.5 Church 1 Reyes 1 Schneider 1 Beltran 1 Wagner 1 Delgado .5
  21. I guess my last post wasn't really a contribution at all. Bunting a runner over is essentially conceding an out. Maybe not every single time, but most of the time. I hate conceding outs; you only get 27 of them for the whole game. Unless you have a crystal ball or the world's groundballiest hitter at the plate, I can't imagine why you don't roll the dice. I think bunting falls victim to confirmation bias: any time a team bunts the runner over and that runner scores, they get the idea that it's because they didn't ground into a DP, whereas any time they ground into a DP, they could have avoided that fate by bunting the runner over.
  22. Oh hi. I didn't see you there. I'm NASCAR non-legend Greg Biffle, and I'd like to talk to you about bunting. It's for losers. Remember: BIFL
  23. Pelfrey 6 Wise 2.5 Castillo 1.5
  24. Wasn't Grady Little a pitching coach?
