  3. Aaaaand the freefall has begun. It was a good run.
  4. Even recognizing that this is a good kind of problem to have, I am completely baffled about what to do with my team. I've been in first place for so long that I'm terrified to make any moves, but also terrified that I'm going to end up losing because I rested on my laurels as of mid-June. I don't usually find non-money leagues this stressful.
  5. 1. CPF NL-only. 13 teams, no $ 2. An ESPN league I just joined this year with an old friend and a bunch of his coworkers. 10 teams, no $ 3. A a low-ante Yahoo league I have run for my wife, her brothers and a few friends since 2005 or so. 12 teams $25 4. A really weird H2H league on RotoWire. I'm not actually sure how I got in on this one--some local attorneys have been running it since 2003 or so. This will be my second year. I got off to a great start last year, but nosedived out of the money in August and September. 14 teams, $200, 26-man rosters, auction draft, 9 x 9 stats (HR, RBI, BB, R, Avg, H, SB-CS, K,TB+W+HBP x W, IP, K, L, BB, WHIP, ERA, OPPBA, 2x(Saves-Blown Saves)+Holds) If last year is any indication, the latter ends up being the most stress and the most fun. I have noticed that I tend to do worse in H2H than in roto, though. Maybe it's just not my game.
  6. It certainly wasn't me. Though I did manage to poach Livan Hernandez. He's still alive, right?
  7. Yeah, Broxton single-handedly killed me in 2 leagues. At least the CPF league didn't cost me $200.
  8. Last year was my first time doing NL-only, but IIRC, Yahoo defaulted to letting you keep the guy if he's already on your team, but you can't trade him or pick him back up if you drop him.
  9. Fman99 wrote: I am in... really, you can do an NL only league with as few as 8 owners but 10-12 works best. I can set up a league at Yahoo if anyone else wants in. Thoughts? I'll play. The one I ran last year won't be back--not enough time with the baby here--so I'm glad someone else feels like having it!
  10. I finished the season 10-4, had won 9 straight, and got bounced in the first round of the playoffs, thanks to a stinker from Tony Romo & Percy Harvin's migraine. I proceeded to dominate the consolation bracket, so I guess I'm king of the losers.
  11. Thought I had a shot at second there, but the wheels are coming off.
  12. I am stinking up all 3 leagues that I play in. The H2H league (i.e. my least favorite) is the least depressing; I'm just barely under .500 there. This is my worst fantasy season ever. In one league, my brother-in-law asked me to draft his team so he wouldn't get stuck w/ autodraft. Now he's in dead last. It's a whole season of FAIL.
  13. Trade him. You'll get something for him. Think of some players you do want, and start offering Chipper in trade. Someone will bite.
  14. Did I mention I'm loving Pelfrey this year? I was so pumped when I got him, but now I'm worried that if he gets hurt or starts to suck, I'm going to be double disappointed.
  15. I made a few frustrating mistakes (which I always do), but my team's not horrible: 1. (9) Carlos Beltrn OF 2. (16) Carlos Lee OF 3. (33) Chipper Jones 3B 4. (40) Joey Votto 1B 5. (57) Ryan Doumit C 6. (64) Ricky Nolasco SP 7. (81) Jorge Cant 1B,3B 8. (88) Rickie Weeks 2B 9. (105) Yunel Escobar SS 10. (112) Jair Jurrjens SP 11. (129) Jonathan Snchez SP 12. (136) Mike Pelfrey SP 13. (153) J.J. Putz RP 14. (160) Brian Giles OF 15. (177) Jon Rauch RP 16. (184) Seth Smith OF 17. (201) Eric Hinske 1B,OF 18. (208) Jeff Baker 1B,2B,3B 19. (225) Jeff Keppinger 3B,SS 20. (232) Merkin Valdez RP 21. (249) Scott Olsen SP 22. (256) Barry Zito SP 23. (273) Pedro Feliz 3B 24. (280) Shawn Hill SP 25. (297) Mark Loretta 2B,3B I definitely wanted a couple more power/speed guys to go with Beltran, but this isn't a terrible start. Also: Shawn Hill signed with the Padres and not the Blue Jays. That should work out for me until his arm falls off again.
  16. Turned up to 11! Thanks for the assist, Fman99.
  17. Fman99 wrote: You should autodraft and rejoin. Just sayin' we could use ya. Motion seconded. Anyway, the draft is coming up and we still only have 7 teams. the yahoo league ID # is 75076 and the password is tator. Join if you're interested; it'll be fun. Did I mention prizes?
  18. Fman99 wrote: I will post the link on the boards for the other leagues I am in. The prizes should serve as incentive to join (it worked for me). Great idea. Thanks!
  19. We could still use more managers. I really don't want to open this league up to the hordes at yahoo, but I just don't have enough teams yet.
  20. I created an NL-only league for another web forum I'm on. Last year, they had one official 12-team mixed roto league and I was one of many who was bummed to miss out on it. This year, I made an NL-only league and coordinated with the commish of last year's mixed league to make the announcement, and only a few people signed up for my NL league. I'd like to have 12 teams, so if anyone here is up for it, you're welcome to sign up. In keeping with the example set by the commish of the mixed league, I'll pony up for 2 $25 Amazon gift certificates: one for the winner, one for most improved after the All-Star Break. tl;dr - NL only league with prizes. You in? Send me a private message if you're interested.
  21. So there I just hurt myself.
  22. I'm already excited for a new season of fantasy baseball. I keep hearing people talking about switching to ESPN fantasy from Yahoo. I haven't ever played on ESPN, but I moved my friends and family league there this year (largely because I could do it right now and I'm not a patient man). Has anyone actually played on both? Is ESPN really better? Why or why not?
