  2. cooby wrote: Was that really him? (Steve Zabriskie) Hope so... I have a question for him. J/K!!!! Ill behave.
  3. .....i expected some basklash on sticking the Shea apple out in the playground area so kids can climb on it. And when someone hits a homer (they cant see the game from back there) it pops up and all the kids go flying.
  4. OlerudOwned wrote: http://www.andrewclem.com/Baseball/index.shtml thanks OO. Im bookmarkin that. *Z goes to see if theres a section for imaginary stadiums
  5. I really thought this was gonna be about the current Frank Thomas, or I would have left my card earlier. I think that pic was lifted right off his Topps card cuz I couldnt find a decent color one.
  6. yep,..the chapter on Piazza is officially over. I will miss him,...he did us good. Like you KC, I was quietly hoping for him to hang around and PH and catch everyonce in awhile. It would be unfair tho, I suppose, if an AL team is willing to use him for DH. Bye Mike, thanks for the MetMemories.
  7. OlerudOwned wrote: The LoDuca and Estrada trades really threw a wrench in the market for Hernandez and Molina, making it easier for a team like Baltimore to step up and get him cheaper. This is a huge factor, as well as the draft pick. Im okay with this. Hernandez would not have become this cheap if the Mets were still in the market for him. He goes to the AL,..I like that. Im still happy with Lo Duca for 2 years.
  8. G-Fafif wrote: ="Zvon"]Pete Rose wore one in the '73 playoffs. Between then and Olerud Id never seen it done. Reggie Jackson wore one for the top of the ninth of the final game of the '77 World Series to protect him against his own loving fans. there ya go,....i think i vaguely remember that.
  9. metirish wrote: Clems work, does he have a website? I assume he does. Ask spaceman. Im curious as well.
  10. Elster88 wrote: So when does baseball start? This seems like one year baseball never stopped. Maybe this place has something to do with that.
  11. I said the 2nd darkest day on this card, but in retrospect, as time passes, it more than likely is the darkest day. I just remember how crushed I was when Hodges died and that holds over. That was such a shock to me. The Mets losing Seaver was definitetly a bigger loss as far as team history goes. The only time I turned my back on the Mets in any way, for any period of time:
  12. Valadius wrote: It's also the 64th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Its nice to hear from a younger person who remembers this. To most kids your age its only the day Dimebag Darryl died. Im proud to know you, Valadius. (this is all serious above^)
  13. metirish wrote: Any link to help us? ....link to what?
  14. Im sure the outfield fence demensions arent accurate to scale, but I was more concerned with using numbers more significant to us Met fans. The 329 down the RF line does not apply to that effort.
  15. Scrapple8 wrote: ..... and I saw, for the first time, a player play the field with a batting helmet. Pete Rose wore one in the '73 playoffs. Between then and Olerud Id never seen it done. Olerud, of course, had the plate in his skull. Rose almost got a bottle in his skull.
  16. Yancy Street Gang wrote: You miss my point, Zvon. Eating Pop Tarts every morning doesn't make you smarter, it just makes it easy to remember what you had for breakfast, because it's always the same thing. LMAO..... point taken.
  17. sharpie wrote: According to USA Today they didn't like his defense and want to get Torii Hunter or Joey Gathraight. Torii Hunter! Best fielding centerfielder in the game right now. Love watchin that guy roam center. Decent hitter. Just coming off a broken ankle tho...
  18. Im REALLY surprised the Skanks did not go for this guy. Whats their problem this off season? Both Philly and NY papers have said they are interested in the Phils outfielder Jason Michaels. But Pierre is one a those guys that makes things happen. Guess I should be glad the MFYs are looking like a deer caught in the headlights these days.
  19. Edgy DC wrote: Fregosi doesn't sound any assier than most old guys would be surrounded by young punk partycrashers while they're trying to crack their Budweiser. lol. Ive seen enough of Fregosi Sr thru the yrs to confirm the fact that he's a dick and it runs in his genes.
  20. MFS62 wrote: ="Zvon"] fascinating info MFS62. Seriously. Your knowledge runs deep. And then there are times I can't remember what I had for breakfast. I hear ya. I love pop tarts, grew up on em, but they never helped me in the brains department. Well, maybe the ones with frosting did a lil.
  21. I read this story last night and it was a lil scary. But its just a cute lil well written story to me. Ive seen way to many over rated rookies to worry about what the future holds before hand. Id just as soon let Minaya do his job the way he see's fit for his 1st 3 years here before making a report card or throwing around negative comments. I support my team as much as I possibly can. Now if he traded away Reyes or Wright today, Id go off this afternoon. But so far so very good. I did read he had Grady Sizemore up north and practically gave him away. Its possible he simply didnt think the Expos had a future, which they didnt, but more so it shows me he's not perfect or infallable. Who is? Wish he threw Grady our way for the price that kid plays for. I probly gave this card out before but sometimes you get doubles.
  22. MFS62 wrote: Edgy, Despite some of the negative things that may have been said about Weiss, he did make some good decisions about young talent. When the Mets were formed, the First Year Rule was in effect. It required all bonus baby players signed the previous year to be added to the 40 man roster or be available for drafting by other clubs. (You couldn't keep them in the minors for three years before you added them) One of the players had to be retained on the 25 man roster all season, and only one could be optioned out for more seasoning. The Mets had signed six players who had qualified under this rule. Weiss decided to keep Kevin Collins and option out Cleon Jones. The names of the other four are lost in obscurity, because they never amounted to much (IIRC). Later fascinating info MFS62. Seriously. Your knowledge runs deep.
  23. Im almost done should have it up soon. what do u guys wanna name this stadium? I can think of afew possiblities, but im sure the actual name will involve money more than Met history.
  24. Elster88 wrote: ="Zvon"]I looked around for a thread for this, didnt see one. Look harder. Like in the the thread labelled "OFF SEASON SIGNINGS" sorry... figured this would merit a thread itself. Didnt look there. This is kinda Met news as well as signing news, since there was talk of re-aquiring him this off season.
  25. ScarletKnight41 wrote: LOL - it sounds like quite a night! It was quite a time, yes. But I checked the yr. I went to the series in 93. The All Star game was 96. My memory isnt the best about some things. It wasnt a party in the sense it may sound. It was a set up they had in the Vet after the game for VIPs and such. It was actually in a walled off section behind the centerfield seats. They had make shift walls cordoned off entrances. We were on our way out when we saw it and figured why not try and get in there. I guess its not fair to call Fregosi SR a total ass, cuz he wasnt there long and didnt say much. Just seemed like he thought he was above it all. His son was a total ass. And his son was sloshed, not Sr. I couldnt even remember which of my brothers made it in with me, cuz one never got in and waited outside (we were only there for probly an hour, maybe less). But I called the right one. lol
