People in cat costumes named Casey, Felix, Terrific and Mookie. Terrific would be a Tom cat. Wilpon would probably veto "Giant cats," insisting on the Dodger breed. Homer the Beagle, Leo the Black Cat, Mettle the Mule and, if only they had resigned his namesake, Marlon the Byrd. Love it! I think this is an excellent concept. So there are people out there that can think them up. Problem is they don't work for the Mets.
  2. Hint: Four of these Mets already appeared in this thread. Extreme left (standing) Don Shaw throws a hard high one and chooses this V-neck, raglan sleeve pullover knitted completely in ribbed stitch. The yarn is knitted worsted. Extreme left (sitting) Sandy Alomar goes deep in the hole to field this Danish pullover with a patterned yoke. Stitch is stockinette; yarn is a mixture of wool and vinyon. I wish I had enough style and/or knowledge to keep that going, but I don't. I can add that next from the left is Harvey Haddix, whose taste in sweaters is as ugly as his mug.
  3. Francona? That's one I didn't see coming.

  5. Actually, when you think about it, he did do good. 16 mill. 2 yrs? That's pretty damn good in his position. He worked hard for that contract. Now relax and have a shitty year Mr Byrd. At least against the Mets.
  6. Gah. I want Byrd to do well but on the Phillies? You've alienated me Marlon. Have an awful year.
  7. Was waiting for word on this. Good choices. I thought Puig would get a few more votes. Wow, 4 Marlins have won this award now.
  8. I'm not totally against the thought of camo. There are some kool camo patterns out there. This isn't one of them. This looks like puke. Does look good on Jay though.
  9. metsguyinmichigan wrote: I don't have a problem with them, and I think it's nice that the team is doing something nice for the military. Now, what name is that on the back of that jersey? We can see the stitching through the collar. That doesn't say "Hodges." Yes. Hodges W/a "Y".

For a few steps, McCann was obstructing Fernandez's path back to the Marlins dugout. It was hyper-aggressive. It was but it was all mouth. McCann was not going to touch him. No-one was. Even Johnson ran up and got directly behind the ump. It's all bullshit from that point on. A non dooshyballed catcher would have found a way to say what he had to say to Fernandez without detaining him, but it's McCann. I guess it takes a full sentence for him to call someone bush. There was no obstruction. There was a clear path to the dugout. Fernandez could have kept going. He stopped to respond. He didn't have to.
  11. Could be worse. http://gamedayr.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/west-virginia-camo-baseball-uniforms.jpg But those are awful. Another jersey to sell but who on earth is gonna buy one of those?
  12. Did Johnson come out of the box slow, like he hit it out? I don't understand his involvement. All he did was fly out. What a doosh. Fernandez was a bit dooshy in an immature way early on, but he answered back the best way possible, with his bat. Slightly immature doosh with a flair for the dramatic. I feel he did deserve to be allowed the look. McCann is a doosh with big balls. I like that he said something. He rep's his team. It should've, could've stopped there. Probably would have if Johnson didn't run up like he was ready to rumble. Really, what a doosh. DING! Johnson wins.
  13. MFS62 wrote: There have been several stories about the Mets trying to obtain Tulowitzki and/ or Gonzales from the Rockies. But why not Cuddyer? He's 33,on the last year (or two) of his contract, and a right handed power hitter who has also played first base. Oh, and one more thing. He and David Wright are long time friends. (Read that's why David added him to the NL team for the Home Run Derby) Of all the "short term" players they might go after, Michael might be the only one who they could entice into staying after his current contract expires. With Helton retiring, wouldn't the Rockies need a first baseman(IKE)? If a deal is being discussed for Tulo, why not broaden the scope? Later I like Cuddyer too. If they were to get him then they can get all kinds of creative with some of the spare parts around first base.
  14. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: And at those prices... let's not talk about Curtis Granderson. Ha. And it's not that I wouldn't like him on the team. Its just we all know the Mets won't be able to afford him. What's to talk about?
  15. ooo, 90m is crazy. I'd like Choo but not at that price. Whats he 32?
  16. For the 1970 cards I tried to imagine what a Topps special card design would look like. In other years they had those cards with two or more players posing together with a "typical Topps title" ( I have this photo and I'd really like to use it for a special card but I can't think of a cute "typical Topps title". Anyone have any ideas? Edge, you have a knack for this and Rubes your main man. Anything come to mind? I'm also not too thrilled with my design and if anyone has any suggestions there I'd appreciate it. I figured they would have used the same font as player names but that just don't look kool for some reason.
  17. If they go for him I hope they are clear on what his role is to be. For right field, sure, if he can still play outfield. If they want him for first base this will be a very interesting off season.
  18. Pinstripes gotta be made of glittery gold dust.
  19. OOO, I like Anna's new look. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/anna-benson-sentenced-attack-husband-article-1.1507610

I don't think I've ever approached a Met baseball season convinced that they would run in place all season long, but that's how I'm feeling about 2014. But it is baseball. 21. Like most, as a back-up, fine. Next season is T's last chance in my book. Give him the time to win or lose that position. Q is fine only if his offensive drop off is picked up by others and that's a lot of hopin and prayin there. But that's all I do anyway with the Mets last few. Hope and pray.
  22. Always liked Bronson and he'd fit in with the upcoming filler year fine.
  23. My response from 2009 is still the same, cept I wouldn't bother with the Phils. GO PIRATES! I re-read that old response and damn, I really did type in verse. It looks like song lyrics. I should put that to music.
  24. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: That's a great profile of Jeff. I think he probably deserves his rep as a snot and probably like his dad has screwed up stuff he was trying to fix but I really don't think he's the same kind of incompetent boob his better-mannered Dad is, always putting personal favors, questionable style tastes, a thirst for thrift, etc ahead of what any idiot could see was best for the team and its fans.
