  1. We needed a guy who could eat innings. 2 yrs, booooo. But he definitely can surprise me and impress me and make me think more highly of 40 yr old fat pitchers in the future if he wishes. Byrd kinda did that for me with old short fat players. Is part of being busted for drugs in baseball then require the player to be tested regularly?

And as usual (quicker games, expanded replay) instead of figuring out what to do and then announcing it, MLB oddly decides to do things the other way around. I'd be in favor of a simple rule where a catcher allowing the runner an unimpeded path to the plate is off-limits to be hit while one who chooses to stand in the way without the ball is both subject to obstruction rules and liable to be run over by a large man with a head of steam behind him. This way it would be up to the individual catchers and teams to decide how they want to play it. I'm not totally sure why the league figures that they have to protect the players from themselves. I could get with this^. No contact at the plate if a guy is standing in front of the plate is ridiculous. Forcing a player to slide in that situation is, also ridiculous, possibly dangerous in its own way. Hey, its a game where the goal is to keep the other team off the plate. People get hurt. Careers sometimes get affected or shortened. They get payed well to take these kinds of chances.
  3. Reading Angell is like getting comfy warm by a fireplace on a chilly day.
  4. The whole thing did stink and, like you say, EVERYONE knew unseating Reyes at short was stupid. Its on my top 10 stupid things the Mets have ever done.
  5. Well, then, here's something to fuel your palpitations. Somehow looks photoshopped. ha. It does. Or thats a felt hat or something. I wasn't sure if felt was the right word. I had never spelt felt in terms of this meaning before. Looked it up: 1.a nonwoven fabric of wool, fur, or hair, matted together by heat, moisture, and great pressure. 2.any article made of this material, as a hat.
  6. Reports say he will wear number 3. Thatll take some getting used to. K, Im used to it
  7. G-Fafif wrote: Not missing Turner. Missing classy organizational instincts. "We thought we could upgrade" would've sufficed from One Met Official. exactly. Who freakin' asked? I guess Rubin did but who freakin cares? I'm a Turner fan and I didn't question the move. Maybe I would when I see the bench at the start of next season but I haven't even given it a second thought since it happened. I was surprised but I figured they got something in the works to cover his role. Sheesh. I never saw Turner dragging his feet. Why even go there? I saw other Mets loafing in that way but not Redbeard.
  8. Per Rubin: Colon went 18-6 with a 2.65 ERA in 30 starts for the Oakland Athletics last season. I had no idea that he did that. Still, depending on pitchers over 40 to produce similar results again is tough to do. ditto. He's an innings eater but he retains all those innings he eats.
  9. My feelings are not listed. Like and confused until things shake out a bit further. If the shake out involves Murphy being gone I'll be changing that, possibly to something unprintable.
  10. I'm figurin' it out. Uh-oh. http://metsmerizedonline.com/2013/12/sounds-like-daniel-murphy-is-a-goner.html But that's just more shitstirrin isnt it? Maybe we'll trade him, maybe we won't. EYjr isnt necessarily a back-up...Come on. Tell us something we don't know. I'll be upset if they move Muff. Lil bit.
  11. I imagine there are full articles or more info somewhere but I can figure it out. 2nd time ever on Twitter. I wanted to see if it would be worth following "live". I guess if it was big news it would have been. More tid bits: >Alderson doesnt necessarily view Eric Young Jr. as a backup >Mets could leave the Winter Meetings without a new shortstop I think I'll go back to the old fashioned way and read about this in tomorrows paper.
  12. Looks like just some chatter. But something was said. And sure, we could start the season that way. That would be interesting. I love this maybe we will, maybe we won't stuff. Great fodder for us fans.
  13. Are these generated from a program or do you do them manually?
  14. Ashie62 wrote: Star Ledger...maybe a one year incentive laden signing of Johan Santana.. I'd like this.
  15. Gotta wait til 6? Where are the unnamed sources and weak leaks when you want em?
  16. Not official yet, but what the heck... A "signed" card! Most awesome
  17. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Looks like someone clued them in. They've repaired the online version, (the 14 was in the print edition) and removed the 4. So if he comes in and hits like 75 kabooms or we win the division 3 times in a row the newspaper could become a collectors item? Right? Lemme know before recycling on Monday.
  18. I picked love it. Whether it works out for better or worse, the Mets did something dramatic and positive. If Grandy goes baywise I will not hold it against Sandy and the team. I can't fault them for taking their chances on this one. Esp with the way the player market has been. This was a good deal.
  19. Holy crapoli things are shakin' out. I can't believe the deal Cano got. Insane.
  20. yawoot! This is a well done good deal. This is a nice splash! Bravo Sandyman!
  21. Kong76 wrote: The Ellsbury signing is downright funny. What do they do, print the money underneath the stadium? One of my first thoughts was Hughs and he have to be laughing. I'm not defending this "Met sticker shock" business, they should be prepared for what's in the wind $$ wise. But I have to say I am in shock myself over what these guys are getting. It's pretty crazy.
  22. This is why I come here first for my Met news. I experienced a mili-second of excitement.
  23. Oh joy, we are going to look at someone. I guess no actual moves until we see if that salmon was worth the price.
  24. Good for Justin. Maybe he'll get the at bats somewhere else. I'll miss the guy. I thought he was more than adequate as a filler-guy in the infield. Considering we got him on a waiver claim he served us well. Hef is just a wise move.
