  2. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Are there any strong rookies in the NL this year? Or do deGrom and perhaps, d'Arnaud, have a legitimate shot? I think d'Arnaud needs to get his batting average up above .250, which won't be easy at this point, to really get into the conversation. DeGrom's handicap is that the innings limit will likely prevent him from finishing the season. we had this going in another thread. Not that voters use fWAR mostly, but Billy Hamilton had built quite a lead. Billy Hamilton 3.2 Chris Owings 1.9 Jacob deGrom 1.7 .. Travis d'Arnaud 0.6 Eric Campbell 0.5 Jeurys Familia 0.5

Ah, yes... so that's two I had forgotten about. how could you forget Argenis? Jerry Manuel played him for a month (26 PA) without a hit and it was one of the reasons they collapsed.
  4. I like Ron's solution. Don't try to kill people on the field, whether it's at home, or second, or wherever. suspend/fine them if they do so. i.e. homeplate collisions are now illegal. If a runner is blocked by the catcher, call obstruction the same way you would if the SS was standing in the basepath w/o the ball. The rule already got some blowback from 'traditionalists', perhaps it's a halfway measure, whether purposefully or not, towards simply banning collisions. It's really not that much different than third base anyway. Where does the third baseman stand when fielding a throw from RF on a first to third advancement after a single? The only difference I see is that a runner, perhaps, would need to slow up in order to not overrun the base, but that's why they slide. But it's exactly as effective (perhaps more) to barrel over the third baseman who already has the ball as it is the catcher and hope he drops it.
  5. Jon Switzer? Blaine Boyer? Lots of little mentioned relievers seem to slip into the beginning or ends of seasons. Then you got guys like Freddy Garcia, Spring Met only.
  6. voyeur from the future is nervous his past-self will not buy a lottery ticket, despite his timeline clearly being based on him buying that lottery ticket.
  7. Prado hasn't been real good and that catching prospect HAS looked good. Of course, they have McCann and two more years of Texiera at 1B so I guess they can spare him.
  8. Also getting some Tigers SS prospect, Adame or some such. Kelly Johnson (BOS) is presumably now on a plane with the Yankees to travel to Fenway Park where Stephen Drew (NYY) is waiting naked in a hallway where they ripped off all his Red Sox stuff.

  10. 4pm eastern daylight time. Nats did some sort of SS swap to play the uh..great..Asdrubal CAbrera at 2B.
  11. The interesting thing about Fuld is he was claimed by the Twins off waivers earlier this year.....from the As
  12. If money is no object, yes, you take Tulo (provided you don't have to mortgage EVERYTHING about the farm) and if he breaks you don't bat an eye. But _most_ teams don't work that way. The question isn't if Tulo's cost is worth the value upgrade over Tejada, but if it's the best option altogether. Perhaps there's a different SS (I would've signed Peralta) that is drastically less money and prospects and still bridges 75% of the difference in Tejada and Tulowizki. Then you upgrade elsewhere and have a pretty nice offense. There's no one way to build a good team and just picking the (second) biggest hole in the offense and shoving the biggest peg in isn't always the best one.
  13. The final AL guy was Troy Glaus. Cliff Floyd had 79.

Funny how this didn't thwart the Mets successful pursuit of Carlos Beltran. It's MetSpeak for "we're broke and can't afford Tulo, right? It's generally code for "we're trying to create a bidding war, raise your offer" I'm sure they tell the Yankees he wants to be a Dodger.
  15. The Top 10 Citi Field HR leaders, 4/13/09 - 7/30/13: Wright 46 Duda 31 Davis 30 Murphy 18 Pagan 15 Beltran 14 Hairston 13 Reyes 13 Bay 10 Francoeur 9 Jeff Francoeur presumably paying off somebody to keep Kirk Nieuwenhuis (8) down on the farm. Actually, Chase Utley is tied with Frenchy for 10th place with 9; Ryan Howard has 8. 7/30/14 fwiw. Wonder if Duda ever passes Wright.

  20. Missing the former Met now. Whose picture was posted on this forum sometime within the last two weeks that i remember. 2001 NL XBH leaders 1. Bonds 107 2. Helton 105 3. Sosa 103 4. 21. Curtis Granderson - former Detroit Tiger and played for some other team before coming to the Mets. Lefty. Power guy. Started slow but having a good season. Supposedly a really good guy. Daniel Murphy - This guy's been around a while. you should know him. He's playing second these days. Captain America (Though he hasn't become black) Lucas Duda - best hitter on the team this season. One of the best sluggers in the league this year. Little goofy. Plays first base these days. Travis d'Arnaud - Catching prospect that's been traded for two Cy Young winners. Mets got him for Dickey. Started slow, been good since a brief stint in the minors. Great framer. Chris Young - "Take a flyer" type guy that can play all three outfield positions. High-K, High-Power guy though lacking a lot of the power this year. He's hit okay recently, but he's on a one year deal and might not make it to September. Juan Lagares - One of the best defensive CFers in the game. dealt with some nagging injuries and since his last return hasn't been hitting/walking quite enough. Ruben Tejada - This guy makes out less often than the average major league player, so keeps he line moving. Decent defense at short. Best option there the Mets have, but that's faint praise. Zack Wheeler - stud SP acquired from the Giants for half a season of Carlos Beltran. Had his ups and downs this year, but plenty of promise and should be an interesting buddy-comedy narrative with Matt Harvey (Another stud young SP getting his Tommy John out of the way this season) going forward.
