  2. They averaged 4400 more fans a game the year they signed A-Rod. ~330,000 more fans, which at even $20 a ticket is $7 million not factoring in other ancillary income.

Who will take up the banner to represent all that is Yankees about the Yankees? Gardner? Tanaka? I imagine Yankee fans aren't feeling it. There's a feeling out there that MLB has spent so long proclaiming Jeter the one pure lamb in a forest of evil wolves that the whole sport is primed for a post-Jeter letdown. I'm not ready to buy it, but... Yankees missing the postseason two years in row minus Jeter plus a young, exciting Mets team plus Matt Harvey = ??? I am intrigued. Buy us a shortstop (Hanley?) and an outfielder (the Cuban kid?), Sandy, and let's win this city back. Also, better ballpark. Don't worry, I'm sure the Mets and/or Adam Rubin will beat the interesting out of Harvey soon enough.

Apparently that's by the boards. well he was playing den Dekker everyday before he hurt his hand. but Nieuwenhuis has been better and deserves a shot. It's almost like because he had a modicum of success, they've determined he can be a bench player and therefore he will be a bench player while they let den Dekker mostly suck every day to see if he can play.
  5. This is terry and Eric Young. Keep putting him in there cause he "got a hit" [youtube:31gmvjkv]Wms9LGqjkWA[/youtube:31gmvjkv]
  6. smg58 wrote: I haven't been following the posts here so much since school started so sorry if this has been discussed, but when is Niewenhuis going to get another start? I would have thought that an .859 OPS would get noticed on this team. you mean the HIGHEST OPS on the team? non-pitcher edition? why bother? Frayed Knot wrote: In the big picture this game doesn't mean much. But after Saturday's mess--one which is destined to be 'Exhibit A' in the 'Worst Baseball Games Ever' category (15 hits allowed, 4 errors plus about 5 more mistakes/goofs and just plain fuck-ups, walks, HBPs, high pitch-counts, bad weather, slow pace, yadda, yadda]--a win today means a split in this series against what is probably the league's best team. So at least give it a good try, OK boys? Plus near when/if/maybe we're competitive it'd be nice to shake the "can't beat the Nats at home" narrative a little bit in advance.
  7. I don't think I'm staying awake for the end of this one.

  9. WOR edition: If you don't drive a Honda, your 3rd grader will be mercilessly mocked at school.
  10. Edgy MD wrote: I'm pretty sure last year was just Pedro Lopez. you're right, it was actually sort of a "thing" that Wally didn't get to hang with the big club.
  11. Backman came up last year too didn't he? I'd hire Teufel over Wally.

If anyone else is going to be at that game, let me know. I'd love to meet you! but but did you purchase the Oktoberfest at Citi Field (special ticket required) | More Info tickets? I want to..but..well..baby.
  13. Personally I suspect we'll "See" David in February when Spring Training opens up.

It looks like their first hit was by ... you guessed it. Chris Young. We now send this thread back to the minus side. Later And, he hits a three run homer to win it. You can't make this shit up. Later I've lost all joy in baseball now. Bring on Hockey season.
  15. Diamond Dad wrote: The Vladick firm is a well-known plaintiff's shop. I wouldn't say that they are publicity seekers per se, but this case was filed lightning fast, and brought in federal court (where it doesn't really belong) and then announced to the press. All that sounds like a squeeze play. Also, as unfair as it is, suing your prior employee doesn't look good in job interviews, no matter the grounds. Especially with the chances that similar employees might actually agree with Jeff's supposed comments.
  16. Edgy MD wrote: Blacked out by MLB.tv. Gah. You didn't tell them that you're Edgy MD not Edgy DC now? Oversight surely.
  17. Centerfield wrote: But the very fact that they fired a senior female employee just a few months after she returned from Maternity leave, allegedly for poor job performance, is a historically stupid thing to do. Even if none of the other allegations were true, this would be very bad and any employment lawyer would advise against it. Yup. And unless they have a series of negative reviews on record preceding this firing, I would say it's even historicallier stupider. Likely they'll cite ticket sales, or other data from this season. Likely nothing will change, we'll get no real truth on that matter but will all suspect Jeff's a misogynistic asshole. What they should probably do, irregardless of what happens with the suit, is publicly push forward a gender equality program. make female employees pay match male employees pay and publicize that fact (not the salaries obviously) and institute a matching paternity/maternity leave program that favors taking care of our kids and not rewarding men for not doing so and punishing women for doing so. What they'll probably do: paint something pink and have a Woman's right charity host a promotion next year.
  18. Centerfield wrote: I have decided that within the year, I am starting a line of fragrances called "Bartolo Cologne", featuring our debonair starting pitcher. This is a great investment opportunity. PM me if you want in. Will this conflict with my Bartolo Cleanses initiative?
  19. Edgy MD wrote: That's what commemoration is about. Yearly things. I don't agree with using the on the field game to promote causes and what not. You can do all that without changing what the guys are wearing. There are a billion different ways to do it, and they do, without that. That's all. It doesn't make me more aware, more caring. Neither does wearing pink stuff. Or camo hats. Just my opinion, and I'm not alone. we don't need to debate it every year. But let's not act like they HAVE to wear the caps because it's the only right way to do things and everything else is an embarrassing fiasco. It misses the forest for the trees.
  20. themetfairy wrote: Fuck Camo Mondays! But the Mets' response in 2001 was unique and special and should be honored each year. I'm in total agreement with CF. I actually think the opposite, that it was unique, special, and spontaneous and making it a yearly 'thing' diminishes the original.
  21. Don't care. I think neither hats should be worn, and only regular Mets caps should be. This includes "Camo Mondays"
  22. Lexus Guy from future spends time in past protecting his future car even though he clearly knows it's not going to get beat up or he never would've bought it.
