But credit to Cespedes for putting pressure on the defense and exploiting an obvious flaw in the shift deployment. If the nearest defender is 50 feet from third base, the runner can take a 50-foot lead. I was kinda hoping he would steal home. Right? wait until the catcher only lobs it back to the pitcher and there's no way he's returning a throw in time to catch you.
  2. Centerfield wrote: On that Conforto wild pitch, would the run have counted if Cespedes had crossed the plate, then Conforto had been thrown out running to first? Since it's a force play, it seems like the run should not count. But since it's a wild pitch, it seems like the run should have counted. I have no idea. I have to assume not. It's a strikeout the second the third strike is called, and the batter becomes a runner. It's a force play, so the run won't count if he's put out at first. It's also not a wild pitch if he's put out at first.

  4. pretty sure it was past my bedtime.
  5. for game 2 I randomly found them on mets.com/tickets one afternoon. for game 1 and potentially 7 I managed to click into the7line presale on time.
  6. Gwreck wrote: Your overall point about the Mets making more money for being in the playoffs is correct. But this is not: Ceetar wrote: the Mets made, conservatively, 3 million from each of 4 playoff games just from ticket sales and are guaranteed a 5th. 60% of the ticket sales from all 4 of those games go to the players' pool, not to the Mets, as per the CBA. well sure, but the Mets ultimately get money from that as well right? Mets ticket prices and income obviously much higher than say Kansas City, but they're making a pretty penny from this. And really the big thing is the 2016 purchases and expected attendance increases beyond already purchased tickets. They drew 400k more fans in 2015 so factoring that into expected revenue is pretty significant, never mind what they project beyond that based on the actual success. They'll eclipse 3 million fans next year and their 'max' is only like 3.5.
  7. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Centerfield wrote: Part of the reason I want this ride to keep going is that I don't know when the Mets will put this complete a team out there again. Right now, we have all four aces healthy, the entire starting lineup healthy, we have 2 extra starters in the bullpen, and a deep bench. All of this materialized because our young talent developed while the old guard was still here. All of this also materialized because the Mets had an insurance policy on David Wright that kicked in, saving them 75% of his 2015 salary, and because the Mets didn't have to pay Mejia. That's how Sandy was able to strengthen the bench and take on the rest of Cespedes's 2015 salary. But what next year? Will the Mets still be the same broke? Because if they're gonna be as broke next year as they were at the beginning of this season, the Murphy re-signing would be a non-issue. And Cespedes beyond this year -- a child's dream. even if that was all true, the Mets made, conservatively, 3 million from each of 4 playoff games just from ticket sales and are guaranteed a 5th. And then there's parking (easily another half million+), and in-game merch sales. Then there is all the increased 2016 season ticket sales to guarantee 2015 playoff tickets, and these are important because they actually raise the expected 2016 revenue in which to measure payroll against. And then there is the inevitable raised rates for advertising both at the park, on giveaways, and on SNY.

  10. heard that Chris Schwinden is now a California State Trooper.
  11. they should probably throw him more sliders as he hasn't hit one in the postseason yet, but maybe that's just because they haven't given him a hittable one. they're working him almost exclusively away.
  12. I've been saying the Mets will offer Murphy the Qualifying offer and let him walk all season, nothing that happens over a small sample of games, however important, will change that.
  13. cooby wrote: I;ll bet the coffee and cocoa lines were long! I'm sure the Dunkin line on the field level was, but they tricked people by having the hot cocoa at the ice cream stands and only advertised via hanging sign above the cashiers so I bet a bunch of people missed it. 7:50 the guy I was with walked right up to the register.

Misplayed that Turner ball in LA, looked shaky on a fly ball that Cespedes cut him off and took last night. Nerves? - Shortest concession lines were in left field promenade. Why? the wind there was out of control and it was at least 10 degrees colder in that tunnel than in our seats a mere 50 yards away. Pedro is so great. Was egging on the applause from The7Line on Saturday night around the 8th when he returned to prep for postgame. Conforto I don't think had reports of being a great defender, but yeah, seemed a little shaky at times. Speaking of defense, I want to mention Flores getting the second out at first in the 9th. I feel like that's a play early in the season he rushes to get at second and ends up getting no one. Saturday the lines in CF were really short after the game started. Shake Shack was probably only a 15 minute wait (I got Tacos in like..4 minutes) Promenade was more busy last night though. Probably just that the fan-food ratio is not as good. I got Nachos in a helmet since that was the shortest line and I didn't bring in the planned sandwich.
  15. Gwreck wrote: Some interesting musical choices at the park. The "Piano Man" singalong persists, but a couple of innings earlier, they played "Livin' on a Prayer" which got a much better reaction. There was also - yes, believe it or not - a playing of "Who Let the Dogs Out." In a much more positive development, after "New York Groove" was played right after the final out, then the PA played "Meet the Mets," with the full original lyrics (butcher, baker, people on streets, et al.) which was a big singalong for the second straight night as fans exited. Well done, Mets AV team. Yes, walking out to "the butcher and the baker and the people on the streets.." was cool. fwiw, Mets fans shouting Lets Go Mets in the stairwells at Citi is A LOT louder than the ramps at Shea. The music/scoreboard operators still don't realize starting the '2 strike' clap stuff seconds after the last pitch is WAY too early, but otherwise I applaud the creativity and wish they'd do this sorta stuff all season long. Also amusing: They played the Beatles birthday song after Cespedes' hit. (Cause you know, it was his birthday!)
  16. yay! that was fun. shout out to the fans in my section who thought this was a mid-week April game yelling "down in front" at anyone that dared stand too much.
  17. last week tonight

I don't what it is about that little area there but it's always so much colder than advertised. Hopefully there will be decent cell service (probably not with all those people) but don't forget to check in on the IGT all you game goers! Let's GO METS!! my battery was shot and my backup battery is busted apparently. oops. my first October game at Citi but I didn't imagine it much differently than Shea (or Citi in March/April). it's cold.
  19. echo much of what gwreck said, including the first game sine 7 in '06. I didn't notice people leaving early but was harder to tell from centerfield. I think it's neat how empty the food lines are with a full stadium after the game starts. I managed to get a beer, a bathroom break, and some tacos in less than an inning .
