  1. am I spoilsport if I point out that powerball's not enough to buy the team, nor buy it AND clear whatever debt exists on the team?

But isn't that kindof the point...? i admit this somewhat comes from a laziness standpoint, but my thought was that the draft is already 2-3 hours long which is pushing the bounds for 'casual competitiveness' imo. But on the other end of it, I'm not sure there is necessarily a competitive advantage to grabbing a bunch of $1 gambles. You probably end up committing to players who probably suck longer, have less room for spring pickups, and do have to pay to cut these scrubs later. It's a lot like the Rule 5 draft. We've got our 12th owner, I just have to figure out how to add him via the UI which is just oh so user friendly. I either have to wait for a database propagation or he needs to link his fangraphs account and pay but he can't do that until he has a team? it's confusing. i'm looking into it.

Join a FFL league with Ceetar and I and 9 people you don't know and earn a chance to win big! Most rules remain unchanged, though we bumped the price up to $85. I think Ceetar would attest that it's a good league. PM me here or on FB if interested. it's a good league.

If he doesn't get back to me by early next week he can lose his claim to you as long as you can make the Wednesday March 23rd at 8:30 PM draft time? It'll be a couple of hours to draft from there. I think I might set a hard end time for the draft, sometimes a team or two stays up late putting in $1 claims on scrubs/prospects to round out their team when everyone else is asleep. Seems like we should try to limit that a little bit.
  7. yeah, and Murphy is a better player than some of the other guys they almost signed, so that's bad. Personally i think he has a good 2016 and a mediocre 2017-2018. I don't think he'll kill the Mets specifically, though he's sorta like the Royals in a "put the ball in play" kind of way.
  8. I think Scott Rolen is a Hall of Famer too, fwiw.

Simply remaining a good player (say, averaging 3.0 WAR a season) for the next 5 years isn't going to do it. Like a said, one more HoF season seems a necessity. Say he had a 6 WAR season this year, he'd move up to 18th. 10-11 WAR over the next 4 seasons, which isn't much, would get him right around that AVG line. Factor in his character and hopefully some postseason success and a ring? I mean, maybe he's done. Maybe this spinal thing will just destroy him. 140 PA isn't much, but that's what he played after the injury and he was good. Not good enough, perhaps, but if he's on the field I have faith in him being good.
  10. the problem is they're not just _first responder_ hats. The damn things say NYPD and they're probably worse than the Wilpons.
  11. Let's not sleep on David Wright now. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/jaws_3B.shtml Provided he's not just done, I figure one more HoF caliber season would put him at heavily favored, but even just being healthy enough to be 'good' for the next 5 years of this contract could get him there. Perhaps Beltran can cover 4 more years there too.
  12. Officially Mets cap.
  13. Edmonds should've gotten more love.

  15. This pretty much settles it, doesn't it? Primary team: New York Mets settles that it won't be a Dodgers cap. Could still be blank.

  17. about time. Shame it comes after I no longer really care about that particular Hall of Fame, but still nice to be in the 'real' Hall. Of course, it would've been a lot easier for me to attend that first year... I don't know if they'll sell out his number retirement. I don't think they sold out the Mets Hall of Fame induction, number is a bigger deal though I guess. If I had to wager it'll be July 30th or 31st, that following weekend, to sorta 'follow up' the Hall of Fame ceremony, or mid-September. Twins/18th? I think they want to do it after.

SteveJRogers wrote: Ceetar wrote: good to put 'hot' in quotation marks since I feel like this has been discussed for at least 8 years. reasonable shot they just go no logo like they probably will for Beltran too. To be fair, I doubt Beltran elicits too many warm fuzzies with most of his fanbases to justify a "hot topic" debate over who's cap he'd wear. On top of that, I'd imagine he'd have a McGriff/Sheffield type of journey through the balloting process. perhaps, but lots of people I follow and talk are rabidly pro-Beltran in both cases. He's easily one of my favorite Mets all-time.

  21. except relying on prospects lowers on the floor. And Johnson can't play SS and Cabrera is a much better hitter than Flores and you'll have at least one of Flores and Tejada as backup (and both for now) rather than just them. The team has better depth, better offense and better defense with Cabrera and Walker than it would've with Johnson and there's no indication that these moves prohibit them from trading for an impact bat in the outfield if that's what they choose to do.
  22. Walker is 30, Johnson is 34 and didn't look particularly good defensively last year. Also if you adjust for park Walker is clearly the better hitter. If they'd signed Johnson instead of Walker everyone would call them cheap. Now they spend an extra $7 million or so to have Walker and it's using the money wrong?
  23. good to put 'hot' in quotation marks since I feel like this has been discussed for at least 8 years. reasonable shot they just go no logo like they probably will for Beltran too.
