I don't see it or get it, although it's may just be one of those things that starts with a single mention somewhere then is copied by others who assume that the initial reference means that it's a universally agreed upon fact. I mean there is a decent amount of people out there that don't think he's that good, too streaky, too low average, don't understand true value, etc. But to take that and interpret it the way Davidoff does (especially with the over-hated phrase that makes no sense) is nothing more than click-bait really, but most of what the 'have to write something' folks write during this time of year is click-bait. What's amusing to me is that he states it as NY, apparently he's in on this A-Rod redemption campaign that the media is on.

Fowler, like every other FA, is simply going to make whatever he can in his next negotiations. I think it's obvious that he erred in rejecting the QO since that's where he wound up anyway and for half the price and it's not like the mutual option he got for '17 makes up for it. I don't know what happened between him and Baltimore -- it seems like HE backed out but it's not clear. there's no formula, but I'm sure the players are aware they're getting less and less of the pie. Even if nothing actually happens, I suspect the issue will get raised meaning it might be in the owner's best interest if that number starts heading in the order direction for the NEXT negotiation.
  3. Centerfield wrote: I never would have guessed it. All those years I wished for the Mets to bring a complete team into a season, I figured I'd be ecstatic looking forward to the year. If they had brought in pitchers in 2007. Or hitters in 2008. Or if they had been able to re-sign Olerud in 2000. I mean, I'm definitely happy. Thrilled even. And nervous, because of course, they haven't won anything yet. And there's always a risk of injury. And it's not crazy to think that Cespedes, and Granderson, and Familia could all fall back to the pack a bit. But I'm still very optimistic. But it's also kind of boring. I mean, you can only milk the car thing for so long. Don't worry, i'm sure real games are just.. wtf, over a month?
  4. Fowler now gets to test the waters either of the next two years if he wants. I don't know if it's coincidence, but there seems to be a lot pushing for opt outs in that crazy free agent class in two years. Wild conspiracy theory here, but were the players union to push for a larger slice of the pie in negotiations, it'd certainly benefit anyone hitting free-agency the next year or two over people signing long term deals now wouldn't it?
  5. i mean, without rule changes Utley and the batter are out and the inning is over. I'm glad the neighborhood play rule review exemption is gone, for precisely the reason with Utley. You couldn't review the neighborhood play but only if it was successful was it actually the neighborhood play. So you couldn't review if he missed the bag on a pivot basically, but if the dp didn't go as planned, you could review if he received the ball, or bobbled, or what not.
  6. Edgy MD wrote: Seems like every time the Mets make the post-season, a new rule is made the next year and/or a player is suspended over whatever screwed them the previous October. In 2001, you had Clemens fined heavily for the bat incident that somehow wasn't enough to get him ejected. In 2007, the changed the rules about post-season roster transactions, because the Mets almost got caught without a starter in the championship series. And now we have the slide rule re-written, even thought the rule as it stood should probably have led to a double play and ejection. The Mets mess things up just by being! They changed the rules to make it harder to win the World Series (extra rounds!) the first year the Mets made it didn't they?
  7. I'm not particularly car-enamored, but If/when I'm rich I'm not gonna drive in puny mid-level boring cars. Gotta appreciate something with a little pick-up and of course, all the luxury features.

  10. 1. You are driving a: Ice Cream Truck 2. You are wearing: T-Shirt with Adam Rubin's face on it. 3. And of course, the shoes are: flip flops with a bottle opener in them. 4. As you get closer, reporters can hear an Ice Cream Truck Jingle blasting from your speakers. 5. Pulling in, they look in your passenger seat and see: A pile of Babysitters club novels. 6. You turn off your engine, get out, and say: "A hot dog is a sandwich." And then slip away while they're brawling.

  12. Cespedes' most expensive purchase was a Lamborghini Aventador ($300,000), which Vega stripped down to the frame and customized, including adding an exhaust system that blows fire
  13. Vega is also working on a tricked-out SRT for Jeurys Familia, and is talking to Bartolo Colon about becoming a client. I can only imagine...

  18. if he bats in the 6th of a game the Mets are up at least 3, I'd pull him. Also if he bats in the 7th or 8th or 9th of a game the Mets are winning by that much in. I wouldn't pull him down 3 in the 6th or 7th, because I"d want him to get up again. even down 4-5 in the 6th I probably don't. I also don't pull him two days in a row for this. While I want to minimize fatigue, I also don't want him to get used to 6 inning games. The minimal benefit to his back isn't worth the sap in endurance and whatnot that routinely not playing full games can bring. I also would me more apt to pull him night game before day game. Especially because in my eye I'm sitting him for the day game with the distinct possibility of him batting in the 5th or 6th and staying in the last few innings. I know David Wright doesn't need conscious motivation, but sometimes unconscious motivation can work on the brain sorta like a placebo. Things like "David, you're batting here in the 6th against the reliever down 3-2 with the bases juiced cause you're the best and we need you. But if you homer to make it 6-3, you get to rest and it's only PH, make an out and you play out the game. "
  19. I checked again, but the Mets will NOT be having a group of lions out at Citi Field.
  20. d'Kong76 wrote: Are the Mets the first team to have this promo? the tweets say it's the first NY team and the first MLB team. I can't speak to the validity of that. http://m.mets.mlb.com/nym/tickets/info/lgbt-night
  21. batmagadanleadoff wrote: This is mainly about getting rid of competitors so that the team can sell their available stock at a higher price, right? Yes, basically. They started this last year, or the year before I think. They've been going back and forth but it stemmed from Stub Hub's lower minimum sale price as compared to Ticketmaster. This will mainly hurt the non-smartphone friendly older crowd that still knows enough to buy a ticket on StubHub and print it. Otherwise it's mostly just an added inconvenience to get a ticket to the game. (You know, besides it being the Bronx, the Yankees, no parking, a long subway ride and a miserable fanbase and a mall of a stadium)
  22. pretty damn good reliever for a number of years until he got hurt. Recovering from Tommy John last year with no control, but expect he'll be useful this year.
  23. El Segundo Escupidor wrote: Centerfield wrote: I think a lot will be determined by how Wilmer looks at 1B. If he can be serviceable, then I think the need to make any move is lessened. If he can't do it, then I think Ben Grimm is right and we will look to bring in a Rayburn type. I'd take Raburn over De Aza in a heartbeat. Can't figure out why he hasn't been signed yet -- is he crook? he's really really really (really) bad in even years it seems like. so it seems hard to tell if he's reliable. 2 of the last 4 years have been absolute black hole.
  24. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Good. De Aza's more expendable because the Mets acquired a player (Cespedes) who plays De Aza's position and is higher up on the depth chart. You can't say that about any other Met that was expected to get at least 180 PA's in 2016. Tejada and Flores are more expendable because the Mets signed Cabera and Walker. A myriad of relievers are more expendable based on signings. Verrett and Montero are more expendable because they signed Colon. The other three+ outfielders are more expendable. Campbell got 206 PA last season. he's more expendable. Carlos Torres was expended. as was Ceciliani. Nieuwenhuis.
  25. batmagadanleadoff wrote: So how many PA's did you think De Aza would get before Cespedes was re-signed? If he was good? maybe 180? If he struggled, maybe 90.
