  1. I want to sneak one more game in if only for the sake of picking up an Apple ice cream dish. But thinking 9/10 for fidget spinner might be my only chance.
  2. If David WERE to walk away, I'm sure it wouldn't be empty handed. The Wilpons would work some sort of deal out with him behind the scenes. Bonilla like or A-Rod like or whatever.
  3. Also the diagnosis: Local anesthetic nerve blocks are sterile procedures that are usually performed in an outpatient facility or hospital. The procedure can be performed with the help of ultrasound, fluoroscopy (a live X-ray), or CT to guide the physician in the placement of the needle. A probe positioning system can be used to hold the ultrasound transducer steady. Electrical stimulation can provide feedback on the proximity of the needle to the target nerve. That doesn't exactly seem like something you just do on a whim. "Well, maybe it's this? let's try numbing the nerve!" I mean, that would've likely mandated another DL stint and both sides opted to try to pitch. And Terry's quotes are correct. He very well could've taken the ball as normal.
  4. The articles state he had inflammation between starts. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/steven-matz-headed-dl-undisclosed-injury-article-1.3430131 Matz said he had no issue with the way the Mets handled his injury. http://www.newsday.com/beta/sports/baseball/mets/steven-matz-may-need-elbow-surgery-source-says-1.14080944 According to a source, Matz consented to multiple pain-killing injections, occasionally on game days, to quell the pain that came along with an elbow that at times swelled to the size of a grapefruit. The pain came and went, though the elbow bothered him mostly between starts. It wasn’t like I couldn’t throw. I was still able to throw, so it’s kind of a tough call.

Look at all the deals they've just made... we received NO real prospects, just payroll relief and a shitload of hard throwing right-handed RPs with minimal success in the minors to date. If we wanted actual prospects, we would've picked up some of the salary of our outgoing guys. But no, they just wanted to save the cash. And there's no indication that they'll be willing to spend next year at this year's levels. Spot on. I recall Sandy saying the went a little over payroll this year and the fire sale was a way of giving it back to the owner. My guess is the Mets might be painfull frugal this off season. Actually, the opposite. It suggest that the Wilpons will again be willing to go over payroll for the right gamble/players. While I'd love for them to take the savings from this year and apply it directly to next year, there is some consistent business logic in making a balance sheet add up, and trying not to spend more than expected revenue. I don't love it, but they have been burned before too.. Also there's no indication that the Mets could've gotten better prospects by paying the salaries of any of these guys. And it's clearly not a "gimme whatever" trade as they very specifically targeted a certain type of player. Players with life. perhaps players who if they perfected a slider, something they seem to be able to do in NY, would be able to contribute.
  7. A Boy Named Seo wrote: I feel bad for Matz, and if he felt like the team had this "rub some dirt on it, don't be a pussy" view of him, then yah, he's gonna try to pitch through it (and look like crap doing it). I mean, if the dude can't throw a ball without pain in the 4 days since his last start, why in the world would anyone think he'd feel good on the 5th day? Shut him down and keep digging for the cause. Because A. He didn't feel like the team had that view of him. He and the Mets were on the same page. and B. He COULD throw the ball without pain. It was just between starts he was having issues.

  9. Did they check him for Spinal Stinosis? I mean, one guy on the team has that too. Better make sure.
  10. I mean, i like Duda and he's a good player, but I think you might look for someone that offers a bit more flexibility, if you that player is the best choice for adding offense, in a "Smith and Duda both mashing" scenario, like someone you could play at third, or RF, in a pinch. I'm not sure either of those guys are that, though the Mets still sorta consider Flores a potential SS so I dunno. They've very obviously been okay with bad defense.
  11. Frayed Knot wrote: Darvish: just turned 31, lotta mileage on him (full-timer in Japan starting at age 19), hasn't had a full season in MLB since 2013 (64 starts total from 2014-17) and is currently on the DL again. Not saying we should cross him off our lists but doesn't strike me as an "All-In" type either. He's the best option. Could trade for someone if you prefer. Get another top flight starter.
  12. Darvish. Darvish first priority. get Darvish. Darvish Darvish Darvish.
  13. reallllly nice catch in the Wild Card game last year too, playing center.
  14. He was bad. bad bad bad. Got some sorta rep as being better than others behind the plate and for 'helping' Thor. He strung his hits together into streaks that make him look appealing, because it often happened right as he got a little playing time off injuries. But it's not even like he was lucky. I checked the win probability added as a batter while he was here, and he's 48th. Behind all the pitchers. behind everyone but Lagares and d'Arnaud. This stat is basically luck, but I was curious if he had just kept getting his hits in key moments and that's why people don't hate him, but I guess it's just because when you're a backup catcher you only need a hit a month for people to not hate you. But like, the Mets should've legitimately been pitching hitting Syndergaard for him in key spots.

"We're going to try just signing whoever and playing them out of position on purpose." "Maybe switch 'em back an' forth a bit between TWO unfamiliar positions in the same inning, just to keep everyone on their toes. " well _that_ was brilliant, but sounds like it came from Terry.
  16. Nowadays you can just f12 and make any site say whatever you want. (never trust a screenshot)
  17. I'm taking literally none of Alderson's public statements about team building seriously. I dunno, I think he's done a good, not great, job and I'm fine with him continuing. I don't know if the next guy would be necessarily better. I think Barwis/injury is a tenuous connection at best. I probably agree that there's a workout connection, but more related to philosophy and goals of the players/team. Barwis is simply the tool used, and he did come highly recommended. In fact, other players come to PSL to work out with him, though it's hard to confirm who. You could argue that the Mets grabbing him and locking him in to THEIR location is actually a coup. Previously players were traveling to Michigan to work out with him anyway, so now they have those players under their roof, with a little more control, and even subsidize it a little if I recall. I mean, there are always going to be concerns. Is it too NFL oriented? (Barwis has plenty of football clients) is it too much weights? too many reps? etc. There's a lot of study on this but there's very little conclusive links between certain workouts/muscles to injuries. It's not like the Mets didn't get hurt before Barwis. Terry via Alderson though. is Alderson sticking around short term? because a new GM would presumably want to have his own crew. So why would you hire another manager if you're gonna dump him in a year or two? And what about the coaches? the offense hasn't shined, OBP has been bad. Is Long out? Warthen's been around forever at this point, but the pitching was..bad..this year. If Terry's gone, does he survive the ax again? Is it time to promote Viola?
  18. I pretty much disagree with much of it, but it's Sherman so that's not really surprising.
  19. let's go back to black, but not just any black, VANTA black.
  20. I felt like Nimmo's been up and down a lot, but I just looked and it's barely. I feel like we/them have given up on him as anything more than like, fodder, but he's gotten like no real exposure, hit well in the minors last year, though only average this year. But he walks. he walks well. Some comfort and confidence to drive the ball a little in an offensive juiced ball era seems worth giving him a longer look too. Can we please move Granderson? He doesn't have to be a gold glover, just solidly average with that BB% rate and he's the perfect leadoff guy.
  21. This just dawned on me. it was raining? I was there. mentally, not so much after the point in the photograph, but I have no recollection of rain. I remember the constant drizzle during Ventura's Grand Single game ,but not this one.
  22. seawolf17 wrote: Ceetar wrote: unless you can find a real CFer with some OBP anyway. I read that as a "real CPFer" and was like "well, Lunchie's kid can play..." My kid rounded the bases nicely on Sunday but then fell and skinned her knee pretty badly running behind the backstop, so probably no better than Lagares.
  23. Lagares, no. He can be a useful piece if he can keep his BB% up. it's dipped a little this year, though let's see where it ends. if he can get it to last year's level with the slight increase in power and the gold glove defense he's worth playing for the 15 games he's healthy. unless you can find a real CFer with some OBP anyway.
  24. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Yeah they are eminently beatable. We really need a reliable tablesetter type to hit 3rd everyday and reach base at 400, and we'd kill these guys. I mean, we have a guy that can hit 3rd, get on base at 400. he's on the 60 day DL. Whatever happened to him? If he'd been a regular these past few I feel like he'd be a HoFer.

Or Kenya, for that matter. Heck, a hundred bucks says he couldn't point out Kenya on a map right now. Kenya? I bet he couldn't find Guam on a map. Hell, tell him to properly place Missouri, Colorado, Kansas, Wyoming and Nebraska and it's an even bet he screws it up. (I always mentally think Colorado is more north than it is, the elevation/cold plays tricks on me.)
