  2. You trade deGrom or Cespedes for guys that will make you better in aggregate, in places that are harder to get. I'm not sure the Mets have those holes. d'Arnaud isn't great, and is hurt, and Plawecki hasn't hit up here yet. but that's where you'd look. You could find another pitcher, even one maybe that's only 90% as good, that makes up the win difference of getting a excellent catcher and like, a few young prospects that might be useful one day. something like that. Or like a real quality CFer. You can (usually) find someone to approximate decent offense at the third spot if you've got Conforto-CF if you trade Cespedes for it. There are creative ways to go about trading just about anyone. The goal is still to win in 2018, and beyond.

Breweries are destinations now though. And a quick stop off the 7? easy. I know McFaddens tried to open all year but that place is garbage. I want to say this is a death knell for it, but I think there's a certain culture of sports fans that are gonna stick their nose up at Beer Geek Breakfast stout and the odd beers and stick to garbage bud light in dirty taps. And _something_ is going to be built across the street, mall-like, shopping like. Now that it's razed it's almost eminent. People will be in the area. Plus it's an actual brewery, like, not a gimmick. So they're going to supply and distribute the beer around the city+.
  4. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Wait, Mikkeller? So does this mean that it'll be, like, a room with a conference table, a few tablets, and a phone with their actual, physical brewery on speed dial? no, it's a full production brewery.
  5. Mikkeller will open a 10k sq ft brewery in the right field corner (Mets offices/ticketing stuff now) 60 taps. This is cool. [tweet:10i93q94] [/tweet:10i93q94]
  6. He signed on to be exploited. That's why he's there..
  7. been a Lively game so far.
  8. I'm pretty sure I'm not off Monday.
  9. Why would the new ballpark make Bartolo unable to throw strikes?
  10. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: That could have been the knockout road trip, instead 5-5 and gaining on their foes. Mets go 7-2 Nats go 5-5. Mets would be just 1 game under .500 at the break and a not disastrous 7 back in the loss column. That's when we can get hope back out of it's box in the closet imo. That's also oddly possible given how crappy the Mets have been most of the year.

It didn't look as bad as Conforto's but, as I've said before, I don't understand how 90 mph pitches don't break bones Every. Single. Time., and mostly I think the fact that one pitch does while another one doesn't is mostly just a matter of luck. yeah, it's probably just if it happens to hit between a bone or on a bone.
  12. Sure, but they're newly in Columbia and the Mets providing ticket draw is beneficial to the relationship (and beneficial to Tebow's agent to do a favor) Since their's pretty much always room for a celebrity minor leaguer if they're willing, I wonder if this could catch on. But there probably aren't enough 20-30ish uber-stars with even the baseline athleticism to fake it like timmy is. Like, Drake would get embarrassed out there.
  13. Anyone that's gonna destroy the Yankees, so AL East for me for now
  14. so where is today's thread, by the by?
  15. Fman99 wrote: Off days suck, though, on the flip side, I went to bed early, with no game on, and got a butt-ton of sleep last night. I've heard of that. It will be nice to be back on east coast time though.
  16. Frayed Knot wrote: The only chance I see them of slipping up is if their rotation gets somehow decimated. They've gone through the entire season to date with only four token starts from anyone other than their main five and, while four & five (Roark & Ross) may be shaky at times, their big three are as good as anyone's so unless something happens to one or more of those guys ... well yeah, but I feel like you always take the over on "how many pitchers will get hurt" They're vulnerable in the sense that if YOU can pitch, you can hold them close and pounce on the bullpen. The Mets-Nats games two weeks ago turned very heavily on pitches, and defensive plays, not made. Sure, if the pitching holds up they'll be fine, but they're like one Max Scherzer shoulder twinge away from being the Mets. Since the start of 2013 no one has thrown more innings than Scherzer, and he's 50 ahead of Samardzija.
  17. Nats fall 5-4 to the Cubs. Their bullpen is bad, making the deficit increase from 2 to 5 before rallying for 4 runs to lose by 1. If only there was another team in the division to challenge them, the Nats look very vulnerable.
  18. Sure, but it's cascading. (and they move guys around all the time) Take this Jose Miguel Medina guy who went from Columbia, to Brooklyn, to PSL, to Brooklyn, back to Columbia, and back to Brooklyn. (his living situation must suck) Lost of roster shuffling this time of year.
  19. Guess they needed the space in Columbus for the real prospects they just drafted.
  20. It's really too early for it though. The thing is, is the possibility of a better pick offset by the presumably lesser return you get by guys like Bruce and Granderson sucking into the deadline? Of course it doesn't really matter right now, as they're losing with some of those guys being good, but you'd kind of like them to be all on fire for a month or so here. And you kinda don't want the guys you have to suck. Like if d'Arnaud sucks you're worried about catcher for next year, but if he plays well and wins games, that's very much useful information. same with Nimmo, Conforto, Plawecki, Rosario, Smith, etc. Stick to 6-man and make sure Pill gets his fair share of starts and always pull the good pitchers early? You gotta at least wait until they rule out the possibility, however slim, that they go on a 15/18 tear that gets them back into things. Once September gets here, play some of these maybe not quite ready prospects to get them exposure.
  21. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I suspect the Mets would ultimately have been better off had Walker rejected them. Hard to trade at that salary, good enough but not great, and as far as I know Cheech/TJ/Wilmo /Cabrera/Wright etc. could presumably hack his role. Though maybe if everything else that went wrong went right it wouldn't have mattered so much. Nah, I mean there would've been some depth issues perhaps, but there's no real indication that they signed Walker (or Bruce) OVER doing something else. I think the Mets just got stuck in a little bit of a wedge, with a lot of average or good players with plenty of warts. They put so many eggs in the run prevention via pitching basket that when that exploded it really exposed all the other holes. It's why the Mets should trade for a pitcher. Or two. I expected, and still do, this team to be WAY different in August+. As much as this season is going bad, it could ultimately work out. It sucks to suck this bad, but it's probably better for '18-'20 to not try to milk every inch of WAR out of Cabrera and Walker and Bruce and use them to provide some long term depth. Even if they only get a few serviceable relievers or bench guys, it'll be good.
  22. Chad Ochoseis wrote: At the current pace, the Nationals will win 99 games and the Diamondbacks will win the second wild card spot with 100. Not that anyone believes the Rockies and Diamondbacks are quite that good, but 86 wins this year will be barely good enough for a participation trophy. of course, the standings in June so often fail to really tell the story. Nationals won't win 99 games and if they go into the playoffs the way they're constructed now they'll get destroyed. It wouldn't be hard to see either a. The Nationals pitching really start to cost them. Maybe not 86 games..but closer to 90? b. one or both of the Rockies falling off that pace and having a bleh second half, in which the second wild card ends up less than 90. The Mets aren't out of it because of the field, they're out of it because them turning on a dime to be a consistent winner seems implausible at this point.
  23. metirish wrote: Benjamin Grimm wrote: This season has kinda fallen short of expectations, hasn't it? A .600 pace the rest of the way gets them to 86 wins. That sounds nice, but this doesn't look like a .600 team, does it? wow , never going to happen, looks stark when you put it like that, .600 just to get 86 wins I mean, it's not out of the question, even slightly above that, but there are no signs that the pitching will stabilize. You can't have these absolute non-competitive games from Wheeler, Gsellman, even deGrom. Even if they were all just slightly worse, including Lugo and Matz, than what are dreams are, they'd have a realistic shot at that.
