  1. Sure but like, they could've signed them two, three weeks ago. Unless it's just linked to the rosters expanding? Like out of it teams just dumping guys to make room so let the worse teams have a shot at them first? I dunno that this is still an advantage in this day and age.
  2. What is the purpose of waivers anyway? where did they originate? It seems like it's mostly just a way for teams to trade guys in August, with a lot of 'good faith' of not claiming guys you don't want. But why not just push the trade deadline back in that case? Who benefits this way?

  5. It's not like Cessa is good. or average. or okay.
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: It used to be worst to first in the team's own league and only then shifting to worst to first in the opposite league. But I'm not sure, in this post-Selig era where the lines between NL & AL have been blurred, whether it's now a straight worst to first regardless of which side of the line you're on. Wiki confirms worst to first own league, then opposite league. Whichever team has best claim is the only team in which you can trade to.
  7. I think it might start in the other league first.
  8. yes the Yankees, not the Indians, but supposedly he said (5 days before the trade) that he'd likely accept a trade to a contender on the list.
  9. only have to clear once. can trade for anyone, but yes, they have to clear waivers too if they're on the 40. When the Mets traded Wagner the guy they wanted from the Red Sox was leaked, and then claimed by the Yankees to fuck with them supposedly, so the Mets didn't get the guy until October.
  10. they can trade them after 9/1 too, it's just that that's the deadline to be on the 40 man for playoff eligibility.
  11. I read somewhere that they were two prospects that the Mets talked to the Yankees about in July but couldn't find anything about whether it was Yankee offered, or Mets requested. And either way, that deal clearly wasn't good enough on it's own. imo the mistake Alderson made with Bruce was trading FOR him, and then picking up the option expecting people to want him if/when Conforto proved he would play every day.
  12. "his slider is less developed" and the Mets have a reputation for developing great sliders.
  13. bmfc1 wrote: The only silver lining is that he didn't go to the MFYs. They were the other rumored team to be hot and heavy for JB. But still, yah, color me non impressed. [tweet] [/tweet] So the Yankees would rather give up prospects than money, but the METS are cheap? This narrative has so many holes it makes swiss cheese feel ashamed.
  14. bmfc1 wrote: The Wilpons save $4M in salary which might account for the low return. Clearly saving $ is more important than getting help for next year as only 2 of the 5 relievers that they've acquired are close to the majors. Perhaps they'll use the bounty they saved for Duda and Bruce and go for a FA but I doubt it. you know what accounts for the low return? That Bruce isn't very good and no one else has wanted him during all the other attempts to trade him.

I'm no expert in trademark law, but I did read that someone got rejected for 'Paulie D' on trademark grounds, so I could see why Dark Knight didn't fly, but I wouldn't have thought Thor would either. 17. Google says Debra Messing
  18. Centerfield wrote: What's disheartening is that the Nats aren't going to lose anyone critical to their success. In fact, though Werth has put up good numbers, it's more important to Washington to clear his salary. It sucks. These guys are going to be good for a while. meh. Gio is significantly overperforming. Tanner Roark is not good. Stephen Strasberg is good, but always injured. NO ONE has thrown more innings than Max Scherzer over the last 5 season. He's great, but there are some signs of some fatigue there. But even if Scherzer doesn't break, one pitcher does not a rotation make.
  19. The Mets still win? how about that!
  20. I'd like them to sign Darvish.
  21. at work so just checking in occasionally, but this is a very Coors game.
  22. Edgy MD wrote: Methinks he intends to make a joke about how overmatched the Mets will be compared to the evening's star attractions. Was thinking more about ESPN's coverage.
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: The only other "late" game from here on out is this Sunday where we're shunted off to ESPN-land vs the Dodgers. Mets will wear Washington Generals uniforms for that one.
  24. Bruce has been surprisingly good this year, but let's not get too crazy about a 1-dimensional slugger with bad defense in this new juiced ball era. He's still got an 8.6 BB% compared to league average 8.9%. his .329 OBP is league average. He's fine. he's been better than average. He's 23rd in fWAR among outfielders. He's got a career high ISO and wRC+. Class contract year stuff. Judging by the interest he's gotten last offseason, this spring, this trade deadline, I'm not sure teams are willing to overpay for that.
