  1. Cooperstown is a cute town but it's in the butt end of nowhere and the whole HOF story is built on a lie. I don't think that having another HOF in say St. Louis, Chicago, or Los Angeles would make the HOF in Cooperstown any more of a poorly thought out bad idea for Major League Baseball.
  2. Are the FSN Ohio broadcasters really so brazenly bored with baseball that they just spent a half inning discussing Bengals football?
  3. I like "Lazy Mary," it's a nice tradition like "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" in Balmer.
  4. Rather than double in size, make branch hall of fames in big cities like New York, Chicago or Los Angeles.
  5. I signed up anyhow. If I'm selected I could get tickets for one of youse.
  6. No point in my entering for this year.
  7. Toronto fans would probably like being able to make minor league road trips sans border crossings. Why are Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Quebec and Winnipeg lacking professional baseball teams? For that matter, Montreal would make a great minor league city.

To perfectly honest, if the voters are having a really tough time picking between Wright, Reyes, and Beltran, I think I like that even better than if any one of them gets the MVP.

  10. I can't wait until the Braves and Yankees make this thread.
  11. DocTee wrote: A colleague of mine tells this apocryphal tale: While driving from Maine to Florida for Spring Break, he was pulled over for speeding in Georgia. An ornery patrolman told him "nobody goes through our state that fast." "Sherman did" came his reply....that night he was the guest of the local sheriff. I assume by "guest" you mean "detained in jail cell" and not invited over for roast beef and red wine.
  12. When Encarnacion was on the Tigers I saw him play a game versus the Red Sox at Fenway. He made the mistake of scratching his buttocks and for the rest of the game the fans in the center field bleachers chanted "Juan's got an itchy butt." That's what I think of any time I here his name. I hope his eye is okay and he heals quickly.
  13. ="Johnny Dickshot"] I love you, man!!!!
  14. Can I get some Triple Happiness love? Mets 3, Braves 2 Devil Rays 8, Yankees 2 Additionally: Marlins 7, Phillies 6 Red Sox 3, Orioles 2 And this is the third game of a sweep.
  15. I think that's from a bumper sticker.
  16. Edgy DC wrote: Vets of Kennasaw Mountain will tell you Sherman didn't take Atlanta undefeated. No they won't. They're all dead by now.
  17. The four seasons of Pennsylvania: Early Winter, Winter, Late Winter and Construction.
  18. Back in 1999 when I thought the Mets might actually win the division or beat the Braves in the NLCS, I thought up this idea for an (obnoxious) sign to bring to the ballpark. IN 1864 THE YANKEES BURNT ATLANTA. THIS YEAR IT'S THE METS TURN. Never got to make/use that sign. I'm more mature now.
  19. Frayed Knot wrote: ="SteveJRogers"]Apparently he was drafted as the compensitory pick for Pedro Martinez! Which will be mis-interpreted by Met fans to mean that he would be a Met if not for the Pedro signing even though it was not a Met pick but rather a supplemental pick. The frequency that this mistake gets repeated will vary with the future success of Buchholz's career. Just to be the devil's advocate, in a situation where the Mets had a better pick than the Red Sox could they actually have picked this Buchholz. I'm not arguing the argument you say people will argue, I'm just saying it could happen.
  20. Oh yeah, sorry for that. You know I didn't mean it. I brought you some flowers.
  21. Elster88 wrote: Say you're sorry, too, Willets. Sorry for what? I knew they could sweep the Braves if they played their best.
  22. Thank you Mets. I should write open letters to you more often. Keep up the good work. All you need to do is keep winning and the division is yours!
  23. Where's the broom man?
  24. Doesn't matter. One more out and the sweep is ours.
  25. Jeesh, I feel like I'm minutes behind you all.
