  2. Edgy DC wrote: The continued collapse of St. Louis --- accellerated by the Reds, of all people --- is amazing And very pleasing as well.
  3. TheOldMole wrote: I only left one game early in my life. It was a Giants-Eagles game. My girl friend's boss had given us the tickets, and she wasn't that interested in football, so to be genlemanly, I suggested leaving with about a minute and a half to go. The game was all but over, anyway. All Pisarcik had to do was fall on the ball three times...... Here's what you missed Mole.

  5. Heh-heh, his name is Orel.
  6. Baseball Reference's Stat of the Day Blog wows me again by compiling Team W/L in games with 5 or fewer hits in 2007. Second place over all with 7 wins in games where the team had 5 or fewer hits are your New York Mets. And the team with the fewest loses when they had 5 or fewer hits? Once again, your New York Mets with 7 losses. So the Mets are 7-7 when they have five or fewer hits which is pretty Amazin'.
  7. Good old General Smoltz.
  8. So I take it this movie will be set some time in the 1950's when Indiana Jones is approximately the same age that Harrison Ford is now? Not that Ford/Jones have ever had a 1-to-1 age matchup since that would make Indiana Jones 42 in 1935, 39 in 1936, and 47 in 1938.
  9. Yancy Street Gang wrote: I don't think Shea should be demolished. It should just ascend into heaven. Interesting comment from someone who has stated he's an atheist. Perhaps Yancy just believes in the baseball gods?
  10. Ageist. She still looks good. And she's been in plenty of movies since Raiders of the Lost Ark. IMDB.
  11. 6 more weeks, give or take.
  12. Yo La Tengo at Shea would bring me, my wife, and child, so that's 3 tickets tight there!
  13. I'm actually pretty strict about not leaving a game except for "emergency" reasons like the kids are tired, or someone in your party is sick, or you need to be somewhere else. The actual state of the game should have no bearing on when you leave The only game I can remember leaving early is a Red Sox game when I was in grad school. Since I couldn't bring my backpack to the ballpark I left it in my locker at school, knowing that the academic building was open until midnight. But since this was a Red Sox game, it of course went later than midnight so I had to leave early. Keith Foulke actually blew a save of a brilliant Curt Schilling start, so I figured I wouldn't miss much anyhow. You can check out Baseball Reference to see exactly what I missed.
  14. I think Bob Murphy dodged a bullet.

  16. Bor-ing! Really, the Yankees have kept more deserving teams out of the postseason for far too long. The sooner they're out of contention the better. And then all the attention can be focused squarely where it belongs - on the Mets.
  17. I think Sept. 11th will be commemorated this way until a bigger and eviler atrocity occurs, so imho I hope they keep commemorating Sept. 11th forever.
  18. Nymr83 wrote: the crop of free agent pitchers is very weak this year Too bad Mets management didn't take that into consideration LAST offseason. The "overpriced" FA pitchers available then may look cheaper from a cost-benefit perspective of trying to patch together a rotation for 2008 and beyond.
  19. Yancy Street Gang wrote: We have to accept that, despite how promising things started out, the Yankees are in the playoffs yet again this year. The thought that they probably won't go in as a division winner is of no comfort. Especially when they hoist the World Series trophy and the fawning media portrays them as underdogs who overcame adversity to win it all.
  20. Edgy DC wrote: It shouldn't affect the Mets at all at this point. Their destiny is so completely in their able hands. Finally a Cranepooler speaking some sense.

Not a bad thing to be. seawolf17 Sep 10 2007 07:49 PM Unless you're taking the piss. Zvon Sep 10 2007 07:56 PM Just saw that catch by Beltraan. Johnny Dickshot Sep 10 2007 09:20 PM Fun game and my 6th win vs. 0 losses this year at Shea. Don't ask me how I did it. Thought Wright's HR was a sac fly (that was all I was actually hoping for) and that Alou'd tripler was a foul ball. So much for my perspective. Was trying to figure out how many consecutive grounballs to 2nd when LoDuca interupted. Big play: The Pickoff of Hudson. Hudson had to be the very last guy in the Stadium who saw that play unfold. It was like slow motion. Meet the Matts came by. Those guys are funny, or at least look funny. Greg W. Fear came by, and just in time to rescue a conversation between my brother and me that had ground to a halt over our inability to remember what Gin Blossoms song was written by Marshall Crenshaw. We'd recalled all their hits except... Greg came up with it. Though I think he called it: "Till You Hear it from Me." We knew what he meant. Good job. Then as we walked to the 7, guys behind us sung Let's Go Mets Go (teamwork to make the dream work) and we joined in. Good win. G-Fafif Sep 10 2007 09:47 PM Johnny Dickshot wrote: Greg W. Johnny Dickshot Sep 11 2007 08:24 AM I forgot to mention the most important thing. National anthem sung by Randy Jackson of Zebra. That is the 2nd time I've been at the same Met game when Randy sings the NA. Both times I rooted for him to break into "who's behind the door" but he didn't. Centerfield Sep 11 2007 08:47 AM Is there a time delay in Val's apartment? Edgy DC Sep 11 2007 09:02 AM I think the music world needs a fourth Randy Jackson. That way, they could tour as the Randy Jacksons. Valadius Sep 11 2007 10:52 AM CF - kind of. My internet speed is pretty much pre-historic, and I'm trying to get Comcast to come back and fix it. "High-Speed Internet" it is not. seawolf17 Sep 11 2007 11:09 AM ="Edgy DC"]I think the music world needs a fourth Randy Jackson. That way, they could tour as the Randy Jacksons. "I'm not dead! I can play drums!" Edgy DC Sep 11 2007 12:06 PM I think Randy Jackson of the Jacksons is your drummer, along with Idol-dog on drums and Zebra-boy on guitar.
