  1. Wow. Vientos strikes out swinging a a pitch that hits him in his right shin. This team creates ways to look bad.
  2. Not today. McLean should be fine. He's getting behind hitters and people are sitting on the fastball. Unlike the Mets lineup, they are hitting it hard.
  3. What's the over/under that the Mets end up with more hits than the Reds do runs?
  4. Turn out the lights, the parties over..
  5. Now a no doubter by Bleday and the Reds lead 3-0. Barring a miracle, that's game over.
  6. Morabito is hitless in 8 at bats with 7 strike outs. Also 0-1 in stolen base attempts.
  7. Well, this game is very quickly getting out of hand. With this offense, 2 runs with 8 innings to play almost seems insurmountable.
  8. Well, now he gets to face the Mets line up, without Soto, which seems to help almost any opposing pitcher's numbers.
  9. I have resigned myself to the expectation that this team will be lucky to make it to 82 wins. I will be shocked with anything beyond that. I will continue to watch them, but I doubt it will be as often as it has been to this point.
  10. Since they had a challenge left, there was nothing to lose in giving it a shot. The Mets need to use their ABS Challenges in high leverage situations with men in scoring position or when the game is on the line, as it was in the ninth inning today. For every game like today's, where the Mets failed to use their challenges, there is another game in which Mets hitters "wasted" their challenges with 2 out and nobody on in the second or third innings. If a hitter is going to use a challenge in a low leverage situation, then they best be damn sure they are correct.
  11. Not surprisingly, the Mets haven't hit a grand slam this season. Of course it is difficult to hit a grand slam when the team seldom has 3 men on base in an inning (let alone all at the same time) and the team doesn't hit well with men in scoring position (or any other time).
  12. Soto scratched from todays lineup with the flu. There hies our offense.
  13. I thought about watching this game, but opted to enjoy some time outdoors and enjoy nature. So glad I chose to do something constructive with my day.
  14. Getting back to the actual subject of this thread, Nick Morabito. It is a small sample size, but he seems overmatched at the MLB level. In 7 plate appearances, he has 6 strike outs. Looking at his minor league stats he seems to have an issue with a high strike out rate (40 Ks in 146 ABs this season & career 316 Ks in 1268 ABs) throughout his minor league career. It is difficult to hit consistently when you strike out 25% of your at bats. That is a lot for any hitter, but unacceptable for a hitter with minimal power. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that he is not making much contact with the step up to the major league level.
  15. We need Tong to pitch better with the Mets than he has thus far this season for Syracuse. He has a 2-3 records in 9 starts and 38 innings for Syracuse. He has 55 K's which is great, but 24 walks is not so good. He is sporting a 5.68 ERA and 1.368 WHIP while allowing 1.9 HR/9 IP. Hopefully, he finds command during his time with the Mets.
  16. If the Mets were to further honor Carter, I believe option #4, #5, or #10 are the best options. Any one of them should be enough of a gesture to honor his legacy.
  17. I believe he was inducted into the NY Mets Hall of Fame a season or two prior to his being elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. He also in the Expos Hall of Fame and the Expos retired his number 8.
  18. Kodai Senga is set to take the mound for Single-A affiliate St. Lucie tomorrow. The Mets could really use a Senga in the rotation, if he can get back to being able to give 5 good innings every 5-6 days. I just don't know what to expect with Senga. Throughout his career, Senga has either been wonderful or terrible, with little between to two extremes. Here is hoping he is healthy and we get "good" Senga back in the near future.
  19. Since I couldn't see the game and it was 93 degrees outside, I spent the day cleaning out the garage. I checked in on my computer with MLB Gameday app. The Mets really needed to win today and get the series split. Glad to see that Bichette appears to have figured what his bat is for. I kept saying that I wasn't worried about him, because he has (virtually) always hit. Then after his slump kept dragging on, I found I was starting to doubt that he would snap out of his funk. Relieved to see that he is showing signs of life and giving hope for his offensive resurgence. Hopefully, it continues.
  20. I just don't understand the outrage that some people have over this. Gary Carter had a great career and justifiably is enshrined in Cooperstown. He is correctly enshrined as a Montreal Expo, because that is where he established himself as a star and spent the bulk of his career. He played 5 seasons with the Mets; 2 of which were very good and just happened to coincide with the Mets World Series Champs of 1986. Timing is everything, I believe that had Carter's two very good seasons not been during the Mets championship run there would not be such a fuss over his number 8 being worn. If they want to end such issues, the team should just retire his number. I however, do not feel his overall career as a Met warrants such consideration and I personally am not a big fan of "moth balling" uniform numbers.
  21. Santucci definitely needs to improve his command and cut down on his walks. The fact that his K rate is still >9 per 9 innings is a good indication that he has good stuff. Developing a dependable third pitch to go with his 4 seamer and wipe out slider would greatly enhance his chances of becoming a successful starter at the MLB level.
  22. The Mets really need to score some runs early to help out Thornton in his MLB debut. The team needs this win to continue their recent momentum.
  23. Last season one of the things the Mets excelled at was getting huge running leads to steal second base. This year, they are getting picked off first base instead. I know the biggest issue this season has been lack of hitting and injuries, but I definitely preferred our base coaches last season (Anton Richardson & Mike Sarbaugh) as compared to the current tandum (Gilbert Gomez & Tim Leiper).
