  1. Dogs can kick cats' collective asses from here to next week.
  2. I read an interview with Seaver a few months ago where he mentioned a poem from an 11-year-old hanging in his den. Touching, really.
  3. Steve, I'd be interested in the Hernandezes and the McReynoldses. Shoot me a PM.
  4. I think Sharpie's right, but if they decide to DFA him, then he's dealable, right?
  5. Let's not get too worked up over Damion Easley. If the Mets have to cut him, they cut him or deal him for an A-level prospect. He's basically Joe McEwing; nice, but expendable. I would love to see Piazza come back as a catcher, and then you keep Castro on the roster as a third catcher so you can use Piazza to PH. The Cubs signed two second basemen already (Soriano and DeRosa), so Lugo wouldn't fit at second there. But I'd take him at second for us over Valentin.
  6. That's a great story! When I was a kid, I thumbed through the Baseball Encyclopedie (ah, the days before the Internet) and found all the players with whom I shared a birthday. I wrote to all the active guys, but the only guy who sent me anything back was Nick Capra: Great, great story. Thanks for the link.
  7. For what it's worth, Michael Tucker doesn't have his own card, but he is Metly on this 2006 Topps Update card:
  8. Boy, I hate that argument. You know how many kids come into my office or stop by our table at college fairs thinking they're jumping to the NBA or the NFL out of college? Literally hundreds. How many of them have made it? I'd bet zero. So this whole "make more money in the other sports" thing is hooey, Steve, so don't fall for it. There are probably hundreds more young people making money -- minor league money, but still money -- playing baseball than there are playing other sports. If baseball isn't growing, then where is all this money coming from? I don't think the Seibu Lions accepted $51 million worth of smoke from John Henry and his crew. And I don't think George Steinbrenner pays his employees in mirrors. I'm not saying there isn't a big market/small market disparity, but to "blame" other sports for whatever perceived problems you think baseball has is crap.
  9. Once again, you can't assume that the morons on sports-talk radio are representative of the larger sports-fan body of an area.
  10. Gotta figure Philly's attendance spike comes from the spanking-new ballpark.

    Glavine

    Glavine

Nymr83 wrote: Eaton gets hurt alot, thats still a deal i'd have signed though. Hey, if someone wants to give me that kind of money for three years to do my job, I'd sign that too. I look forward to Eaton racking up a 2-7, 6.48 kind of line against the Mets in the next three years. (Kindly ignore the three gems he pitched against us in '00, '01, and '04.)

    Glavine

I would not be against hating Tom Glavine again.
  14. I'm guessing that's how Edgy posts stories from every newspaper you've never heard of across the country.
  15. I can hit bullseyes sidearm, but I'm worthless overhand. I'm the Chad Bradford of the dart kingdom.
  16. [/url] Lance Berkman, J.C. Romero, and the slightly larger David Segui.

  18. What JD said. Yikes.
  19. Johnny Dickshot wrote: MFY fans ("Probably the worst choice in the history of the award" ... right, on, Kirk Gibson...) have already decided it's a conspiracy and forgotten their own guy got an MVP a year ago and they spent the year booing him. First of all, F MFY fans (except you, Silver). Second, you're totally right, JD; except that A-Rod isn't "their own guy," remember? But Jeets is.
  20. Who gives a crap? F Jeter. What was so hot shit about his season? He hit .343? Who cares? BA sucks. He was second in the league in runs? I didn't see Grady Sizemore get any MVP support, and Sizemore's numbers kicked Jeter's numbers up and down the field. His primary qualification is that he'd never won an MVP before, which is bullshit. Again... F Jeter. Congrats to Justin Morneau.
  21. And Edgy decides his own suggestion is a bad idea, apparently.

    Alou

Nymr's right. One year, sounds good. If we get what he gave San Fran last year (375 AB, 22 HR), I'm okay with that.
  23. Only that he's dealing two young hard-throwing pitchers. I would have liked to have seen Owens get a shot. As much as I liked Lindstrom, I don't know that he was ever going to harness his arm; and he'll be 27 years old in February. Vargas basically replaces Ring on the depth chart, but he's four years younger. Good deal, I think.
  24. BOOOOO. I voted for Reyes. But that might make that Ryan Howard autographed baseball card I pulled a few months ago from a pack bump up in value a bit.
  25. Seven voters, seven different places for Chris Woodward.
