  1. ESPN.com is having a "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" contest, where the winner gets to marry "the bachelorette" or something. You can vote here (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/notebook?page=bbtn/takemeout), and the nominees include Branford Marsalis, resplendent in his bright blue Mets cap. http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/video/video?id=3461060
  2. You pitch differently in the first inning when you're trying to stretch out over six or seven innings... maybe you don't show your third pitch or whatever. But if Pedro can come in there, change speeds effectively for an inning, he could be dominant. He certainly has the repertoire.
  3. I'm not saying they forego offense entirely. I'm saying a current version of John Olerud would be much more desirable than a current version of, say, Mo Vaughn or Carlos Delgado. Teixeira would be fine; so would a Casey Kotchman-type.
  4. Vince Coleman Firecracker wrote: ="attgig"]I think it's time to promote him to AAAA He was already there. He had an 800 OPS. Yeah, but ベニー and 移籍した李に次ぐ第4の外国人扱いながら腐. He did have 8 月, 17日の西, and 28歳と若く.
  5. Get me Rey Ordonez and John Olerud! Seriously, though, that's an issue, and it's one that's not going away because of the fact that the infield is all locked up. They're going to have to muddle through it and get someone who can pick it at first for 2009.
  6. I've actually long been a proponent of Pedro being a short man or closer. Let him go out there and give you a dynamite inning or two in a big spot every other day instead of getting lit up every fifth day. It's a tough transition, but he certainly has the stuff for it, just like Smoltz did.
  7. Delgado 6 Pelfrey 1 Beltran 1 Castillo 2
  8. Holy schmoleys, Game Day is freaking me out. The 3D thing is neat.
  9. I like this Wright kid. Gonna be a good player.
  10. Shouldn't the Mets have called up Jonathan Niese to pitch against Dan Giese? That would have been cool.
  11. 12. Not for nothing, but it looks like MiniWolf is going to go the Rickey Henderson bats-right-throws-left route, which is exciting for his draft prospects in 2024.
  13. Aren't these the same d-bags who didn't want to play on the off-day Monday after the original rainout? Shut up, asshole. And what the hell?!? You're not even pitching today, dickwad! God, I hate professional athletes. You don't want your job? Then fucking quit. Go back to Bumbleass, PA with your goats, count your money, and shut the hell up. Urgh.
  14. AG/DC wrote: I did some digging on him. Correct spelling is "Nestor Chylack." Funny thing is that his colleague Durwood Merrill wrote a book called You're Out! ...and You're Ugly Too! (har!), in which he regularly spelled it "Shylock." Extra funny that you spelled it wrong there too.
  15. Maine 4 Wright 3 Reyes 3
  16. Paul Runge, another name confusion guy.
  17. KC wrote: Buccaneers beating the Dolphins by two touchdowns, 14-sniffle. Which sucks, because I had the Dolphins' D on my fantasy team this week.
  18. Maybe David should just play every other day.
  19. Bruce Froemming, the elder statesman of umpires.
  20. Love it.
  21. No! Wait! I meant Edgy! Sorry, SK!
  22. themetfairy wrote: You should have invited her to post here, of course. Naked. (Her, not you.)
  23. Maybe that's why I remembered him. (Or it's because I've looked it up and have his autograph on my wall.)
  24. I would love an Omar watch! I'd always know what time it was on his planet.
  25. Dutch Rennert, home plate umpire at the first MLB game I ever attended.
