  1. Probably, but from everything I read after Harris signed, he was all but assured of making the team.
  2. Not for nothing, but I totally called it. seawolf17 wrote: I wouldn't have spent that kind of money on him. Just wait until this guy goes off the deep end and beats up his father-in-law or something. We'll all be calling to have his contract voided.
  3. A friend posted this story on FB, but clearly picked the wrong photo from the link to go along with it.
  4. Haven't sent it yet; only got his address the other day. I'm so close to 700 autographs I can taste it. That's a 2001 Topps Traded card (T80), hence the updated text but no updated stats.
  5. metirish wrote: Donnie fucking Wall, how did I forget him? Pretty easily. Iwas surprised to find a Mets card for him. I only thought of him because I looked up that card yesterday for my autograph project.
  6. Like another hook-nosed midwestern lefty here in New York at 24: 21-8, 3.87, an all-star appearance, second place in the Cy Young balloting, and even a few MVP votes.
  7. metirish wrote: He looks like a former Met, not coming to me though.
  8. The problem is that you know that ball bounced off the heel of his fucking glove, allowing the runner on second to come all the way around third and score. Fuckin' hell.
  9. Dear God! He's enormous! They make the foil layer on the cards more or less because they've done it for so long (since 1992) that they have to keep doing it. Maybe I'm just used to it, because it doesn't bother me at all; I like the look.
  10. I will likely have extra Mets team sets very soon, if anyone wants one. I bought into a case break, so I should have a bunch of doubles. The Series 1 team set, for what it's worth, is: 15 David Wright 56 Johan Santana 66 R.A. Dickey 119 Jason Bay 129 Lucas Duda 147 Jon Niese 156 Josh Thole 157 Mets team card (features Reyes/Pagan in flight) 203 Dillon Gee 207 Angel Pagan 290 Ike Davis I'll trade for anything you have no need for, especially sparklies.
  11. Get any of the sparkly inserts? I'm thinking about working on that set.
  12. Probably my favorite in-person Shea moment. I can still picture everything about the scene; where we were, how the stadium was shaking.
  13. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Pettitte hanging them up. This will lead to an endless, and nauseating, debate about whether or not he's a HoFer. I'll end the debate by saying he's not. That pretty much settles it for me. Let's break for lunch.
  14. Valadius wrote: You know, I just took a look at this, and I'm disappointed to see that we're not at home on September 21. ??
  15. I am definitely breaking out SOM tonight.
  16. I really want to go to the 50th anniversary shindig they're throwing in NYC on 2/12, but I can't figure out how to let Ms. Wolf let me go.
  17. Chad Ochoseis wrote: R.A. Dickey debuts successfully! Angel Pagan initiates a triple play! Angel Pagan hits an inside the park home run! Mets lose! That would be one. The last, which nobody got, was Ike Davis's third game-winning extra-inning RBI of the season in mid-August.
  18. No on all of those. First missing one (the second) featured a feat that happened for the first time in 55 years; the other (the last one) celebrated the third 2010 occurrence of an unusually specific stat, and there's no way you figure it out.
  19. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: The 20-inning fuckfest vs. St. Loius That'd be the first, chronologically, of the four. Point JCL. Ceetar wrote: Ike Davis' railflip trifecta? Chad Ochoseis wrote: NL's best interleague record? Edgy DC wrote: Six distinct and separate former Mets died in 2010... if you count Jane Jarvis. All wonderfully pathetic highlights, but none of them single-game and therefore apparently ineligible for Topps' list. Although Ike is involved in the last one.
  20. It's not like their financial issues were some big secret... I'm sure it came up in the interview process.
  21. Ceetar wrote: The gooseegg sweep of the stupid phillies? Nope.
  22. Dickey's one-hitter on August 13th is the third, chronologically, of the highlights. Point for Val. Wright is nowhere to be found on the card.
  23. In addition to the team leaders (Jon Niese led the Mets in K's?!?!?), the back of the Mets team card this year features four bullet point "highlights" from games in 2010. What are they?
  24. Yay! 2011 Topps is out! Bad: Fourth and fifth cards out of my first pack, back to back: Jeter and A-Rod. Bad: Only two Mets. Good: The two Mets were: http://twitpic.com/3v941n Back of the Mets team card features four "season highlights." Quiz time.
  25. Because you can get sweet tickets AND first dibs on Julia Stiles. (Well, third dibs behind Fred and Jeff. But whatever.)
