  1. There's a note from his wife on his personal FB page, so I'd say that sounds like a confirmation.
  2. Has passed away, according to Mark Healey. No other confirmation anywhere. http://twitter.com/#!/BaseballDigest9/statuses/73747981609865218 He was coordinating that Mets conference next summer, no?

Mets records for Mets records sake. And the winning -- that would be nice, too. yeah. I don't really mean it as a Yankee comparison. I've been watching their hits flip flop for a while now, and the idea that you could've a friendly 'race' to Kranepool and to 1500 and to 2000 with the fun-loving left side of the infield for years to come has to be marketing gold no? I envision a Sosa-McGwire type race to 2000 in 3-4 years with them having fun with it. Wright joking that Reyes has the advantage because he bats first. Reyes snipes back with "You have more WS hits though!" Yeah! That! Come on, Mets. Don't be a dick. Just effin' sign these guys.
  4. "Won't retire #7, eh? We'll fucking see about that."

  6. I like voting for all Mets in the NL and the worst players on the ballot in the AL.
  7. I don't think he would have been in my top 50 guesses. edit: Wow, he leads them in every category. Wins, losses, games started (third in games, behind Quiz and Jeff Montgomery), IP, hits allowed, runs allowed. Second in CG & SHO behind Dennis Leonard.

Fred's dead right on that one. David's a really good player and I like him and want to keep him but not a superstar. Not yet anyway. The Carlos thing I'd mildly disagree with but I understand why he said it and why he feels it. LALALALALALALA I AM NOT LISTENING LALALALALALALA
  9. YOUR Stony Brook Seawolves (41-10, 22-2) play for the America East championship this week. Could be a very wolfy MLB draft this year, methinks: Nick Tropeano -- 11-1, 1.91 in 13 starts. 85 IP, 57 H (.189 BA), 21 BB, 107 K Tyler Johnson -- 9-2, 1.66 in 12 starts. 70 2/3 IP, 56 H (.220 BA - 11 doubles, the rest singles), 15 BB, 56 K Brandon McNitt -- 7-2, 1.73 in 9 starts. 73 IP, 61 H -- also has three saves
  10. I've always said that I'd love for just one day to be able to have Greg's incredible mind and writing talents.
  11. soupcan wrote: Saul Katz will be played by Wallace Shawn in the movie. Inconceivable!
  12. I thought it was Fred who claimed to have the balls.
  13. batmagadanleadoff wrote: One possibility is that Fred's comments were very calculated, and purposely designed to eventually push his stars to other teams. Perhaps Fred crunched the financials and already knows without doubt, that which we fans still hope isn't true -- that the Mets won't be able to afford to re-sign either Reyes or Wright, no matter how things break. Just one theory. I hat this organization.
  14. Well, yes, except that he's the rich guy who signs the checks, and therefore the single most important guy who determines what happens with this franchise that we allegedly love, despite the fact that they kick us in the collective nuts every chance they get.
  15. Is he really on the cover of their yearbook?!?! That's fecking insane.
  16. Willie Randolph Rickey Henderson
  17. I love you, Pedro Beato.

Also... there are actual Marlins fans? Really? Obviously I don't know how well he's moving right now, but yes, I probably would have. You don't need a triple in that spot; all you need to do is get the ball out of the infield. And between Harris lefty-lefty, an injured David Wright, and Chin-Lung Hu, I choose Wright. And yes; startlingly many, actually. All over the place. lots of RAMIREZ 2s, but STANTON 27s and even JOHNSON 55s.
  19. soupcan wrote: He always hustles and follows my rules without question. I can never have enough of that type of kid. The type of kid who can rot on the bench while I play my own son over him and his parents won't bitch at me.

Carlos Beltran 511 All time Mets leaders in Hits No one's catching Ed Kranepool any time soon, but Cleon Jones' perch in the number 2 slot is under assault. 1. Ed Kranepool 1418 2. 22. So glad I went all the way in and sat in the rain for this. A few thoughts: * So many seemingly ill-advised decisions by Collins last night: Pinch-hitting Hu (yes, Harris sucks, but Hu is worse -- screw the L/R matchup), taking O'Connor (who was dealing) out, bunting Bay (HE'S YOUR EFFING CLEANUP HITTER), etc. * If Wright wasn't available last night, then you needed someone there. You can't play short a roster spot. Looks like Bing and Buffalo were both far out of town last night (New Hampshire and Indianapolis, respectively), but still. And if Wright's there, shouldn't you hit him for Harris in the 9th? Or at least put him in the on-deck circle just for gamesmanship? Maybe? * Huge section (20-25 guys) of dickhead Marlins fans started getting noisy and obnoxious in the left field corner last night. Got kicked out of the stadium in the middle of the ninth. Argh.
