  1. I love error cards. Don't know who it is, but it ain't Geren.
  2. Think we could get Joe Nathan on a low-end, 1 yr/$5 mil kind of deal as a stopgap/mentor to Parnell/whoever? That'd be awesome. He's 37 next month and coming off an injury-marred off year, so I have to assume he can't be thinking too huge. (I can neither confirm or deny my relationship with Mr. Nathan at this time.)
  3. Revive the venerable old tradition this winter? I'll coordinate.

  5. Gwreck wrote: Wow. That Verlander is pretty good. Can we overpay him instead? Just sneak him out of Detroit under the cover of night. Nobody will even notice he's gone.
  6. I doubt we'll see Valdespin just to sit on the bench, but the rest of that is probably pretty close to accurate.
  7. $45 for parking outside YSIII, sez my friend on FB.
  8. Can't believe it took security so long to take her down. Maddox with the weak grounder to third to end the first. Waste of a roster spot, I still say. Reeks of Yankee to me.

  10. Postgame he was even worse, contradicting himself mid-sentence. "You can't spend all that money on Reyes, because you need that money to address the pitching. But look at the Yankees and Red Sox; they couldn't buy pitching. So you can't buy pitching; you need to develop pitching." Then I guess we can use that money on Jose, right? I don't get it.
  11. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Here's a season that ends with a crisp shutout and a (potential) batting title by a longtime favorite player, and the Mets find a way to give it a sour taste. Nice going! This is the kind of thing that makes me say to myself, "I'm 48 years old. Why do I care about this shit?" Not much easier at 35, believe me.
  12. That's kinda horseshit reasoning, no? You're in charge, Terry.
  13. Gotta save that bullpen for April.
  14. Batista 6 Baxter 3 Reyes 0.5 Satin 0.5
  15. Ah, get out of here, tainted. Did he reach the AB minimum? Then we're good. He's not the first guy to be pulled before the end of the season to "preserve" a statistical milestone or achievement, nor will he be the last. I'm not saying it wasn't a disappointment -- but that, for me, entirely stems from it being potentially his last game with the franchise, not because of a batting title.

This , the Mets are spectacularly good at it. Which is strange. It suggests that they're not over-concerned with the fan's perception, nor under-concerned. They're just tremendously tone-deaf. (Or they have a fickle fan base, which is probably true enough also.) You'd figure it should be easy enough to fix with a some professional development in the PR department. A retreat or something. It's the tone-deafness. They think their fan base wants to say that one of their guys has a batting championship far more than they want to watch that guy win the batting championship. It's wanting so much to stage the applause moment of the star being pulled from the final game that they do it too soon and step all over that moment. I'm with FK on this.
  17. dgwphotography wrote: Just on principle, I want Braun to go 3 for 3 tonight... Edgy DC wrote: Thinking the same thing. Wouldn't mind Kemp going 7-7, as well. That's kinda dooshy, no? You root for your team, and our guy, who we've all been fellating all year. Let one good thing -- a batting title -- happen for this fecking team. Screw Ryan Braun. I hope the Brewers play eighteen innings and he goes 0-for-8 with 8 Ks.
  18. Edgy DC wrote: Oh, I see them clashing. Hanley being asked to bunt. Refusing. Ozzie calling him a macaque in the press. Shit like that. We'll see. Well, we might just wind up with a hole at short. We'll take him.
  19. Firmly in the "no idea" camp, just like dgw.
  20. Edgy DC wrote: Really, he had so much equity in Chicago. How'd he blow it all? And does this foreshadow LaRussa going back to Chicago? 2005 was a long time ago. My guess is that his act got old.
  21. Edgy DC wrote: I'm not sure why I've been quote above there. We haven't mentioned it in a while, but in light of Darryl's comments, it's worth reviewing that Reyes can still take the money and run without leaving New York, if you get my drift. And I think you do. I would probably quit baseball if he wound up with the Phillies or Yankees.
  22. MFS62 wrote: At his current rate, Parnell can catch Mariano's saves number in only another 120 years. No sweat. He'll get 'im. Later Could you imagine how many saves Bobby Parnell could blow in 120 years?!? Holy moley.
  23. They went through a Chicago phase in the 80s too; lots of Wrigley (and I'm assuming Comiskey) shots.
  24. It's too bad the season's almost over, because "Sitting Behind Kevin Burkhardt Talking On A Banana" would be a funny regular thing.
