  1. CPF Parody Tourney 2011-12 In the interest of speed and time, I'll randomize the list of names and dates and post them in the next post later today. Rules: Each participant starts with a list of five Met-related personalities; you're matched up against one other participant, bracket-style, and you each have to pick one of those participants and write a song parody about your person. One combatant opens a poll thread and posts his/her tune; the second post in the thread is held for the opponent. Then we vote; the winner absorbs the loser's unused players (giving them a total of eight to choose from after the first round, for example) and moves on. For reference, our last challenge was in Spring 2009: viewforum.php?f=18 Let's do this.
  2. Arte Moreno has Jeffrey Loria Disease.
  3. If this was the good old days when the Mets had money, I'd take Hunter's last year.
  4. Who the hell is Rhiner Cruz? Adam Rubin's posting that he's likely to be lost too.
  5. To Anaheim for ten years, sez the internets. Wow.
  6. I'd read that the first time to offer four years would get him; Loria's gone bazonkers.
  7. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I think this will be resolved by the Marlins throwing a few million dollars at Hanley in one guise or another. Or maybe they'll have to eat the bulk of his salary and trade him to the Mets. They can have Pelf.
  8. Vic Sage wrote: i don't have a problem with Sandy taking the entire organizational roster (including the minors) and saying to every GM "what'll you give me for THIS guy? what about THIS guy? and THIS guy?" [Maybe he could find a taker for Jeffy?] I just think that Ike, as a productive, cheap, young player with power and GG ability, is a guy you should either demand a lot for or hold on to. I don't think Duda has anywhere near his upside. I'd sooner they moved Duda and find a real RFer than move Davis so Duda can play 1b, despite the fact that we'd likely get more in return for Davis (even coming off the injury). I just doubt it would be ENOUGH more. But no harm in finding out, i suppose. Agree. Doesn't hurt to ask around. All you need is one crazy person.
  9. Don't know that I'm interested in any of those offensive options, but there are a lot of arms there I'd take a flyer on.
  10. Nymr83 wrote: I'm very down on Big Pelf, I'd deal him for a reliever that I thought could help or a longshot prospect that someone else has given up on but the Mets think may still pan out. I'd trade him for a backup beer vendor.
  11. Vic Sage wrote: Maybe they actually thought they had a chance of resigning him, and didn't want to jeopardize that by dealing him then they're not venal, just stupid and incompetent. Because if $80m was going to be there maximum number, even those of us hanging around HERE knew that would never be enough. But I don't buy it; they saw the writing on the wall and just wanted to squeeze a few more sheckels out of us corn-fed hicks. Yup. Beltran and K-Rod, as talented as they are/were, were not -- if you'll excuse the phrase -- "True Mets." Wright and Reyes are the guys who they could keep selling as OUR guys for the last two months.
  12. Vic Sage wrote: with their money gone, The Wilpons may sell or trade the entire roster. Nah. Too many syllables in the last line. With their money gone The Wilpons may sell or trade All our favorite guys
  13. Edgy DC wrote: CAIN IN 2012! Making $15M in 2012. Doubt it. Although Cain-for-Wright would be intriguing. I wish there was a baseball Trade Machine on ESPN the way there's a basketball one.
  14. Benjamin Grimm wrote: David is aging Next pennant race is far off Trade now for some youth Well, there you go. I'm torn on this, but as a fan base, it's not like we could be madder. You might as well trade him now while we're already on the ground; gives us more time to learn to love the new guys.
  15. Edgy DC wrote: Number two active guy is... Pagan? Murphy? Pelfrey.
  16. SteveJRogers wrote: Kaat has a ton of MFY friends in the right low places (Kay for example). Especially using the "same or lesser" arguments with guys like Sutton, Niekro, Blyleven, etc Michael Kay is on the veterans' committee?!?!?!
  17. Edgy DC wrote: Kaat's kind of astonishing, no? I figured this was a three-man race among Hodges, Oliva, and Santo, with Minoso expected to be a respectable fourth. I'm disappointed in Hodges counted out, but I can accept an argument that places him behind Santo and Oliva. But Kaat? Kaat even came out himself and said he wasn't a HoFer; referred to himself as a number-three starter.

  19. Vic Sage wrote: on the one hand, it was sweet, corny, sentimental, entertaining ... but more for me and my wife than it was for my 11-year old son (who was bored but polite enough not to say so) or my 14-year old daughter (who wouldn't be caught dead going to this movie). My niece and nephew -- same age range -- hated it. It's for adults who get the injokes and sentimentality and cameos, and for little kids who like talking animals and goofy songs.
  20. Edgy DC wrote: I'm most interested in how they move on. When the Mets of yore lost Darryl Strawberry, they turned around and signed Vince Coleman. Bad, bad move.
  21. metsmarathon wrote: i console myself with this tought. if the marlins are going to go after pujols too, then it's likely that no matter the wilpon's financial situation, they would have been likely able to push the contract eventually to where we sandy would not want it to go. so maybe we never had a chance to begin with. it is little, bitter solace. fuck the mets. i'll probably change my mind come april, but really. fuck the mets. Yes, and yes. Nymr83 wrote: If Reyes had gotten away as a baseball decision ("he's always hurt, so we wont go past 4 years") it would be another story, but lets face it, this was all about Freddie Coupon who lost his money to Uncle Bernie and wants to take ours at the same ridiculous prices he charged when he was spending twice as much on the product on the field. The Mets, from everything I've seen, never made a real offer... go fuck yourself Wilpom, I wont be at Citifield next year. At all. Yes. bmfc1 wrote: Sandy said that the Mets lost $70 million last season. How is this possible? You own a) a baseball team in New York City. This isn't a baseball team in Paris or a Roller Derby team in New York. This is New York baseball! And they own a television network that shows the games. How incompetent are the Wilpons? Very. batmagadanleadoff wrote: This might turn out to be a good thing for the Mets. You never know. I mean, with hindsight, letting Strawberry leave after the '90 season turned out OK. So there's that. Agree, but only because I have to agree to justify continuing to wear the blue hat.
  22. metsguyinmichigan wrote: So much for the Mets getting a chance to match or beat the offer. They had all effing year. Screw the Wilpons.
  23. I remember how we didn't really like him so much, so we didn't give a crap when he signed a contact with another team. Unlike someone else we know, who can go eff himself.
  24. He is dead to me now.
  25. I was waiting for the Thanksgiving rock thing to be done. It'll be up this weekend.
