Still don't understand why it is some article of faith that everyone wants that. I kind of like the parade of substitutions. Gives everyone their minute in the sun.
  2. So if I'm reading this right, the other ROTJedi must be someone who's roughly the same age as Reyes, right? Blevins.
  3. The Final Conflict looks old enough to be Granderson.
  4. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Zvon's blog hasn't been updated since April 30. I hope he's okay. And hasn't FBed since May 3. Hmm.
  5. I really believed we'd come out of this series like YEAH HERE WE COME, NATS. So much for that.
  6. Goodness, we're scuffling right now, with the exception of the two Pirates. Majors: Koehler (Miami): Exiled to AAA, then returned and gave up seven runs in 1 2/3 innings over the weekend. Jankowski (San Diego): On the DL with a bone bruise; not expected back any time soon. 8-50 with 21 strikeouts. Tropeano (Angels): Will miss 2017 with TJS. Minors: Cantwell (AA Toronto): 5-34 with his two teams, now on the DL. Hasn't played since May 8. Krause (A+ Pittsburgh): .311/.406/.538 (!) with 6 HR in 119 AB. Zamora (A+ Pittsburgh): 7-8 in save opportunities; has only allowed three runs in 32 1/3 innings. (!) MacEachern (A Miami): 2-2, 4.15 in 21 2/3 innings out of the pen. Honahan (R MFYs): Gave up four runs in two innings in his first two relief outings. Indy: Tissenbaum (Quebec, Can-Am): .328/.428/586 with 6 HR in 128 AB. Campbell (Wichita, American Assoc): 1-0, 2.45 in 14 2/3 innings of relief. Parenty (Schaumburg, Frontier): .292/.320/.292 in 96 AB.

  8. MFS62 wrote: I don't know how difficult it was to research this but I heard on WFAN yesterday that deGrom's career ERA in games that start before 5 PM is the lowest in baseball over the past 100 years. It is around 1.60. Its around 6:30 PM, too late to call MLB and have the game moved up. But for future reference ... Later Hot damn. Good catch, MFS. Career, as per b-r: Night: 20-21, 4.88 in 58 starts Day: 17-4, 1.69 in 33 starts That difference is... night and day.
  9. Ceetar wrote: He signed on to be exploited. That's why he's there.. Absolutely. He can't play football any more, so he's doing what he can to keep in the public consciousness; both he and the Mets are getting exactly what they want out of this.
  10. I'm off today and Monday (and the rest of next week because fuck stress) and yes, I've already poured my first beer of the weekend after spending the morning throwing out three enormous garbage bags of crap out of the kids' rooms and the kitchen.
  11. YES YES YES ALL EMOTION AND NO BRAIN BUT YES YES YES
  12. Edgy MD wrote: Man, those humiliating 9-3 putouts are always a danger in the Babe Ruth Prep League. I nearly made the last out of my team's season on a 9-3 putout one year in Little League. Two out, bottom of the sixth of the first round of the playoffs, and I hit a blooper into very short right field and had just enough moxie to beat it out. (I've never been fast.)
  13. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: That's why they need Matt Harvey. I keep wavering as to whether a Harvey-Gausman trade would be worth it.
  14. And admittedly, the Astros are kind of like our sibling franchise anyway.
  15. My ennui of the Red Sox -- they've won enough, they're annoying -- as assuaged only by my Jim Rice fandom. (I had typed "hatred," but I don't really hate them, so I changed it.) Houston's too trendy. I do generally root for Cleveland and Minnesota to do well, and I'd like the Angels more if Nick Tropeano wasn't hurt. (I can like them next year.)
  16. Ashie62 wrote: Mattingly just wants his starters to go five. Yeesh. That was his mantra in the spring. Kinda sad, but then again, they didn't have much by way of starting pitching talent, despite their impressive academic pedigree.
  17. Yes, 1-16 in 1993, but also a 3.77 ERA, which was above league average (107 ERA+). Had a perfectly serviceable six-year MLB career, and judging by the obits, seemed to be a very good dude. My condolences to his family and friends.
  18. Nymr83 wrote: Trea Turner stole 2nd and 3rd. then he stole 2nd and 3rd again. we're in the 4th inning. anyone know the record offhand? Six in one game in the modern era, most recently by Carl Crawford in 2009, according to the internets.
  19. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: This Mark Vientos guy is a piece of work. Mark: I’d say my favorite players growing up were Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter. David Wright is also another one that I admire and is a great role model. TRADE HIM NOW
  20. Edgy MD wrote: On the other hand, maybe that's the favor: By selecting the players in the draft, the team makes them better recruitment bait and improves their college prospects. Plus, hey! Bonus! The Wilpons have to write one less check.
  21. smg58 wrote: Eh, he overreacted, and what's going on inside the foul lines isn't keeping people's attention. Maybe there was a lapse in diplomacy somewhere, but Cabrera's performance at short is such that he's more likely to draw interest from a contender looking for a second baseman. And his agent should know that, even if he doesn't. This will blow over, and Cabrera wasn't a good bet to still be a Met in August anyway. DAMMIT SMG STOP BEING SENSIBLE WE'RE TRYING TO OVERREACT HERE
  22. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: You forgot the stupid in "Asdrubal Cabrera is a Stupid Dickhead." Because whether the aim is to get traded to a better team situation or to make the Mets pick up your option, opening your mouth at this point doesn't exactly get you closer to either, does it? You'd think, right? Call Sandy a douchebag behind closed doors and make your demands, but tell him "I'll go out there, say the right things, and be a team guy on this, but you promise me you'll try to get me the hell out of here."
  23. Seriously. I thought it was a "taken out of context" thing, but he was pretty explicit. Don't let your league-leading error total hit you in the ass on the way out, friend.
  24. Lefty Specialist wrote: Well, if you're craving high draft picks, I have good news for you: Rafael Montero is starting Sunday. Good to know that nobody else in the org cares about winning games either.
  25. Centerfield wrote: I wonder how sports would be different if, instead of rewarding tanking, we gave the first overall pick to the team with the best record that missed the playoffs. And then went in order from there, with the playoff teams picking last. It would encourage teams to remain competitive throughout the entire season. That's why I liked Bill Simmons' NBA postseason tournament idea where the teams who didn't make the playoffs had to play for the first overall pick. I don't know that it'd have the same importance in MLB because of reasons everyone's mentioned, but I did like it for other sports.
