  1. Blue hats in four straight (Glavine had pinstripes too, for his Sunday night start vs. MFY)-- UMDB must be getting some good headshots this week.
  2. ]Some also boo Doug Mientkiewicz, which is sort of like booing your mom. ??
  3. Utley=Wright. Howard=Delgado.
  4. Lima's wife could be your mascot.
  5. Symmetry: The game lasted 5 hours and 22 minutes and featured 522 pitches. Cool.
  6. he needs more I just got home and didn't see the game, but a relief stint like that shoud be recognized
  7. where's the love for Darren Oliver??
  8. Candelaria still holds the school's all-time rebound record at NYC's LaSalle High.
  9. I believe acronyms HAVE to spell something, no? SCUBA and NAFTA are acronyms; CIA and FBI are not (they're just pricks). Thanks to George Carlin for that one.
  10. From the worldwide leader: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=gallo/060522&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab4pos3 4. I spent most of the last week in Los Angeles and happened to catch a few Dodgers games on TV, and -- wow -- I feel really bad for Dodgers fans. They have to listen to this play-by-play guy -- Vin something or other -- who is soooo old-fashioned. He doesn't have a bunch of catchphrases he forces into his calls, nor does he try to make himself out to be more important than the action on the field. He just calls the game as he sees it, with no bells or whistles at all. It was really quite annoying, as you no doubt can imagine. Thank God there aren't a lot of announcers like this Vin guy anymore. Quite frankly, I prefer my sports television the modern way: fame-hungry windbags screaming non sequitur catchphrases in the hope of getting more camera time. That's the way it's supposed to be.
  11. 22 May 1998: New York Mets traded Preston Wilson, Geoff Goetz and Ed Yarnall to the Florida Marlins for Mike Piazza.
  12. ]Amen. i hate taking out a pitcher who is cruising, you never so know what the next guy will have that night even if he's a better pitcher, and while i'm fine with taking out a bradford/feliciano/julio to give way to a sanchez/wagner theres no reason to take out Sanchez if he's just had an easy inning. Agreed. But what about preservation? Lifting Petey after six innings on a wet field so he doesn't get hurt? Making sure you have your star fresh for an upcoming series by lifting him in a blowout? Having Sanchez available for back-to-back games by limiting him to one inning on Saturday?
  13. A pop foul behind third is the shortstop's play.
  14. Maybe his duds are at the dry cleaner (MLB 2006 reference) or under Linda Cohn's bed (ESPN reference)?
  15. "He had it all going on. Fastball, slider, changeup. Both sides of the plate, up and down." -- Devil Rays manager Joe Maddon, on Scott Kazmir, who tossed eight shutout innings against the Marlins sigh
  16. If "you can't forget Atlanta" you gotta remember Anaheim (and Minnesota, too).
  17. Glavine: 4.5 Delgado: 2.5 Heilman: 1.0 Wright: 1.0 Reyes: .25 Wagner: .75 Reyes for his "D"
  18. Any news on Cliffy?
  19. ]I only count 3, maybe 4 good teams: Boston, White Sox, MFYs, (Tigers). Hardly the superior league. How many good squads you see in the NL?? I got Houston/St.Louis--Mets-- maybe Cincinnatti and Philly?
  20. Joe Morgan can barely contain his contempt for Kazmat-- whether it's referring to yesterday's failed DP ("Reyes did everything perfectly and I thought they'd get two") or his analysis of that pop double ("LoDuca came down the line but that's a play someone in the IF has to make") Maybe we should invite him to the CPF??
  21. Wells also said that Bonds' claim of ignorance was hollow. "Any professional athlete would examine what they ingest and the effect it has on their bodies" (paraphrase)-- well then, David, how do you account for that gut of yours?
  22. The A's are set at both Short and Third (Bobby Crosby and Eric Chavez).
  23. FWIW: 3 of the Mets last 4 losses have been by one run.
  24. That is one fitting-- and hilarious--post.
  25. The sky is not falling. If you told me on 1 April that the Mets would be in first on 20 May, despite: Beltran missing significant time Wagner blowing 4 (?) saves 2/5 of the starting rotation on the DL I'd be pretty damn surprised-- and happy. Let's get 'em tomorrow. NB-- this is not an apologia for WWSB-- he, not Billy the Kid, lost today's game.
