  1. Cool-- I just sent the guy who runs that site an invitation to stop on by the 'pool.
  2. When AT+T opened, there was a mechanical figure, called "Rusty the Robot" sponsored by Old Navy that appeared after every Giants win. He came out of the wall in front of the rightfield bleachers and was roundly booed for doing so. Fans were throwing everything they could get their hands on at this thing, and that's after a Giants win. Management wisely decided to abandon the idea. Now if only they'll replace Lou Seal with the Crazy Crab, SF baseball would be much improved. http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com/sf/history/sf_history_timeline_article.jsp?article=31
  3. Shouldn't this be in the "Childhood Nightmares in Action" thread?
  4. My prediction is that Ron Mahay hurts the Mets more than Mark Teixiera.
  5. The starting pitcher sounds like a character actor from the 1950s. "The part of the soda-jerk will be played by Buddy Carlyle"
  6. I cringe over some of my current posts!
  7. I'd rather have Shannon Stewart.
  8. Whatever happened to Happy Recap?
  9. Plus, unlike the Mets killer June schedule, the Yankees have played 25 straight games against teams with a sub-.500 record. 20 of their next 23, however, are against stiffer competition
  10. Who's got the Tug McGraw Goofy Memorial Slot? 'twas The Prophet, no?
  11. Joe's wikipedia page has already been updated to reflect his most recent gaffe.
  12. But haven't you heard? Baseball is dead. (or so sayeth one of our regular posters). Sounds like a fascinating read. Met broadcster Ralph Kiner has some choice things to say about Branch Rickey, as I am sure you know.
  13. My head hurts from that run-on and my eyes do too and I don't mean metaphorically I mean they actually hurt from trying to interject punctuation into those posts and being able to read them and make sense of all that too
  14. Mebbe the Mets can send them some of Shea's cats. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/22/nyregion/thecity/22cats.html?ex=1342756800&en=2450c47a7eab6d91&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss
  15. ZVON: ]Now--if we dont hold this lead--4ghettaboutIT. Ill say the opposite of WOW. MOM? What's she gotta do with it?
  16. one down, one to go.
  17. Sele in to eat some innings
  18. Ouch-- 5-0.
  19. I think it's funny that ESPN will interrupt another baseball game to bring you a Bonds AB live, but only give you a "ticker" across the bottom of the screen--detailing balls and strikes, but with no video--during the X Games.
  20. Great win. I had this one pencilled in as a loss after seeing the lineups. On the road, against a first-place team that has thier ace (bona fide) on the hill and we run out Newhan, Marlon, Gotay and Castro. This is a steal.
  21. ESPN is a joke. Who's Now? Is that even a question? A list of probable NFL Hall of Famers that includes players who have yet to appear in a game? An article on the lack of Denver Broncos in Canton that says it won't get any easier because "Aikman and Marino will soon be eligible, thereby taking away votes from Terrell Davis" when both of those qbs are already enshrined. And that's just this week- It's the "entertainment tonighting" of sports.
  22. That Game 5 performance was riveting, and I remember it well. While not turned in by a reliever, I think Jack Morris' Game 7 in the 1991 World Series for Minnesota (10 inning shutout) was also huge. Big stage, bigger performance. http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1991/B10270MIN1991.htm
  23. Considering the recent homestand, the nine against Pittsburgh, Florida and the Gnats might be as daunting as the 19 against the contenders.
  24. 1100 pitchers, 966 retired. HoF: Ryan Carlton Sutter Seaver Eckersley Perry Niekro Jenkins
  25. In my early days of CPF lurking, I remember Edgy had a Walter Johnson avatar-- now I know why. Nice story.
