  1. Tell SK we miss her
  2. ]How could the NY tabloids make Yankees look better than the Mets tomorrow? Easy. The MFY lost to a vastly superior squad than the Phillies. After all, the Tiggers went to the WS last year, and the Phils haven't sniffed an October for some time. I mean, it's one thing to lose by 16 to the defending AL champs, but by seven to Philadelphia? Well, that something only the Flushing Nine could do.
  3. First five nominees are relievers...
  4. Astros fire Phil Garner (and GM Tim Purpura). Bench Coach Cecil Cooper assumes managerial duties.
  5. Miller is so much better doing SF Giants games than he is the Sunday night broadcast. He knows the team, players, issues, history... he used to be a vendor at Candlestick... and oh yeah, Blowenweis sucks.
  6. After Ralph led the NL in homers for seven straight years, Branch Rickey cut his salary. Kiner complained, Rickey replied
  7. McCarver also declared the Mets the "base stealingest" team in the bigs.
  8. Thought McCarver missed a golden opportunity in the early going when Kenny Albert asked who his "nicest teammate ever" had been (after such a complement was bestowed on Jeff Conine by Moises Alou). T-Mac named a few guys, but left off that list was his play-by-play partner of 16 years (and the third inning), Ralph Kiner. Good to see/hear him again, nonetheless.
  9. "That was ridiculous. I have never been in anything like that in my life," said Saltalamacchia, who went 4-for-6 with a walk and scored five runs. He came in batting .179 and finished at .262. David Murphy had five of the Rangers' 29 hits, the most by a major league team since Milwaukee had 31 in a 22-2 victory over Toronto on Aug. 28, 1992, according to Elias. Texas' 30 RBIs set a major league record. The Rangers had 57 at-bats, tying the AL mark for a nine-inning game set by Milwaukee in its 1992 rout of Toronto. The Rangers added five points to their team batting average, raising it to .258. They finished with more runs than outs made (27). Baltimore's ERA went from 4.39 to 4.60.
  10. If this is what a 3.75 ERA looks like, I'd sweat too: http://www.withleather.com/post.phtml?pk=1905
  11. Brandon Webb's streak is OVAH. Brewers score in the first, ending his run at 42 IP.
  12. Amazing Stats: Baltimore Bullpen-- 4 IP, 24 ER Even better: A Texas pitcher recorded a save in a game that was decided by 27 runs.
  13. WOW Texas 30 Baltimore 3 Most runs since 1900
  14. Can't wait till joba blows a save
  15. no cheat-- seriously. Was thinking of reys in the middle of names (like mcreyonlds) and thought of fregosi-- from there it was an extrapolation to frey.
  16. Jim Frey
  17. Ronn Reynolds
  18. Kevin McReynolds
  19. He's overpaid and brittle and so is alou. We should release them both (Sorry, i was channelling cleon)
  20. JW Booth bobblehead day? That's just wrong.
  21. Rhode Islander Rocco Baldelli merits some love.
  22. Time crunch-- need to catch a flight and can't find a large enough photo of Endy. Someone pinch-hit for me, please. Thanks, DocTee
  23. NHL Law and Order: Dino Ciccarelli was arested for assaulting Luke Richardson with a hockey stick in the late-80s...not sure if Marty McSorley was for his attack on whoever it was he whacked in the head about a decade later. Todd Bertuzzi effectively ended Steve Moore's career with a blind side hit and was facing serious charges, but I don't know what happened (he played this year, I know).
