  1. Mike Piazza went yard yesterday for Oakland, at Anaheim. That's two on the season.
  2. I've always had a soft spot for the Pirates. Maybe it was the Stargell Stars or the fact that I came of Baseball Age when they won in 1979. If Paulino leaves, they have a decent replacement in second-year man Ryan Doumit, whom many predicted would win ROY when he first came up. Instead of the Cubs, Mark Cuban should buy this team-- it is, after all, his hometown, and I bet he would show a real commitment to building a winner there.
  3. He doubled last night and turned a sweeet 3-6-3 Double Play to get Smoltz out of an early jam.
  4. Just as trades are not in the jurisdiction of the manager, to use WWSB's phrase, nor ar they in the jurisdiction of the players. It's one thing to say " I am sure management will get us the parts we need to win bbbyyy", but to say "I hope management gets us a 2B who can help us win" is bad form.
  5. ]As far as summer camps go its pretty much on par with the rest of them. Your average 8 week camp is anywhere from $6,000 - $10,000. This one tops out at $5,450 for 4 weeks and $8,950 for 8 weeks. Now I know why my parents never sent me to summer camp.
  6. I'm with Yancy. Something I might support at CitiField is what they have at AT&T Park in SF-- in addition to those NY/SF Giant numbers that are retired (and in some cases, like Chrsity Mathewson and John McGraw, these players pre-date uni numbers). All of these are memorialized on baseball-shaped plaques hung from the upper-deck facade. Additionally, in the same place and manner, HOF broadcaster Russ Hodges is remembered, with a name and image of an old-time microphone. The Mets should do that for Murph and Kiner, too, and perhaps others (Joan Payson, Bill Shea) I'll try to find some images in case my description is unclear. Edit: In case??
  7. Yes-- i remember now. Curioser and curioser that decision seems.
  8. FK wrote: ]I'd also be interested in Willie's reasoning for keeping Castro in the game after his PH appearance. Turns out that it didn't matter but it might have hastened Feliciano's exit from the game in a spot where we could have used a 2nd inning from him. How so? Castro PH'd for Feliciano, no? Are you suggesting that he should have hit for himself?
  9. Not coffee, cool-aid--
  10. ]"They" say that you are destined to win 60, lose 60 and it's the other 60 that decide your season. The Mets took one away from the "lose 60" column today. That's a 180 game season-- but we get your point. LGM!!
  11. Irish, what've you been drinking to assert that the Mets could win three games in LA? Are you clueless or just stupid?
  12. Dodgers last hope is reverse ramon.
  13. Six shutouts today in MLB. Who says this is the age of offense?
  14. C'mon Billy--git 'r done
  15. Yes, that was Irish who coined the phrase-- I merely stole it.
  16. Chip Ambres has a bit of that Willie McGee/ET look goin' on.
  17. Myguess is green to first, ambres to rf
  18. Franco coulda done that.
  19. Extras? Ye of little faith!
  20. Now it's up to Ruben Go-Ahead. What happened on the Green play?
  21. By my count you're the third.
  22. ]DocTee Posted: Sun Jul 22, 2007 1:14 am Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now maybe they'll retire Kiner's, too. Was thinking of Marty Noble's crusade to have a more appropriate statue of RK at PNC, as is done for some of the other Pirate greats--seems all they have is a figure of his hands beneath a stairweel in LF.
  23. Now maybe they'll retire Kiner's, too.
