Given the torrid finish by Troy Tolowitzki, I wonder if any of these three win the MVP? I suppose Votto has the best claim, and Gonzalez will probably steal some votes from Tulo (and vice versa).

Both Bob Brenly and Fredi Gonzalez have withdrawn their names from candidacy for the Cubs managerial slot. Eric Wedge and Sandberg have interviewed, and Bob Melvin is slated to do so (as are Don Wakamatsu, Pat Listach and incumbent Mike Quade) according to ESPN. I think there will be over a dozen managerial changes this winter, and it's comforting to not see Bobby V among those apparently on the Cubs RADAR.

Glashow repaired my knee in 1995 and it has not caused me any problems since. If he can fix me, Johan should be no problem!

Why Warthen? Given injuries and the staff with which he works, isn't he doing well? Lots of shutouts from that staff, and the bullpen mismanagement can't be blamed on him.

I don't get the love for Backman, either. There are literally dozens of candidates I'd consider before him. The Jerry Watch thread we had a few months back listed some really good ones (Stearns, Hershiser and Oquendo were my offerings, IIRC).

AFL rosters announced today. Met assignments include pitchers Robert Carson and Josh Stinson (both of Binghamton), C Kai Gronaeur (St. Lucie) and IF Jordanny Valdespina (Bingo). An additional pair of pitchers and an OF to be determined will join pitching coach Ricky Bones on the Mesa Solar Sox.

Valentine lamented how sports television is becoming a venue for controversy, rather than informed analysis. "When I was in uniform with him in Cincinnati (as a coach in 1993) he was known as anything but an enforcer," Valentine told reporters. "But he was known for what he's known for now, as a big mouth."

I predict in the future Francoeur will close the season as hot as he began it. Regardless of how many of us feel about Jeff, you gotta be rooting for this. I root against anything that might incline the Mets to bring Frenchy back next year. -
