  1. The SS, Cecchini?, mentioned something about why he was wearing #2, but Sandy say his comment was stricken from the record so I don't know what it was. In honor of his idol, derek jeter. ugh
  2. Even more bizarre is it appears that Ramirez was late to the party, arriving about a minute into the celebration, after all the piling on had occured. Maybe pulled a leg muscle on the jog from the bullpen?
  3. 1. No-Han 2. Smooth 3. Amazin' 4. Yanks Win Again
  4. San Diego wins the "last franchise standing" without a no-hitter contest. Go to the loser's window and collect your prize, Padres fans!
  5. Seriously, this is a first place team? That lineup isn't any more McGyver'd than ours is. Well, they're a second place team, and that lineup is mashing. Their rookie 1B (Adams) is huge-- looks like a bouncer and runs like one too. I hate this team, even without the LaRussa or Whitey Herzog stink. Always have, always will. The MFY of the NL-- fuck them and their "best ever" fans.
  6. name the Nobel Prizewinner for literature who was also a champion cricketer. V.S. Naipaul.
  7. Lookit what he did to the heart of that lineup: 3-4-5...0-9 with 9K
  8. There's always Juan and Wil Nieves, too. (P and C) And Sol Carter.
  9. I like Monk's attempt to preserve anonymity by covering his face...but the photo behind him undercuts that attempt.
  10. And Oakland scores five in the ninth-- the last four courtesy of a Brandon Inge walkoff slam-- to beat Toronto 7-3. There were MAYBE 3000 people left in the stands when it happened.
  11. Surely not the first time she had balls on her chin.
  12. Man, it's posts like this that keep me coming back...and keep me intimidated enough not to post more often. Very funny. Bravo.
  13. Getting some national press. From AP (via SF Gate): http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2012/04/27/national/a062512D82.DTL&tsp=1
  14. And Leyland started out as a coach on LaRussa's ChiSox staff too. Wish they went back to the Fisk-Kittle era "pullover pajama" unis, though. those are the ones Seaver wore when he got 300. The black ones suck.

I suppose if Bert Blyleven or Robert Eenhorn (or even Hensley Meulens or that fat Orioles pitcher-- Ponson?-- from a few years back) played a half century earlier they'd all be called "Dutch." Thankfully, no more Hymies.
  16. Michael Jackson?
  17. Carlos Beltran ... I already miss him more than I'll ever miss Reyes. This.
  18. If only this season was going to be more like the 1969 vintage, rather than the 1962 vintage... I'll wager that the 2012 Mets win total is closer to that of 1969 than 1962. Maybe not WS champs, but surely not 120 game losers.
  19. Dr. Nina Green, on Royal Pains, has her car wired to follow the Mets. You mean she spent a lot on it, only to have it break down? Or that it plunges off a cliff after driving along smoothly for the first 145 of a 162-mile journey??
  20. I like that the Mets cards reflect the "new" uniform color scheme-- hardly any black visible, save for the Wright "throwback" card.
