  1. i guess the real question from a valuation standpoint is, is there that much more that realmuto brings to the catching game that the metrics aren't even close to adequately capturing, that would outweigh the fact that nimmo and conforto are superior offensive players, and rosario's defense would be difficult to replace. because that's the only avenue whereby trading nimmo, conforto, or rosario for realmuto makes sense.
  2. kelenic pushes me from somewhere in the love it/like it range, down to a kinda don't like it. i believe this move makes us a much better team for this year, and probably the next three or so. i'm worried about the back end, and i think we over paid by giving up part of our future. i think the deal could have been done for less than kelenic. do i think kelenic is the real deal - no. gosh i have no idea about prospects. i just think that a 6th round pick has move value than this. but maybe not. it's so hard to judge the market. i guess, i'm excited about the potential this trade has for this coming year. and nervous that we could instead one day look back on it as a colossal fuckup. or... not. it's certainly better than kaz/zam, right? the biggest potential problem i see with this trade is that by the end of it, instead of seeing our window close, it may slam shut faster than we would want it to. and maybe that's the model going forward - milk your window and then hard rebuild once it closes, with an eye on a fast reset, like all those other teams seem to be doing. we'll see. how well that part of the plan works out may ultimately be the true test by which this particular trade is measured. fuck it. just put me down for mixed feelings. decidedly not neutral. probably kinda don't like it. maybe kinda do like it.
  3. does this at least maybe hopefully mean that the wilpons aren't skinflint cheapasses for the upcoming season? i mean, if they're just gonna throw money away and all... though i've yet to really see actual confirmation on the $20M figure. that's where i'm pegging all of my hopeful energies...
  4. i'm intrigued by the possibility of the WATP that mlb.com just sent out... cano | edwin diaz | mallex smith for andres giminez | justin dunn | dom smith | jay bruce i'm not sure if i'm intrigued enough to pull the trigger on it, but i like that a heck of a lot more than trading noah. OE: based on steamer projections from fangraphs, that package above would play out to about a 6-win increase for the metsies for '19

  6. based on how he was talking to gary and keith, i think he himself didn't feel prepared enough to face major league pitching, at least not consistently. he himself said that his appearances were more of an honorific than something he had actually achieved through successful rehab. and i guess i don't think david would have been on board with making a string of shitty, painful at bats over the course of a few weeks. respect for the game and all that. i think that if david felt he was able to play, he would have played more. and the wilpons would have played him more just to pack the house. i don't think he could have taken another at bat on saturday, let alone taken more at bats in the days leading up to it. it looked to me like his body just wouldn't let him.
  7. i think that, right now, if we put a whole lot of money into our bullpen, we're going to be signing a bunch of guys whose primary job will be to keep 1-run defecits from getting bigger, rather than hanging onto 1-run leads.
  8. it's interesting to see what we do next year. we've got a hell of a rotation, though we've said that before... and we have some good young pieces in the outfield and mid-infield. and a whole lot of dead weight on the roster that needs to be planned around. are we really expecting two of bruce/frazier/cespedes to be riding the pine (or on the DL) all next year?
  9. i am curious if other teams do give away free stuff to the people coming in for anthem singing. even if none other do, though, it seems like such a simple and obvious way to spread goodwill, and at such a minimal cost, too.
  10. despite the fact that i was horrible in this season, (actually, i shat the bed in both my leagues this year), i prefer this format to any others. i actually thought i had a puncher's chance until the all star break came along and crushed my dreams with cold reality. i need to find a way to get unspent money. my team is shit, and all overpaid, and yet i struggle to identify where i should clearly make cuts. also, i believe in these guys. much like the mets, i think we turned it around a bit at the end, giving reasons for hope. but, man. i need to look at my pre-season projections to see how badly it all was. yikes!
  11. [crossout:tiqv5gzr]buster posey[/crossout:tiqv5gzr] nope, not even close...
  12. my one problem with Black Panther is... ok i get it, killmonger is a terrible person, but was he not then the rightful king of wakanda, having defeated t'challa in ritual combat? i guess t'challa didn't fully and irrevocably die, through intervention of others. but doesn't that then circumvent the ritual and the succession rites as well? admittedly, i've only yet been able to watch the movie on the back of the seat in front of me during a recent cross-country flight. but still i have these questions... overall, though, i thought it a terrific movie. i wished killmonger could've been fully redeemed, though his demise was of course the inevitable end of his tragic path. alas, he burned all the flowers (that we know of)
  13. while we await a ruling, i'm gonna go ahead and guess fonzie for #86 3b. call it a hunch.
  14. your list is wrong. all yankee fans are miserable.
  15. man, that sucks. endy mattresses don't ship to the states.
  16. Dicky Gonzalez was the first met older than me. Without big sexy, there is no longer any met older than me. [sadface]
  17. aramis ramirez and bartolo colon. thanks, big sexy!
  18. i like daniel murphy. a lot. supermuch even. i do not want the mets to throw a bunch of money his way. not at all. supermuch no way.
  19. Centerfield wrote: So the way the deadline is going, and I realize there is time left, it seems like the Mets will try to contend in 2019. The good news is at least the best writers seem to finally understand that this is going to mean opening up payroll. yabbut.... do the wilpons share that same understanding?
  20. don't trade noah syndergaard. you wouldn't like µmmL when he's angry.
  21. the more i think about the movie, the more i process it, and the backlash, the more i love what they did. i'm curious and excited about what comes next, provided the whiny fan-babies don't ruin it all. i mean, shit, even if TLJ was a pure shitshow, it's a hell of a lot better than what's going on over in DC-movie land. the third lesson (actually, wait, internet sleuthing has determined that it is not in fact the third lesson. but merely a thing that happened and then she left, presumably before receiving the third lesson. but it's still a thing that happened between luke and rey) is described in the book; pretty sure it's not in the movie. i read it literally just last night. haven't checked to see if its in any deleted scenes anywhere (internet sleuthing confirms it is a "deleted scene"). spoiler alert: some boats head towards the island. luke tells rey that it's raiders coming to attack the caregivers; explains that he allows it to happen, as any true jedi knight would - allow what is, to be, or some such. rey is incensed, angry, and desperate to help. she runs down the mountain, bursts into the village where the boats have already landed. and interrupts a party for the fishermen... fishergivers... carefishers...? fishing party... that just returned. luke catches up to her. and explains. what the resistance needs is not a husk of a legend, and old jedi knight. but a fierce, determined warrior ready and willing to take on the enemy and save the imperiled galaxy. this convinces rey what she already knew - that she would not rely on luke skywalker to save the galaxy, but must do it herself.
  22. Tim Tebow.
  23. wheeler is making $1.9M with one more year of arbitration before he's a free agent going into '20.

Through therapy, you can minimize the frequency and severity of flareups, but I don't think it's ever going to disappear from his book. There is a surgery, but that's probably a six-month recovery and it's not without it's downside. I've had it. A bad flareup about 10 years ago, where I could barely walk. Rest and therapy are the best treatments, and I was basically off my foot for about a month. I get minor flares occasionally but I deal with it. Of course I wasn't trying to play the outfield in a major league uniform, but it is treatable. plantar fasciitis SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS. like, it totally sucks. did i mention - it sucks! but it's treatable and manageable. and if you take care of it soon enough, before you start ripping shit apart, you should be fine long term.
