  1. one bad pitch that inning by julio. three strikeouts. not quite the old julio we all "know and love"
  2. i see no reason to get into a beanball war... was that even a fastball, or was it just a breaking ball that missed badly? edit: never mind. 90 mph fastball. still, i dont think he was going for head there...

  12. to an extent, they are exaclty content providers. thier primary focus should be, and i hope usually is, to win baseball games, and lots of them. they tehy must also be focused on having players that fans will like, and come back for, etc. because even if the best laid plans for baseball world domination fail, you still want the fans to come out to the park, right? and really its a matter of degrees. the really important part is winning pennants. watching widdle davey wright step up to the altar in his pretty white dress and receive first communion is a nice to have. for some, i assume, its nicer than for others. for me, i'd much rather win than see any of the current players in a dress. but i'd still one day like to walk a grown up davey down the aisle. i'm gonna regret these analagies, aren't i?
  13. its "Frappuccino" willie is definitely too hostile towards the media, almost dismissive at times as to their desire to get good info, and to the effect it has on the fans' perceptions of him, and the team.
  14. hmm.. good thing i was perusing the RLF today... i'm not quite sure how i missed bret's response to me up there. honestly, bret, i'm not sure what we were actually arguing about, except perhaps degrees of reactions. the biggest thing would likely be my lack of shame in other met fans who have prioritites other than winning the world series at all costs. met fans are a diverse group. in that diverse group, i'm sure there are many varied reasons and motives behind why we root for a given team, and what we root for that team to do, and how we hope that team accomplishes said goal, and with what business practices, and to what priority we hold each of these factors. the loyalty thing is a minor point, and one that i'm more curious about hte actual effects of han suggesting that important business and player-personnel decisions be made based upon it. i'd love to have the mets win the next 15 pennants. if trading wright for miggy and willis bings that to fruition, i'd still love it, just a little less, because it means the trading away of a player whom i like, whom i look forward to rooting for, and whom i look forward to seeing play for the mets for a very long time. - am i correct in saying that the mets have sorely lacked such a player, particularly a position player, who ultimately pans out, for a very long time? - stupid mixed priorities!
  15. so, i'm curious for all those out there with the ultra-precise schaeffer votes, how y'all come up with such numbers? is it based on some overcomplicated formula (man, i love overcomplicated formulae), or just a seat of the pants kind of thing, evening out the percieved contribution on a day-by-day basis?
  16. i'm not saying that i'd like to see met pitchers throw at the guy each and every time with the intent of hitting him - a) because that's just mean, and i'm far too enlightened for such things, and more importantly because eventually it'd result in the suspension of many a met pitcher - but throwing down around the legs, where he's not wearing any armor, and has to then move said balky knees quickly and awkwardly, would not only reduce his effectiveness at hte plate and give the pitcher back the inside part of the plate, it would also hurt like hell, and give him very much what he deserves. so, i mostly agree with bret. throwing at him is just thuggery (of course i'm exaggertaing my dislike for such a move. on principle, i dislike it. in reality, i love it). throwing terribly near him, now that i like. also the speculation on BBTonite is that he can't get around on the inside ball anymore. so if you miss going after the knees/body, and leave it closer to the plate, its not yet proven to be likely to hurt you this year.

  18. its about women, but i'm guessing that keith just was overreacting to the situation, and thinking he was funny, and being all "guy" about it. its offensive, and neanderthal, and i think he knew it at the time. i'm not sure what i'm trying to say here. maybe it's "boys will be boys" i guess. and i think monk covered the remainder of my would-be points...
  19. nah, could use some more shrillness. the smugness is spot on, tho.
  20. Matsui 2 Reyes 2 Feliciano 2 Glavine 1
  21. Chavez 2 Wright 2 Julio 2 Delgado 1 Floyd 1

  24. if i'm to "blame" anybody, perhaps i "blame" carlos. i know from experience that when you piss off a hammy, or other major leg muscle, that they give you mixed signals. they feel fine, until they don't, and you feel like a tool sitting around doing nothing with a leg that feels perfectly fine. a medical staff (and manager) is really only as good as the patient. an MRI can show something, or it can show nothing. even if an MRI shows something, it may not be the cause of pain, and even if an MRI shows nothing, there may still be a cause for pain. if the patient underreports the level of pain (be it a high tolerance of pain, normalcy creep, wishful thinking, or willful denial of pain), there's little the medical staff and manager can do. so it's probably carlos' fault, tho i'm sure a case could be made for the medical staff and/or willie to pressure carlos into being extra cautious and going on teh DL. in light of last year, carlos should know better, but if his body had been telling him that he's good to go, but really wasn't, whose fault is that? can we just blame his hamstring?
  25. its a minor point... but is he afraid, or just unable, to throw strikes to dave roberts, et al.?
