  1. try this link instead: http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/ and then click on "join a league" under baseball 07 (not PLUS!) then click on "join custom" in the page that opens, and then it'll take you to the page below: http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1/register/joinprivateleague_league_select?.scrumb= wherein you input the league ID # and password.
  2. if you're already getting wins from your starters, the middle relievers are good for improving weak ratios.
  3. unless you're in a holds league. then the 7th/8th inning guy can become more valuable. holds aren't as stable as saves, necessarily, and they don't pile up as much, so those guys are still less valuable than a good closer, but now may be more valuable than a bad closer...
  4. i'm hoping for a tremendous snowstorm overnight, so i can stay home and watch real-time!
  5. its such a big non-story, too. jeez... the fucking papers are really dying for some damned juice. the arod-jeter split was almost as story-less than this, and all we heard of that was "newsflash!!! arod and jeter no longer best of buddies" puh-leez!
  6. sharpie wrote: I had him missing the first turn in the rotation anyway, so this strengthens my hand in the "first-5-starters" contest (I've got to have something after coming in second in the Free Agent Prediction Contest and in the final 4 in the Parody Contest). you didnt do so hotly in the met predictions 2006, either!
  7. jeter makes the ballot over trammel, fernandez, and larkin?! i'd be happier even with arod or ripken!
  8. his odds add up to 1.19 i really hope we can manage to find more than 1.19 pitchers out of that lot, that we can use in the rotation. unless, of course, mr. lennon knows of a trade that we dont, and this is his very clever way of telling us...? those odds should add up to about 3, maybe just under (2.9) to account for some super-duper long shot scenario, but darned close to three, as we've got three slots left to fill. edit. i did the math wrong. i used 2:1 as a ratio, meaning 50% chance. edgy's right in that it means a 1-in-3 chance. using that, the odds add up to 0.95, which is even dumber. we won't get even one whole pitcher out of those odds! woe to us!

  12. ="Gwreck"] when i grow up, i'm gonna be THIS tall!
  13. i wonder how many other players that might work for...
  14. reading the article, it sounds like a big enough deal that if i were a giants fan, i'd be worried.
  15. its funny how we associate free agents with their former teams, yet are much quicker to embrace, i think, players acquired via trade, and draft. and yet, the biggest difference between those acquired via trade or draft, and those acquired via free agency, is that the former had little-to-no choice in the matter, while the latter actively chose to join the team, to the exclusion of all others. and yet somehow, we view them as the mercenaries, the ones who have to earn our love...
  16. i think edgy meant twenty-five days, the closest anyone came to predicting trachsel's landing pad.
  17. agee
  18. woohoo! first six schaeffer points for the periodic table, then the unoficcial win in the free agent prediciton game, and now today's silly nit-pick prize! i am so on a roll. there was no point to my post. i just noticed something and decided to point it out. i was actually hoping he had a start in there, but only so's i could look at what would only have been the worst lineup in the history of ever, or at least something very very close to it.
  19. of course, buddy was never close to the best hitter on his team, and therefore there would never be a situation where a manager would have to evaluate whether or not buddy's particular skills were better suited to the middle of the order, as opposed to the top or the bottom. ] Even then Buddy NEVER batted 3, 4, 5, or 6 in a dozen seasons as a Met. Not once. baseballreference.com shows that indeed bud had batted 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th in his career, and all as a met. granted, he never STARTED a game in that spot, but certainly had some plate appearances as a pinch hitter.
  20. he did have a 4.17 home ERA, tho gave up 12 homers there, as opposed to 8 on the road. i don't hate the signing, as its hard to get worked up over $3M when i can't imagine that he's locked into a rotation spot, and therefore can be viewed at worst as likely to start the season in the rotation barring utter uselessness demonstrated in spring training, and with a short leash once the real season starts and of course if the young'un(s) he displaces pitch well in the minors. this is enough to throw off my rotation prediction of course...
  21. see, if we're looking at "most important" then the interesting analysis would be if you had 9 players with identical SLG/OBP ratios, but differing OPS, where would yo bat the best hitter? or are you asking, "is having a great cleanup hitter more important to a team than having a great leadoff hitter?"
  22. i think the most important question about this thread is "what do you mean by important?" do you mean which spot in the order is it most vital that you fill it with the archetypical hitter (speedy on base guy hitting leadoff, contact hitter in the two, good all-around in three, slugger with good obp in four, slugger with lesser obp in five, and so on and so forth)? or do you mean which spot fdo you put your bestest hitter in, and so on and so forth? because if we're ignoring the archetypes, and are just going by some nebulous quality of bestest, then i'd default to put my bestest guy 4th in the order, then 3,5,2,1,6,7,8,9
