  3. from the times article... "or use devices that allow them to fill their bladders with someone elses drug-free urine." um, yeah. i'd rather be poor and clean, than rich, powerful, and filled with somebody else's urine.

  5. there's a fairly good chance that i'll find myself at baseball games in teh extreme southwest, later in april... once with the d-backs in phoenix playing the rockies, and later that week with the padres paying the d-backs. there's just not much else to do on off days in yuma, arizona.
  6. you don't give ghosts nearly enough credit.
  7. standing in the outfield while the third baseman completes a play is also playing.
  8. if its a home game, i would lean towards pitcher first, then the batting order. if its a road game, then simply the batting order should suffice.
  9. well, the last paragraph there is just a bit over the top...
  10. great. now I want to boo arod. no, actually, i don't. i want to look out my window and see if there are any pigs aflight... nope... none so far... then how can it be that a yankee fan has seen the light and recognized that maybe, just maybe, creating a negative - no, hostile - atmosphere for one of their own players might not lead to his being as productive a yankee as they would want to see? i don't think he'll get many takers. its too much fun to boo mercilessly. never mind that its productive. never mind that it goes against the yankee philosophy that they all talk about - that the ring is the thing, and winning uber alles, and you do whatever it takes to win. no, yankee fans will be largely unable to do whatever it takes to do what little they can to help their team win. they will be unwilling to put aside their dislike of arod - be it for his personality, perceived softness, his slight at jeter from, oh, six years ago, his making more money than jeter, his being more talented than jeter, his simply not being jeter, whatever - and do whatever it takes to create a positive atmosphere wherein arod can flourish, and help to propel the yankees to world series domination. winning isnt important enough to yankee fans. they'd rather be imbeciles. if they were smart enough to recognize that booing arod is counterproductive to winning, they wouldn't be yankee fans. they'd be mets fans. (or silverdsl. silverdsl is an anomaly )
  11. bump, so i can predict before the opening pitch!
  12. tv-head guy makes an appearance, of course. i love the ads. they crack me up. "i didn't know he had a cat"
  13. he wouldn't necessarily hurt you if he were whiled away in a DL slot, so long as he showed some promise of playing (well) this year. if you have enough injuries where his taking up a DL slot is hurting you, then you'd have to make the decision, but by then, you'd likely have a better idea of when and if he'd actually be playing this year. also, if he does come back, you'd likely be able to keep him in that DL slot for a while, depending on any other roster moves you might be making, until you were comfortable that adding him to your active roster would actually help you out.
  14. they're only legal in some states, and in no state are all three legal. except maybe in west virginia, where they'll just look the other way.
  15. yes, 9. sorry. wtf?! the rankings of the incorrect guesses would be a fun thing to add to the game.
  16. i cheated. 6 and 8... are you f'n kidding me?

  19. well, he was 27, so i doubt he's a top prospect, and might just be a AAAA type guy. but yeah, its still a bit lopsided a deal, right? OE: never mind even that. the kid won minor league player of the year, and had a 0.780 OPS, career mnl OPS of 0.723! granted, only one bowie regular had a higher OPS - 29 year old noah hall had a 0.816. and there were no real great shakes in their AAA affiliate either. so, maybe they got fair enough value, and have a fairly barren minor league system
  20. mike stanton is poised to pass john franco for 2nd place in games pitched, needing only 11 for the task. stanton 1109 franco 1120 mlb.com's milestone tracker projects this to occur on 28 april against the pirates. get your tickets now!
  21. before anybody else gets a chance to... are you saying: A). "i never thought of griffey as a good guy" . "i forgot about griffey. yes, i would consider him a 'good' guy"
  22. iramets wrote: Good= White, and not hideous or an ex-Yankee. ah, but is it a causal relationship, or a coincidental relationship? given the small sample size, i'd lean towards the latter. sosa and griffey have an outside chance apiece of reaching 600 homers this year. while both are of a darker complexion than tommy glavine, i would consider griffey for my "provisional list of reputed good guys" while leaving sosa off.
  23. that's ridiculous. they don't wash the lettuce in taco bell
  24. cleonjones11 wrote: I'm keeping a list of how many times Jose Valentin gets picked off base, caught stealing, or nailed trying to stretch. the over/under is 25 i'll take the under. last year, he was caught stealing only twice. unless he's getting picked off or nailed trying to stretch once per five times he gets on base, i think its an easy bet.
