  6. thats right... i forgot where i had gotten bedard... thanks!
  7. also, wagner has allowed 41 hits total. only 8 were doubles or triples, and 5 were home runs. the average mlb pitching staff allows a double or triple every 4th hit that isnt a home run. for his career, billy gives up doubles and triples once per 5.4 hits that aren't home runs, and while this season its up to once every 4.5 hits, its still less frequent than the typical pitcher. no doubles is a less good option when billy wagner is your pitcher than with a typical pitcher. of total hits including home runs, the numbers are as follows: billy this year: 47 / 8 = double or triple per 5.875 hits (5 homers) billy's career: 515 / 82 = double or triple per 6.28 hits (71 homers) mlb average pitching staff this year: 1228 / 277 = double or triple per 4.43 hits (134 homers)
  8. yes i do like guard the lines better. i'm a believer in what al leiter typically would say, i believe. everything in front of the outfielder is his. if it goes over his head, its on the pitcher. in a big game, i'm more worried about teh dinks killing us that the rockets.
  9. bringing billy in for the 8th was a brilliant move. leaving him in for the ninth was expected, and required no brains whatsoever. however, bringing in aaron heilman might've been brighter, given billy's previously stated tired arm, his recent struggles, and the 8th. warming heilman up at the very least would've been perhaps the smartest thing, so that you could bring him in once it was clear that billy wasn't going to get through cleanly. actually, i think heilman does a far better job of holding runners, right? regardless, we needed a fresh arm, not a "grunt grunt he's my closer so i can turn off my brain and let him go out there and whatever hte result i cannot be questioned about it later cos its the ninth and hes my closer, and every other piece of information is immaterial to that fact that it is the ninth inning and no matter what that's what im paying him for so he's gonna fucking pitch it even if his arm is falling half off his body and he cant get a single fucking guy out." heilman should've been ready to come in, and he certainly should've been in there at the very least once the game is tied. because at that point, billy had already shown the he was done for the day. the 8th was where we needed billy yesterday. the ninth could've sufficed with heilman, especially when the other option was a spent, cooled down and ineffective billy.
  10. crap... i gotta start voting again...
  11. oh good, i'm not the only guy. i was literally yelling at my radio yesterday to move the fucking outfielders in. i don't usually yell at my radio. i hate the fucking prevent defense in baseball.
  12. bringing in burrell would be bad not because he's killed us in the past, but rather that he's just not that good against everybody else.
  13. everytime i start to panic, i put on my footie pajamas in blue and orange, and it all feels better.
  14. on the 23rd, the phils' magic number was 32. the braves was 30. since the thread only deals with the magic number to win the division, the magic number to eliminate the 3rd place team was omitted. so the next day, the mets won, the phillies lost (30) and the braves won (29). the braves and phillies are tied at 6 games behind us, but philly has one fewer losses than the braves, and are therefore ahead by a percentage points and are also one game farther from elimination.
  15. ben johnson?
  16. aside from the basic outline of the jason bourne character, there's nothing else in the movies thats remotely like the books. i like that. both stand on their own. i think i like the movies better, as the characters and such are more believeable in their words, actions and reactions. ludlum never was good with people, imo.
  17. and a new john maine should have found its way into an inbox near you, courtesy of tommyzeeatsomeemailaddressdotnet
  18. tommy... has sent you a crappy john maine that will be updated and improved.
  19. its up there with range factor...
  20. Alou 3.0 Wright 2.1 Beltran 1.4 Castillo 1.3 Delgado 1.1 Sosa 1.1
  21. i've got a better, updated john maine to send off later...
  22. honestly, i don't see why you can't do the magic number from the beginning of the season. when you're up, its fun to know how much. when you're down its helpful to know how much. and if you can jinx it at 40, you can jinx it at 10.
  23. i was looking at this yesterday, and the best i could find is that, depending on what methodology you use, you'll get either that ozzie was better, or trammel was better. iirc what i found correctly, trammel had better win shares, but ozzie does better in total player rating as well as wins above replacement. the difference, clearly is in how much value you assign to defense....
