  1. seriously, using kaz and shinjo as examples of why the mets shouldn't go get more japanese players is upside down thinking to me. we need more tsuyoshi shinjos in baseball. the man was amazing in every sense. and yeah, kaz is more of an example how the mets fuck up everything they touch sometimes, moreso than that japanese ballplayers are a bad idea.
  2. I'll throw out the name of... carlos beltran. though i do like the idea of fonzie.
  3. all of them won manager of the year(?)
  4. Oh. Chris's Russo doesn't like the Carlos Mendoza hiring. Well. That settles it. [bIGPURPLE]I love it![/bIGPURPLE] I mean, if that blithering idiot is against him, how bad can he be?
  5. How far does your rationality extend? ... how long would you allow him to emerge from game after game without a W before you'd throw your hand up and cry "I don't care what makes sense, or follows reason, or is logical. The guy needs to be out of the rotation! He's killing us!!" Or are you so wedded to rationality that you'd allow this to go on indefinitely before you'd reach that conclusion? i mean, i'm not an idiot, so... yeah... i don't think i'd ever reach that conclusion.
  6. i'd approach with caution, but not a hard no. we could use more offense in the outfield, since we really only have one full time OFer in nimmo, and a bunch of middle infielders who we think can handle the job. and a pair of big question marks that are really, really hard to rely on in marte and stewart. piece it all together, and maybe, just maybe, we don't need a cody bellinger...? or if you put it that way, maybe we absolutely do. that being said, i'd rather we focus on pitching. and if cody distracts from that objective, then i want no part in him. ugh. trade pete, sign cody. not a bad plan overall actually. i just don't like it. i want pete, no matter what the melting ice caps have to say about it. i'm allowed to be an irrational fanboi.
  7. no, i think he's very smart. at least in terms of sports entertainment. i think it's hard to tell exactly how intelligent he is about baseball, mind you, because he espouses so much nonsense that it's hard to pick through it all. it's just that he's truly unlistenable.
  8. the mlb network radio station is my go-to for background noise whenever i'm driving alone. unless he's on. then i can't change the channel quick enough.
  9. the mets had the fewest caught stealings in the majors this year, at 15. the giants, who were caught 16 times, had only 57 stolen bases, less than half the mets' 118 steals. not bad, mets!
  10. i'm hoping to build on my yahoo championship and pull some of that magic (or just plain dumb luck) into revitalizing my awful otto pitching staff.
  11. your team is in the middle of a rally. looking to pile on the runs. last guy ended up on third somehow. there's a wild pitch. this run won't necessarily be the one to win the game, because there's more game to be played. heck, there's more rally to run in this inning. does he have the green light to score here, or do you hold him so as not to kill the rally with empty bases.

  13. tommy nido's eye thing was awfully convenient, iirc.

Of course Eppler could counter with, 'Have YOU noticed that they're doing quite nicely after NOT resigning Freddie?' bah. don't ruin my fun with your inconvenient facts.

Did you notice that Alonso just hired Scott Boras, which will make things more difficult?" and that was that. I added one thing I think might be key. well, yes. it was implied, but i should have stated it explicitly.
  16. =roger_that post_id=138969 time=1696595738 user_id=128] Maybe re-hire Randolph, with Mattingly as GM?

  18. i thought for SURE i would **** it up. it's rather unlike me not to. if only i could've mounted a similar surge in ottoneu...
  19. damn. maybe shoulda signed him already then.
  20. i don't think i want to trade any of our prospects for hitters. yeah, yeah, our bats are bad, and we need a high-obp guy. but i don't want to pay the prospect freight on that.
  21. anything other than option 1 should lead to a fan revolt. unless maybe we could trade him for miguel cabrera, dontrelle willis, and a time machine.
  22. i don't think he was necessarily the problem, but i suspect that he might've been at least part of it. plus, his former teams have a tendency to win immediately/shortly thereafter, so...
  23. don't worry. i can squander it all. i have the ability to do it!
  24. well... what if everyone else wanted to blame themselves, and pete goes around hogging it all?! what a jerk!
  25. i do think that part of pete's problem is that he tries to do too much, too often. and that anecdote encapsulates it well enough. he's gotta let other people carry their weight too, and sometimes just get on base anywhichway, instead of flailing at sliders down and away hoping to just this one time actually make contact with it and smack it over the fence. (and i say this with as much love for pete alonso as a man could possibly have towards a baseball player he's never met and whose name is not david wright)
